DG gave me the idea to start this thread ^_- I think the sex topic is getting a little too nice, we need to fire people up again! Yes, controversy, arguments, hate! My plans for worldwide destruction are coming int- ... I mean, I think this would be a very stimulating topic that may lead to greater cooporation and understanding in the world.

Where do you stand on the topic of drugs? Before I go on, let me say to all you nitpickers that I'm talking about THOSE drugs... you know. Not caffiene, not medicinal drugs, not emotional drugs... those BAD drugs.

With that, my stance is pretty obvious. I have 0 tolerance for them. I hate them. I don't think any stupid drug should be legal, and teenagers are often idiots. Who gave teenagers permission to do anything, anyway?

All you pot smokers out there? This means you, too. It's bad, and it makes you stupid and dead. It pisses all the rest of us who have to deal with you off, too.

...and yes, I think alcohol is okay. Alcohol in reasonable doses is fine, and is used by lumberjacks and big breasted women. Pot is for hippies. Damn those hippies! I hate them so!

We had this one recently, I thinks... but for what it be worth -

Prohibition does not work. People of certain mindsets  are going to take drugs wether they are legal or not, for a whole variety of reasons. Making drugs legal, and controling them carefully makes the situation safer. If alchohol was illeagal, people would drink bathtub gin, and maybe go blind and die. Which would be bad.

As for "dope makes you stupid and die" - yes, and alcho-mo-hol makes you a sparkling barrel of wits, and makes your liver super-strong.

I think it's the same with drugs as with cigarrettes and alcohol for teens. I started somking in 7th grade, not because it's cool, but because I haven't tried that. I however quit after 1½ year beacuse it took all my money...  To take teens away from harm would be to put them in a padded cell. They would probably sniff their underwear then

Nacho

In aperfect world drugs, alcohol and cigarrettes should be legal... and  nobody should used them...

But as this is no possible I say "make the "soft" drugs legal and be hard with the others"(I mean burning the plantations in Colombia and Afganistan and all that...)

Why legal?

-Because it would lose its "clandestinity" feeling (Which may be appealing for somebody)
-It would be healthier (yes, healthier...)
-Mob won't earn money.
-Govt. would earn money by taxes.
-Even with taxes, the overall price should be smaller than the nowadays price (So people who REALLY need it wouldn't waste their money.)
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

Starting threads for the sake of being controversial, are we?

No offense, but that first post seemed to be just crammed with arbitrary controversial statements..."teenagers are often idiots, etc"..."I hate hippies, etc"....

People only respond to such things in order to defend an already taken stance, not because they enjoy digging deeper into the subject or because they look forward to reaching new insights.
As much as I love to debate, it would be funnier if you came up with something more original and interesting.

Layabout

When there is a demand for a product, there will always be a supply. They can't police it properly now. For every plantation that is destroyed, there will always be more.

That said. I have no problem with pot. I don't use it, but I know people who do. I just avoid them when they do.

Most of the drugs sold aren't by mobs. They are sold by 20-30 year olds who need extra cash. The same way a girl would be a stripper, but not legal.

Kinoko,  I think if you're gonna start a topic like this, and then fill your first post with a buch of dirogitory statements you should at least back up some of the trash your talking with some kind of proven fact  or at least some decent statisitcs.

Not only did you NOT come up with anything really constructive,  it seems you've done no resarch at all.

Since I am the benevolent Gestapo, I'll give you a chance to edit this and get your debate on track.  If you just want to spit close-minded hate twards one group of people "cuz hippi-drugiez  are teh sux0rz"  I'll lock this up tight  and reccomend some straight-edge websites you could post on.

I don't touch the drugs.

However, I think it's a person's choice.

I agree that a lot of teenages do it because it's taboo.  It's not something they're supposed to do, so it becomes something they want to do.

I was a teenager once, a long time ago, but I remember the desire.  I never gave in to the hard stuff, but I did toke up on the happy plant a lot.

At least ... I think I did ... I can't remember.

I've mostly refrained from any and all drugs for personal reasons.  I know countless people who smoke pot, I know several people who recovered from heroine, however I know way too many people who smoke cigarettes. And will die one day due to its effects in combination with their genetic weaknesses.

I began drinking perhaps more than moderately after I turned 21, whereas I had gotten drunk perhaps twice before during a complete dry spell throughout highschool.

