Okay, I dont know what I am doing wrong, but when I first bought my pc 3 weeks ago, I was able to run DVD's fine off my Computer.

Now, still being set in region 1...

I use Windows media player to play them and I get a digital copyright protection error and it wont play my DVD's. I use the Interactual player and it gives me a CSS error.

I use WinDVD and I the video it plays is choppy, extremely choppy.

I tried reinstalling the movies, and I tried to use other programs and download the mpeg2 codec and install it.

What else can I do?

And my DVD's are actually DVD's, not copies, and they are region 1 DVD's cause they play on my regular Region 1 DVD player.

are you trying to run the DVDs from your hard drive or do you mean you tried reinstalling the dvd playback software?
one thing you could try is buying a cd lens cleaning kit, a dirty lens might cause discs to skip, another thing to try is shutting down all programmes that don't need to be running.
another thing i'd advise is getting a multi-region dvd drive (if it isn't already) or if it's a samsung drive, throw it away, they're useless...

I reinstalled my DVD players.

And I tried all those things mentioned.

The DVD player I use came with my gateway computer.

I even did the troubleshooting thing in windows, but nothing. Any other idea's?

Las Naranjas

I got a DVD drive a month ago. First it went fine, then it started getting too choppy.

And I haven't fixed it.

Just recently my DVD player stopped working for no reason I could percieve... I searched around and ended up downloading this: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358
It seems to be able play my DVDs without any whining.

Hehehe, it seems all DVD drives have probs -- My DVD drive works fine but it has this strange bug where it won't load anything on my first boot-up (cold boot) of my computer, but will work when I reset my system after loading windows.

I use PowerDVD with my computer -- Best DVD player IMHO.

My DVD/CD-RW drive works perfectly, and has done for over 2 years. I use PowerDVD, which does the job excellently. Dunno if it's the best one though, as I've never tried any others.

Las Naranjas

I got the program that Trap linked to to play Quicktime and real media files without the associated bloatware.

But I have to say it's not very good for DVD's, mainly the colour. It seems to either be way way too dark, or washed out and bright, and non adjustable.

When I tell people I have a "LiteOn," they seem to become disgusted, for some reason.  Can't see why, it's a great product.

Did you ever manage to fix this JD?

Have you got DMA switched on for your DVD-ROM Drive?

You could try something like DVD Genie to see if that helps - it could be your DVD-ROM Player is set to 1, but Windows is set to something else?

Let us know how you get on.

Matt

Sorry for not replying, my net connection is horrible. I am thinking about going DSL. Sorry about that.

Anyways, yeah, DMA is on, but still nothing.

I will try DVD Genie to see if it would fix the problem.

Whats Liteon?

Anyway, I did fix it, partially. I used DVD X player (I only have the trial edition). It works fine for some reason. Better than I would have expected. Only thing is that it expires after 30 days and I can only watch 15 minutes at a time.

So I downloaded DVD X Copy free, and it plays it fine too, but it doesn't have other features that make it comfortable.

I used the following players without any luck:

Maximus DVD
Eugenes DVD player (Missing SDudf.dll or something like that)
I coded my own DVD player in VB
I used other custom programmed DVD players
Interactual Player (Gives me a CSS error)
Media Player (Gives me a digital copyright error
DivX Player --- Extremely bad video
WinDVD

None of these worked.

Any other ideas?
