Clans?

I know it's not good to bring back these old threads, but otherwise I really shouldn't have noticed it. What I point about it is that some people say that Spanish speakers tend to start writing in Spanish, not letting the rest of the forum members to understand what they're saying, like forming a 'clan'.

Is this really happening? I ask this because I'm a Spanish speaker but generally I hadn't seen more than three or four lines of Spanish every now and then in the forums... most of the time Spanish speakers communicate amongst themselves (ourselves) in English so everyone can participate. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe the times that we've written in Spanish were enough to bother someone...

I remember when Helm and the gang used to write in Greek a lot. I really didn't understand a single word of it and really didn't like how it felt. So if someone feels Spanish speakers are making him/her feel like this, my apologies in advance, and please tell us so we can come to and agreement.

Well... I don't know if it's the opinion of all Spanish speakers around here (just hope it is). It is my opinion, at least.

Holy COW that's an old thread! I think that Farl's comment about "clans" was based on the fact that- at the time- there were a whole bunch of "Is there anyone here from (insert country/continent/geographical location here)? We should form a club!" type threads, and to be honest they were getting annoying. This thread seemed to be another such.

Yes, this is an international community, so we get snippets of all sorts of languages and alphabets. Some people were having a conversation in Cantonese (I think) a while back, and my computer couldn't even display the symbols for it. It's just natural for people to slip into their native languages. It's not done to exclude people, its not done with malicious intent, so it doesn't become a problem.

If people were writing in, for example, Urdu (random language that I STRONGLY doubt anyone here speaks) so that they could say things about other people without the people knowing, then we'd have a problem. But that doesn't happen. It just seems to me to be people sharing a language. Woo.

I remember writing something aiming to the oposite direction "In AGS we do not make clans", so, I wrote it just in case it was Dark Arcangel's intention because I really like AGS in the way it is now. After the way the thread went I think he was just looking for some AGS buddies to PM in his mother tongue (sp?) in case of problems.

Maybe it's a good moment to ask CJ to include the "MOTHER TONGUE" in one of the forms to fill in at entering at AGS, so any newbie could see in a glance who to PM in case of doubt?

As for the Spanish... I don't see we use it so many, at least monolingual posts in Spanish. I've seen some bilinguals made by newbies, but with an apology because their translation to English was, in their opinion, not so good. In the case of the Peninsula, it may be related with the fact that English is misstreated in our educative system, dunno about Iberoamerica, though...

Randomly enough, I happen to speak urdu. Anyone else who speaks urdu? We could form a clan and insult people without them knowing

If I did find someone here that spoke urdu, it would be such a novelty that I would maybe lapse into a few words of it. Not with any malicious intent. I don't really mind noobs posting at the beginning in their own languages. Some kind soul usually translates it, and the person stops posting in that language soon enough. If I am desperate enough to want to know what they mean, I usually just get a rought translation from google

In fact it was me who brought back the topic... I didn't mean to offend anybody, nor , of course, to form a Spanish "clan" (which, I agree, wouldn't be a good idea at all).

BTW, I don't think we Spanish speakers write monolingual Spanish posts so often, as it has been stated before... anyways, and again, I apologise if anyone felt, someway, insulted by that post. $:-\$

I don't think that any of the stalements told here has been offensive (Though the mental image of toguing my mother has been really disturbing), don't care Jbeta...

And yeah... even told that Spanish monolingual posts are "just a few" I don't remember at least one, in this very moment...

Haha, now that *would* be unfortunate.

Anyway, only English is allowed on these forums. The reasons are explained in the Forum FAQ -- but suffice it to say, if everyone started speaking their own language, nobody would know what was going on!

We should all settle on a language NOBODY speaks so everyone's on the same level like "Esperanto" or "Elvish"

No no... I told that the "mother tongue" thingie should be a good idea just for newbies PMing older AGSers with his own languajes...

I apologize if my reasons were not understood as for the original question, only it wanted to know place, basic information of the persons who were speaking or knowing Spanish, but never I spend for my mind creating a CLAN.