My stance is that children should be informed of drugs when they are absurdly young, say 5th grade, and shown the results of drugs. I once had to simulate smoking a cigarette with a baloon.  I saw a film of black form inside the baloon and I decided that smoking was unhealthy.  I never touched a cigarette until earlier this month, and I have no desire to smoke another.

Until some scientists actually prove smoking pot dangerous, I will make little judgement against my friends who smoke on a regular basis - as the drug does tend to relax people from their stress.  The one time someone asked me "Do you feel anything?" and I actually did, I told him "I'm becoming really aware of my back."

If it isn't food, I will be really reserved from putting it into my body.

I dont touch drugs. An accidental overdose of a presciption drug (ritilin, which is virtually speed) gave my dad brain damage. He cant work anymore. I've seen brilliant people go crazy from a bad acid trip. damn people...it aint worth it

I think there is little discussion here. "BAD" drugs, as you called them, are bad. There can be no approving of them.

Me, my poision is booze. Not to say that I am an alcoholic, or drink casually, but I do find the lure of the light-headed feeling alcohol causes to be find to resist. However, ever since I had begun driving I had only few chances to drink properly.
Anything else, I don't touch. Surrounded by people (in schoo) of whom about 95% tried to smoke and 70% still do, I am very proud of the fact that I have never even tried a cigarette. At the moment, I have no intention of doing so, but I must admit that I am very curious. So, naturally I didn't try anything further down the line either.
Pot? I am not really against it, but against the daily usage of it. I have several good friends, who have in the last years become addicted to marijuana. I know all the arguments that pot causes no physical dependance, etc. etc., but for fuck's sake, I know what I see. They cannot through a couple of days without smoking some. At first, I had no problem of this. Hell, I even came sometimes, sober, to laugh my ass off from their jokes. But as time flew by, I felt worse about it. There is not a gap between this group of pot users and the rest of our company which will not easily disappear, if at all. They haven't really changed (they are still fun to be with). But it still feels that way. Drugs caused several of our friends to become somewhat alienated from me and the rest of my friends who do not smoke pot (regulary). I just hope that they will not fall to some heavier drug.

After being a horrible puritan in highschool, I've only just started to relax about other people doing drugs.  I don't do them myself, however- I can't even drink.  One jello shooter, which has about a mililitre of vodka in it, gets me drunk enough to start doing pretend newscasts as "Olga Hoordenfloorden" from "Grade Three News" about my friends "making the smoochy face under the monkey bars."  What does this mean? I don't know.  But my friend has it on video, and I wasn't quite drunk enough to forget it, so it must be true.

Other people, however, can do quite a bit without coming to any harm.  They don't lose control, but just become happy and relaxed.  More power to them.  As long as they can give it up, do what makes you feel good.

Well, being one who does the occational "bad drugs" I dont see an issue with it. I agree with it being very bad for your health, however so is drinking, smoking, stress and having children. But my question is why do you hate it, why hate us?

Ok so you have admitted that you hate it. However its not like we're causing any effect on you. I remember somebody telling me that its like mutilation to my body. I pointed out the numerous piercings that she had. She said that it was her decision, well drugs are ours.

Children shouldnt do drugs. I agree with that 100%. But I like to call it a hereditary thing. My parents did it. They admit it to me. But hey, I'm completely fine with rotting my brian.

As for your opinion on drugs and on me for that matter is fine. I just wanna say I dont discriminate you any, so why discriminate me?

"Drugs are bad, m'kay?"

The only drug I approve of is pot, also called weed.  Smoke all the weed you want, or all you can afford.  Go out, smoke weed, get behind the wheel of your car, go to work, go skydiving...whatever.  Just don't offer me any, and please put the joint away when I come in.

Lately my views on this issue have started to change. My old views would probably go along the line, that everyone should smoke (weed) once in their life. Alchohol and weed are about equal in harm to body.

However, when you see friends who begin to get addicted to alchohol or weed, your ideas start to change.

I would now argue, that if you want to smoke or drink, than do so. But I won't tell any of my friends to get into it. Because you never know what a person can get addicted to. I am a person who knows his limits, and can partake in a night of drinking or smoking. But I never drink excessively (I've never lost my memery). If I smoke it's a very rare occasion (now), and I try not to smoke the day after. I introduced my best friend to pot, and he smokes every single day. When we met up after a college break (since he goes to a different uni), he told me "You have to try smoking everyday for a semester." This kid is a smart guy...but it's harder to see anymore.

