Gunsmoke... NES, did anyone play this?

Ok, just a tiny question. I dug up this NES emulator and some games that I used to LOVE when I was a bit younger but hadn't played them for many years. One of them was this, Gunsmoke


Rings a bell? Good, because then I suppose you could know a little bit of something I don't. You see, I just played 20 minutes straight in a row... the first level. I've been to level 4, 3 many times, easily, just by shooting the buggers from my way and then killing the bad guy in the end, but now that I play, I seem to repepat the same scene over and over again. So is there really soething you're not supposed to do when you walk through it. I noticed once when I played that I walked through it 3 times and then got to the next level, walked through that 3 times, but hey.

If I knew how, I could make an awesome video, lasting 20 minutes or more, of me going through the same thing voer and over again. seriously, I lknow the 1st level by heart now, the last times I just stood as in the front as possible and shot everyone before they were visible.

I tried google, all game sites, I don't know how to reach the second level, the manual says nothing like it. Jeez, I even had 10 lives when the guy starts with 4 or 3, just by going through it again and again collecting the same stuff.

I dont really get what you mean... But it sounds more likely to be a Emulator/ROM error than anything else.

Yeah, I thought about it too. Well, basically there's this are you walk I guess 3 times, like the scene is repeating itself, and once you go through it a good while it ends with a boss. But now it just loops. Is that any more clear?

Can't help you, but that game reminds me a lot of SEUCK, good times..

Some emulators have a NES Movie function. You could download Nestopia and use that. Then you could zip the movie into a file and post on an emu-talk forum. Maybe someone there could help you.

Or you could just find another rom or tools to ensure the ROM image is a good dump (!) or bad dump (?)

As far as I remember you have to find something like a secret item (something like a flyer I think) each stage, which was hidden, try shooting at barrels and even soem ground tiles which are suspicious (those which block your bullets).

I remembered teh good time when my Famicom was still working and playing the disk.

Yeah, I played this game with my brother. You have to collect the 'Wanted poster' before you can get to the stage boss, which is hidden. Otherwise the level loops.

I remember a bug; I got stuck behind a stone and my brother continued to walk forward, which made me fall off screen. But then I became invincible, I could still move and shoot but bullets didn't do damage nor could I pick up items, which meant that after my brother died I couldn't pick up posters.

Also, next time check GameFAQs first, no wonder there's a walkthrough for this popular game.

Just for the record. Gunsmoke is teh awesomest. I don't know how many hours of my life I have wasted playing this game. It beats teh crap out of every space shooter out there! I mean.. cowboys, wanted posters and horseys. And lots of gunsmoke! Gold for your average 10 year old boy..

Geez, apparently in the NES version you have to buy the postes/leaflet. Thanks guys, this rocked my world again. I have been generally shooting every possible box I could, might have missed it though, but doesn't matter now.
