I want to make a game called Clarisse the Snoop. It goes like this...

Clarisse the Snoop (Clarisse Richards) applies to work at Picture Perfect Times, a newspaper publisher that take pride in their faultless pictures in the news since the 1980’s. Clarisse grew up respecting their works and swore to be one of the greats. In 2006 at the night of April 14th, Clarisse receives a letter that says although her resume is solid; they still have doubts, so they put her to the test. There was a disturbance at a local zoo and if she got a picture of the scene, she would be in. She grabs her late father’s camera and heads to the zoo. She heads to the entrance but is immediately stopped by the cops and is told to move along. She instead sneaks in the zoo and finds a man dragging the body of a dead lion. She follows him. She can hear chanting at a distance and see the body of the lion on a pentagram symbol on the zoo’s walkway. She takes a picture of the site but the flash startles the unseen man who yells that the spell isn’t complete. The cops arrive to the scene to see Clarisse and tell her put her hands in the air. Just then, an evil aura surrounds the lion and makes him undead. The cops shoot the lion several times but the lion lunges for the cops and proceeds to rip into them. During the hassle, the unseen man runs away in terror. The lion then focuses on Clarisse who makes the decision to run, as well. She loses the lion by quickly ducking into the security office. She thinks that despite the fact that she got the picture of the site, she needed more evidence to make the story complete, plus if the lion escapes the zoo, it could be disastrous. She plans to look around the zoo to find the culprit who brought it back from the dead and, if possible, find a way to destroy the lion.

Yeah, I know it needs work, but I've been very bored lately. I love to draw and design but I suck at coding at all accounts. I'm going to try to play with AGS but I don't know how far I'll go...Wish me luck.

Good luck with your game :)

I noted that a vixen is going to play the main character in a game that takes place in a zoo...? There should be some explanation why some animals end up in zoos while others dress like humans and can talk.

My sister commented on that, too. I might just give up the furry character, which is sad because I think furry characters are more fun to do...

As far as coding goes ags is as easy as it comes!

It might look scary at first but trust me when I say it's very easy to learn. Have you looked at these amazing tutorials?

They're all fantastic and cover just about anything you could want to know. Don't give up, and you can always ask just about anyone here if you get stuck!

Hero...the best way to learn AGS is to take it one step at a time, and start at the very beginning!  There are tons of threads in the Beginners Technical Questions forum that are geared towards the very start.  Another way to approach it is, once you have a nice foundation of the very basics (like loading a BG, your first interactions) - you can search (at the top, next to Home | Help | ....) for stuff that you're specifically struggling with, or a specific topic you're interested in learning more about.

It's pretty easy, and if you're good at art like you say, that's the HARD part covered.  Dig in and start coding!

Funny, art to me is challenging but fun. I'm an amateur, but I do good work.
However, my logic side is lacking, I've always had trouble with any sort of code, but I will try and will learn.

Good luck with your game!
Sounds a shame that you are thinking of give up your figure, maybe it can be so that the animals that can talk lives as human beings, while those who can not live like animals?
Like the land of Narnia.
Best way to learn AGS (atlest for me) is to make a small game first, then your dream game.

Going well so far on the sprites. She is still going to be a fox, but I think humans and anthros can live together, but the furs are the lower demographic. I plan to say that the Zoo was built primarily for the humans entertainment, while a few anthros would find this act inhumane.

Bullet dodged.

Scavenger

Those sprites are looking pretty okay.

I would avoid doing something like this unless you're going to go the whole hog with it (ala Cats Don't Dance). If the subjugation isn't a main theme, ignore the difference between the two. Just don't mention it. This girl is just as much a girl as any other human girl, but is presented in a different manner to the player. The difference between anthropomorphic animals and animals is as much of a difference between man and ape. We put apes in zoos. Sure, some humans might think that putting animals in zoos is inhumane. They're all people, at the end of the day.

Unless you can make it an interesting plot point, however. It might be if Picture Perfect Times was a wholly "human" company, and the reason she has to prove herself is because she is different. She could have no end of obstacles because of her background. I'd still avoid using words like "anthro" to describe her. "Your people", "her kind", and other such euphanisms would make it vague on what she's actually classed as. You'd still have to be careful not to be too ham fisted with it. I've read a lot of things along these lines and it rarely, if ever, works. You gotta be subtle. Gentle.

I can't wait to see this as an adventure game, though. :) The main character looks interesting and well executed, so I'm looking forward to seeing all the other art.

And you know you are right, but I got comments away from AGS that tell me that in stories you shouldn't use furries unless you have a very good reason. I did because I would have more fun doing it. If I have to make a reason for it, it looks not well thought out. I do like the idea of humans and anthros being together but, really, that plot point was wedged in because people demand an explanation of "Why furries?"

I don't know, I'm still working on the story and the art so, anything can happen.

SpacePirateCaine

In regards to using "furries" in your game - it's your game, so do whatever you want with it, just be aware of the fact that there is a large population out there that aren't going to play your game and/or will openly berate it because they don't like the "furry" concept due to a lot of negative stereotyping. As Scavenger said, if you want it to be more accepted, just don't be ham-fisted about it. Disney makes movies with anthropomorphized animals and objects all the time and it's not really fought against because that's just what they do.

Make a decision about the world that your game encompasses, set ground rules and stick to them. At the end of the day, though, you should be making the game that you want to make - not the game that you expect other people to want you to make (assuming that you're making it not specifically for profit).
Check out MonstroCity! | Level 0 NPCs on YouTube! | Life's far too short to be pessimistic.

Tabata

I'm with Caine about this.

.... and if and whenever you decide, that you want to explain using animals inside and outside the zoo the same time, but have no idea  - just ask for some in the forum.

I'm sure, there are a lot of ideas in the minds of those creative people around here. And most of them like to be of help.

So please don't worry about it and have fun while making your game the way you want it.   ;)
Good luck with your project!

No, SpacePirate, I'm doing this for fun, there aren't a lot of horror games here, and I want to make one.

But yeah, that's the right idea...Be subtle... Be subtle.... No one asked why Robin Hood was a fox back then...

But Robin Hood had no humans in the story, the animals were the human-characters.  I think no one asked because it had been done like that many times in story books, it was cute, and it didn't introduce a moral dilemma about whether or not humans and human-like-animals, PLUS animals could exist in a world.  If Robin Hood had caged up their own stupid cousins in a zoo and threw peanuts at them to kill time, it might have raised a few eyebrows.

Also...if we're basically critiquing this story/artwork for a supposed game, doesn't this belong in the Critics Lounge?

Bah, I don't know. What do you think I should do?

Let's ask my good friend Duckman...

He says "Follow your heart."
