Yes, that's right. Hello.

I have started my own website, I call it 56modern.com. I want to talk about computer games as an art form, not in a very academic manner, but rather in a fun way to show that "computer game" does not equal "click, turn, shoot, level up".

To give my page a kind of a starting point and hopefully wash a wave of people in, I decided to set up a little competition. I had this idea some days ago, and I love it, I must admit. I want you to fail.

Everybody knows about Speedruns, how they are performed, who performs them and who likes to watch them. But nobody knows about Speedfails, because I invented them today! A simple task: Take your favourite computer game, fail as hard and as quickly as you can, and then post it on youtube as a video response to my own fail.

If you like the idea, read more about it on my site, exactly here: http://www.56kmodern.com/timeray/37/56kompo1-speedfails/

And participate!

I, object.

I've got Dial-up, so cant use YouTube.
However, there are at least two ways of dying in Half-Life before you even have the HEV suit...

Too bad you're on dial-up - ending Half Life before it even began would be what I consider a pretty spectacular fail!
I, object.

Chicky

...and that would be what I consider a pretty unfair comment!

You should turn 56modern into a 56k friendly gaming site.

Hey, but it is modern! Oh, and I was talking about his concept to end Half Life prematurely, not about him not being able to upload! Now I realize how mean that comment sounds...  8) :o :'(

edit: Yes, and I have edited it now. Thanks for pointing that out, it was really not meant that way. I would never ever make fun of a dial-up user, I've been one of them for long enough.
I, object.

You may want to check out these videos, In which Dr. Ashens attempts to discover the quickest game overs ever. They should be pretty helpful for your article!

"Is there a quicker 'Game Over' than naught-point-four seconds? I don't care because I'm bored of this now!" ;D Nice find Krimson.

I don't know about Speedfails, but I win at Pagefails because clicking on the 56modern.com link in your sig brought me to a Page Load Error. :( But your Speedfails link works, and from there your main page works. Go figure.

Are there any prizes for winning? :D

That would probably be because the link is to "56modern.com" and the site is located at "56Kmodern.com"

Incredible, that guy has really laid the groundwork for speedfails! I think I shall include his videos as inspiration for potential speedfailers.

It's around 730kb, so you modem and smallband users can have a glimpse too.

These days any google account will do.

Wonkyth

Sometime I'll look them up while I'm dual-surfing the net with a(broadband having) friend.

@Chicky - I wouldn't really help me much anyway: things that are supposed to take two hours on 56K take me about six and a half!

Regarding speedfails, I can think of several adventure games where you can die in the first room. For instance, how many people have played KQ1 and fell off the bridge within seconds? Or played SQ3 and picked up the sharp metal next to your starting place? Or played LL1 and walked across the road? Come on, don't be shy :)

I had that in mind too :)

Getting shot by the sarien in SQ1 is also pretty easy...
