Ok, I started playing my guitar agian, and I have been playing blind for a long time and I'm tired of not knowing how to play.

I would like to know if anyone knows where I can find (perferably for free  :P) a chord chart with the little numbers to indicate which finger to use for the chords.

Thanks
Earlwood

I use this one all the time:

www.olga.net

It's a general guitar site.
It has everything from chord charts to sales pitches.  (Pitches, get it?);
I fail at art.

Wakka, wakka, wakka; Releasethefrogs...  ;)

There's usually a poster of some type you can pick up at Wal-mart or K-mart that shows a few different chord structures you can use.  I have one, myself.

Other than that, if you just want some tablature (tablature is the word you seem to be looking for: tablature: a lazy man's sheet music.) you can go to http://www.mxtabs.org. You can find pretty much any song you can think of there.
Watch, I just killed this topic...

Yeah mxtabs is better than olga.
You whet my pants...

Lazy man's sheet music, heh... :P

It's hard to play the single string at a time melodies from sheets, right? I haven't even played from sheets... Oh, I have, with the chords to play marked between the word lines... If you've heard the song you're about to play from sheet, it's a lot easier then if you haven't, methinks.

And I use mxtabs too... it's great.
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

I want something like this too. I don't have six fingers.

:P I think I miss typed something some where, I was looking for a chord chart that would have something like this.

+-+-+-+-+-+
1  1 1  1  1 1
+-+-+-+-+-+
1  2 1  1 1  1
+-+-+-+-+-+
3  2 1  1 1  1

Something like that....maybe even with this horrible example, you guys understand what I mean....thats not tabs by the way...it's meant to be read vertically...just want to avoid any 'thats tab you idiot' or 'Are you sure you aren't playing a bass...idiot?' flames.

Like showing the neck of the guitar and which frets?

Don't you have eight fingers?

The best way to do that is to fit your hand comfortably around the neck with the tip of your longest finger all the way to the edge. Think of what finger you can bar over the neck (if any) most comfortably. Then try to fit your other fingers to the chord.

You can buy guides that tell you what finger can go where at most guitar stores, but eventually you're going to NEED to learn to figure that out for yourself. Once you memorize the main chords and can switch between them quickly and accurately, the others are easy.

Learning to play guitar is hard.. I didn't remember how hard until I started giving friends lessons and realized how slow they progressed. Three months is a long time, and I practiced hours every day for three months before I learned "Know your Enemy" by RATM, the first difficult song I learned to play.
Once I killed a man. His name was Mario, I think. His brother Luigi was upset at first, but adamant to continue on the adventure that they started together.

My parents got me a poster with guitar chords printed on it today, including numbers for each finger.
Right now I only really want to learn some chords, for composing and maybe recording purposes.
This page seems like it could be some help, although it only shows a few chords: http://guitaralliance.com/guitar_lessons/guitar_chords/common_open_chords.htm

Ishmael

In the end of one tablature I have there is something like this:

Play the chords like this:
Am |002210|
G7 |320001|
F |133211|

Which basically means, in tabs the Am would be:

E|---0---
B|---1---
G|---2---
D|---2---
A|---0---
E|---0---

Like right?

You've got it backwards, the little e is always listed first and is on top of tablature.

EDIT: Then again there are lots of amatuer tab writers, they don't always follow conventions. You did copy that down right, that is Am.

... I don't mean to bust your chops, but that IS the correct form for tablature.  Standard tuning is (low to high) EADGBe... like this:

e|---0---
B|---1---
G|---2---
D|---2---
A|---0---
E|---0---

If you pick up any guitar magazine, like Guitar World for example, that's how they write their tablature.

I don't know, maybe I misunderstood what you meant, though...

I've seen both, but most of them are that way.

Oh Earlwood,

You just have to remember there are 8 whole tones in a scale, and a whole step between each interval except between the 3rd and 4th note and the 7th and 8th note... every fret is one half step.  The strings are, in standard tuning, EADGBE.  Chords are easy.  A major chord is a 1st, 3rd, and 5th.  A minor chord is a 1st, b3rd, and a 5th....... oh bugger.  This takes too long.  Go to harmony-central.com!!!!!

I meant that when chords are written from left to right the little e is usually on the left, like eBGDAE... and in tabs, the little e is on top, like you said.

Trap, I have never seen anyone play A with the middle in front of the index.

As for the rest of you, I dont think it really matters anyway. Most of you probably play some crazy drop tuning. And if not that then you should be able to hear it sounding wrong otherwise.
