Hi all,

Just doing a wee bit of research... maybe you can help :) could you please state:

Favourite Final Fantasy Game
Favourite character of that game
Favourite location
Most memorable event

And any other information you'd like to volunteer about it  of course :) such as what you thought of the battle system, etc

Thanks. Also please don't respond if you're just going to tell me you don't like final fantasy games, or don't play them, or that you play better RPGs... please keep it constructive!

Some short answers...

Favourite FF game
Final Fantasy 7. This was the first ever RPG I've played and its story is the best I've seen in any other game. Just my opinion of course.

Favourite character
Sephiroth. You know, that guy who had spent a lot of time in my avatar. Not anymore though, I wonder what he's up to nowadays.

Favourite location
Hard to choose but I'd say it's either Cosmo Canyon or the slums in Midgar. Both have an amazing atmosphere.

Most memorable event
Please, do NOT read this if you haven't played the game, since it contains a HUGE SPOILER

Spoiler
The scene where Aeris dies. I almost cried. Almost... *sniff*

I could of course keep talking about Final Fantasy 7 the whole day but I don't have much time today ._.

kthxbye

I Played Final fantasy 1 when I was about 13 and got hooked on it, bought the strategy guide, and went apeshit over it.

I personally love 7. Although 8 was nice, the gf combat took ages and was kind of boring.

So....

Final Fanatasy 7
Scid
I don't have a favorite location..
and it has been so long since I have played it that I have pretty much forgotten most of it, heh.

SinSin

Final fantasy 7 is by far the best
Loved all of it and keep playing to this day nuff said
Currently working on a project!

I'll have to jump onto the bandwagon and say FF7, aswell.
Favorite character: Barrett. Anyone with a gun for a hand kicks major ass.
Favorite location: I forget the name of it, but the place where you sneak into a ship and such. I thought that whole sequence was very cinematic.
Favorite Scene: Same as Pablos.
You. Me. Denny's.

Favourite Final Fantasy Game:

Yep, FF7. Once again, first RPG game I ever played. (I'd have to say though, if say FF9 had been the first RPG I'd ever played, then that would have been my fave. It's all down to the impact a fresh type of game gave.)

Favourite character of that game:

Of that game? Red XIII.Ã,

Favourite location

I wish I'd put down FF9 now. Erm.. the village where they have a beach and some kids kicking a beach ball around!

The early later (???) games in the series are okay, but I much prefer the NES and SNES titles, my most favourite being IV. The story had me gripped in bits, as I could relate to the rollercoaster friendship Cecil (I named him Azrael) had with his best friend Kain (I named him Joshua).

Favourite Final Fantasy Game : IV
Favourite character of that game: Between Rydia (I named her Illyria) and Palom/Parom
Favourite location: The Moon!
Most memorable event: Probably Mt. Ordeal, and missing the "Spoony Bard" line :P

My favorite Final Fantasy Game ...

Well, that's a tough one.

I'd have to see the one where I am the ruler of the galaxy and Princess Leia (circa 1977) and Jessica Simpson are serving me wine and grapes as we lounge about under a canopy of palm fronds on a deserted tropical island playing no-limite Texas hold-em right before the planet is destroyed by a meandering rogue comet ...

My favorite moment of this final fantasy game is when Princess Leia and Jessica Simpson slowly undress eachother and then they ... er ... wait, that's just too private to divuldge ...

Paper Carnival

I didn't know you fantasised over old chicks, Darth.

What is Final Fantasy? I've heard a lot about it, but never really played...
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

Radiant

My fave FF game.... probably one of those Flash games that come with 8-bit Theatre.

Fave character, obviously, is Black Mage!

Disco

Something that has bugged me about the Playstation era of Final Fantasy games is that I have to sit and watch a 4 minute movie every time I want to summon in battle. "Yay, here comes the cyber-dragon to save us...no wait, it has to come from the moon first...okay it's almost here. Now it has to flap it's wings for a minute... okay NOW! [b00m]"  :-\. In 4 it is instant compared to 7 and 8. Those games' summoning materia annoyed me to the point where I just wanted to do physical attacks.

Cecil (I named him Azrael) had with his best friend Kain (I named him Joshua).
Rydia (I named her Illyria)

As you probably guessed I am quite fond of custom naming my FF characters. Ones I remember from 7 are:

Cloud > Maurizio
Tifa > Hatori
Barrett > Roger (:o)
Yuffie > Isis
Cid > Orion
Cait Sith > Harold
Red XIII > Yaruba

ManicMatt

I know someone who had Barrett named as "Mr T"

I tended to name them all after friends and family!

Oh and once I was bored years ago and started up a game of FF7 and named them all by cuss words, or something like: "Hey, 'I want to shag you', get over here!"

First of all, I have to say that people tended to overlook FFX because of the production values and the fact that the character was a jock.  Also, the plot was fairly confusing if you didn't have certain bits of information.

One thing I was learning at the time I played was Jungian/Joseph Campbell myth structure (for film class), which I believe are absolutely necessary to understand the game.  For example, the feminine side of the self is the anima, which all men must combat in order to find themselves.  An examination of this in the main villain and then in the main hero reveals a lot, and you don't need to overanalyze--it's all there on the surface.  I don't have to explain to people who know the story exactly how literal the Japanese writers took this (at least in translation).  When you follow the whole structure into Jungian analysis of the "self", most of the rest of the plot falls into place.

That said, it wasn't my favourite.

Favourite FF : FFVI (or III in the states)
Favourite Character : Fire Elemental, Final Fantasy IV (or II in the states) "Was it flame?  I will show you how."
Favourite Location : Terra Cavern (barely) FFI -- entirely due to the awesome music.  Visually speaking, it would have to be the temple on the moon FFIV, especially the last bit before you fight Zeromus.
Memorable Moment : Waking up in the world of ruin/the edge of the cliff (same point in the game) FFVI -- I won't reveal anything about it, but the first time this happened, I cried.  It was amazing.  Second place goes to the bit where black mages explain the concept of mourning the dead (FFIX).  I've never seen it put that way, and placed in the mouths of such innocent characters--great.

Although I like what people say about the plot, I just got bored with FF7 and never finished it.  I barely made any progress at all in FFII (JP), FFIII (JP) or FFVIII either, so I can't speak for those.
I also really liked my old signature.

Renal Shutdown

Final Fantasy 5.
The Pirate Lass.
The Pirate Ship, with flying modification.
Travelling in the Flying Pirate Ship.

Fabiano

Best FF: FF X (Character Relationship and character story are amazing) and FF VI (Story is superb)
Best Characters: FFX Auron, FFVI Locke
Location: FFX - Zanzarkan (or something like that), FF VI - Zozo Town
Scene: FFX - The Ending, FFVi - The Opera House
Yeah, yeah, It happens. A lot.

ManicMatt

I did mention it! I just put a "9" instead of the roman numeral. :P

If I had to play either FF7 or FF9 again at this present time I'd pick nine. Sorry but FF7's characters look to old technically speaking to tolerate. Here's hoping they remake it on PS3 like I hear they might!

Matt Damon

bspeers also mentioned ff9 (as a second place though).

I personally only played FF7, and I remember it being pretty good.  More into action games though, atmidedly.
