Man, being a web developer is tough. I can already see I'm going to have to learn how to program web apps for XMPP. :-/

It's not that hard. In fact the reason it's so awesome is its simplicity/extensibility. The core principal is just that any communication is represented as a chunk of XML with a from, to, message type and body, whether it's an IM, email, voice communication or a file or anything else that could be construed as 'conversation'. And that any XMPP client has their own name@domain.com address which you can send the xml directly to.

There's XMPP libraries for practically every language: http://xmpp.org/software/libraries.shtml

If you're not personally interested then that's cool, but to say you don't think it's revolutionary, not read the stuff offered that explains exactly why it is revolutionary, and yet still deny it's revolutionary is blinkered and a little annoying and somewhat akin to creationists bleating 'show me the evidence' yet refusing to look at any of the evidence when it's offered. :p

Also as Rich says, as a collaborative tool it is already immensely useful. We're using it on a project right now and it makes a huge difference in how you can communicate on a project over stuff like MSN / email.
Sorry, I'm not trying to be an @$$... I read the full article and somewhat understand what it entails, but like anything new, more useful applications must be present before you see its true potential.

The download for the AGS XMPP libraries seems to be missing... ???

Oooh, I'm in!
Got my invite today and I'm in... but have no Google buddies to experiment with.
Anyone else got Google Wave give me a shout... my username is Stupot815

:-)

I haven't got a clue about all this XMPP balderdash.  I just wanna play with what's available.

Um, OK. I got an invite, and I'm in. I didn't even have any interest in trying it out, but I suppose I should. I could actually have use for it in developing games with a team, or at least with one other person. Of course that doesn't help if I don't have anybody I work on BTS with, signed up.

I have no idea what my user name is, and I have no idea how this f***ing thing works. My GMail account is RichardJBrum@gmail.com so I might be under RichardJBrum.
Status: Trying to come up with some ideas...

Wonkyth

Yep, all google things use the same account.

Synthetique

I wonder if this will change the way we cooperate while making games in a group. I got some invites anyways.

Stupot

I have 12 invites (out of 16)... I started with 8 and have no idea where the other 8 came from... anyone get how that works?

Invites are no longer anything special ... it's just Google's way of making us all think getting onto Wave is something "elite" and/or "special".

It's their (admittedly brilliant) marketing ploy to draw in users.  Make it seem hard to acquire and more people will want it :P

Stupot

It is still in need of severe teething though... Although you're probably right about it being a bit of a marketing ploy, they wouldn't dream of leaving it wide open for everyone at this moment in time.  Still way too buggy, laggy and unfinished.

I signed up for an invite but still haven't received one. So if someone has one to spare, I'd love an invite. Can't promise I will actually end up using Google Wave, but I'd sure as hell like to see it in action (so I guess their marketing ploy did work :)). Cheers.

Edit: Getting one from Darth. Many thanks!
