How many smokers up in here?

Recently I've, oddly enough, had an urge to start smoking. It just seems like the right thing to do when you're sitting out on the balcony, which I now do almost every day when I have time and wanna just relax and enjoy the sun. I don't really know where the urge comes from since I've smoked exactly one cigarette in my whole life (a long time ago) and it wasn't such a pleasant experience...

I probably just need something to divert my attention from my addiction to Tetris...

I've been smoking most weekends since about two years back.

For some reason I've convinced myself that it's okay as long as I'm smoking with freinds. It seems more like a social interaction then a bad habit.

Tonight for instance, I smoked about 10-12 ciggarettes. But I've never touched one on a weekday (monday to thursday).

 I started smoking when I was 7 years old, the story is that I caught my sis smoking my grandma's ciggs and she gave me one so I'd shut up about it.

After that I got on and off, I didn't smoke at 8.  I stopped for a couple of years, I tried it again at 10, stopped, started again around 15 got on and off depending on how stressed I got. I got fat 'cause I switched to emotionally eating, then it turned into a different disorder but that's another story.

Just last month a guy was smoking, sitting next to me and I was just all stressed out over university and I had a slip.

Smoking is bad, I really should stop completely, I had a hole in my throat when I was younger (but that was before I even started to smoke so the ciggs didn't cause that, my big mouth did- either way a hole is a hole,it's closed up now obviously but I shouldn't do anything to re-open it).

The "smoking to relieve stress" was probably psychological, but I like the smell of them, I always found it soothing, so perhaps I should get a sort of tobacco potpourri?

I smoke since 10 years and I smoke much.. between 20 and 50 per day, depending on how long the evening is, how much I drink, how boring it is etc.

I disagree with InC that the "fake group" of people who don't smoke every day are idiots. I have some friends who smoke a little, depending on the situation, and can have days without any cigarette. That's what I'd wish for: I can't possibly go on with my addiction for another ten years, but I don't want to completely stop smoking. Also, I don't want to smoke marijuana without any tobacco in it

Well, there's nothing stopping a non-smoker from carrying a lighter too. It's interesting you should mention pretty girls asking for a light as they tend not to be anything like as pretty after another decade or so of smoking.

I smoke, have been for 7 years, and I still enjoy doing it. However, rationally I know it's a really stupid habit, and I know I'll want to quit sometime in the coming year. Problem is, I still enjoy doing it, and it feels almost equally stupid giving up something I enjoy from which I am (as of yet) not experiencing any bad effects.

But I know that'll happen, and I'd like to limit the damage before that time comes

I think that's more to do with the price of a fix.  Cigarettes are much more easy to afford on a regular income... And if a smoker is strapped for cash, he or she will either try to blag one or two off a friend (promising to pay them back, but never doing so) or else they'll try to borrow the cigarette money.  Whereas a smackhead needs more money more frequently, the kind they can't just blag off a mate temporarily.  So they're forced into stealing and robbing and selling their bodies.

Let it be known that some smokers will steal... cigarettes are easily the number one thing that goes missing on nights out (or maybe 2nd after money, but thats coz it was spend on beer, not stolen)... And, I've known people to make their own rollies out of the leftover butts in ashtrays... if that's not desperation I don't know what is.

Lots of other uses for a lighter (though chicks do seem to dig my Zippo - and no, that's not a euphemism) - campfires, concerts, Rocky Horror Picture Show screenings, random bouts of pyromania, exploring ancient Peruvian temples...

I guess you're right, my trips to the local grocery store do get wild sometimes.

Though sadly we don't have midnight RHPS screenings here.

I smoke when I'm on fire... I tend to avoid that as much as possible. As for cigarettes, cigarillos, cigars and pipes I have never. Although a pipe would be rather dashing.