If you are able to control your habits, than I say do what you want. Don't judge people who smoke occasionally. It's the people who drink/smoke everynight that I'm worried about. But in the end, it's your own life. I don't suggest you do either. And I think drinking is just as bad, and I have another best friend who's gone through that route.

Just a fun fact: You know what most college kids are addicted to (something I'm incredibly addicted to)?

Caffiene.

When I was in high school I belonged to a more or less big group of friends. I wasn't best friend of everyone but I put up with most of them quite well. Sometimes I saw some of my pals smoking marijuana but I didn't care too much, I knew one of my mates was the one who brought and sold the 'porros' (that's the way we call the marijuana cigarette) in high school. He never offered me one of those, I guess he realized I wasn't interested. As time passed we noticed many friends had already gotten that manner. I remember specifically a classmate that I guess he had some self esteem problem like he felt the class didn't accept him, or he felt ignored, something like that. I can't tell exactly. The truth is that for some time my closest friends and I noticed he acted weirder than usual, agressively, didn't talk too much, etc. We knew he was one of those who smoked pot, but we could still put up with the rest of them, not too much trouble.

The year next to the one I left that high school I received the news that our classmate had OD'ed and was in a hospital. He didn't die, and I haven't had news about him since then, I don't know if he could recover completely from that. I don't know if it was our other classmate the one who sold him the drugs or he got them somewhere else. It was sad to know that, it made me think that sometimes teens do really stupid things to draw attention and they end up doing it... in the worst way.

That's what happens many times, teens have that rebel instinct, want to take over the world and they tend to believe they're invincible (I have had those kind of megalomaniac feelings once or twice ;) ), generally they find out about they mistake in time. I know there's people that smoke pot and never have problems with it, they use it every once in a while for relaxing, something like that. There's nothing wrong in doing that, but no matter how warned he is a guy can end up being an addict in little time. That doesn't only happen with illegal drugs, cigarettes and alcohol have the same effect. I don't think they must be banned at all, it's just important that everyone know what he/she is doing, I mean really knowing it. Being conscious of the effect it will have. The teenager's mind, open to new experiences, can easily end up rotten uselessly because of that, that's how many people are spoiled...

I don't know where my friend (the one who sold) took the pot from but I don't think he planted it in his backyard. It's pretty clear that he bought it to someone who had more, and then this one bought it to another one, and following that chain you always end up in those big mafias that are always named. They exist, they are a real problem, they are really sending a lot of people straight into hell just for money. Maybe legalizing marijuana would solve this problem a bit, maybe marijuana is not that different from alcohol or tobacco if you think about it... But then again you have cocaine, heroine, and another bunch of much stronger, much more addictive, much more dangerous drugs. I think legalizing everything is a very bad move. How can you be sure you're not creating a bigger problem when trying to avoid the drug smugglers?

What happens to teens is real, many start smoking or taking drugs just to be cool, some others do it because they feel their life is awful and they need something to make it better for a while. Either way they can end up the same, so if you take drugs, please don't be such an idiot as to kill yourself, alright? Remember when you buy drugs you're giving money to some disgusting smuggler which is probably exploiting many people, except of course you're planting it in your backyard, which can also happen.

Alright this post is getting too long and probably full of redundancy because I'm falling asleep so see you later...

I think Haddas has touched on a MUCH more important issue than drugs here -

UNDERWEAR SNIFFING: Harmless fun or dangerous social menace? You decide!

well, in the long run, sigarettes are more hassardous to your lungs than pot.

so, rather pot than sigarettes.

alcohol is okay too.

What I've learnt is you wont find anything by taking drugs, you'll never get that ultimate hit once you're addicted, and there's no real reason to keep doing it, except to stop you feeling like doing it. Then your tollerance goes up and you need more. It cost too much money, and even more when your tollerance goes up.

I can also argue a lot about prescbribed drugs and the ignorant doctors that prescribe them but I don't feel like getting into that again.

If you don't have an addictive personality you are much safer, eg. if you smoke, it's probably best not to get mixed up in any other drugs.

I've tried to become an alcoholic but I have never succeeded, which I'm glad about.

I've smoked for longer than some people on these forums have been alive which is scarey, I'm still fairly fit but cancer & heart disease is the real issue.

All I can say is just be careful if you are going to experiment with them, they can make you feel better than most experiences that you will have, but that's only the beginning, eventually you'll wish you chose to go to the gym or something else instead, and that's Guaranteed.
