How to deal with a guy who wants to beat you up

Call the authorities or take the beating.  That's about it, I think.

Well, it doesn't, but somebody else decided to pay him out of his own pocket, just to shut him up.

Other than that, he's no longer welcome in the cafe where this took place, and I informed the police. I suppose that's the end of the story, then.
