Things that annoy you about games

Well first of all I have to congratulate Eric on what he said. I agree completly!

Second about games: Computer games have been around for 25-30 years. Even more, I'm not sure. What's the problem with that. Well, one basic problem is that most ideas have allready been done. I mean, the age of Tetris and Pacman are gone. Where are the original ideas? Gone I say. So what can you do? There is an industry, and a huge one I might add, which has to be fed. This means that a lot of games have to come out. It is partialy the same as movie industry. There is not a single idea original. Ok, I do say that there will always be something original, other wise me as a creator would commite suicide. But generally speaking we have to admite that everything tends to be the same. On the story or gameplay side. Is this good? Not really, but this way the only thing the companies can invest on is how to make the whole package better. Better graphics, better sound better boobs. Why not? It's been happening to the cinema years now, why not the game industry?

I say Yay! Go for it. I'm in for the great games to come. And frankly I'm not sure that games are really getting shorter (ok, some of them are, but others...). I think that gamers are getting more professional. I just order for 2.89 GBP, Oni. Has anyone heard of it? A buit old, I would say 3-4 years. Well I love it! It is long, graphics are great, as well as music. The story is bullshit but who cares. Anime style, great animation, great everything and proven great gameplay.

Why not?

We all started at some point to play games. don't let nostalgia get in the way of what's coming.

And pay attention that I waited 4 (?) years to buy ONI! I'll probably do the same with Farenheit! And of course by then my cmoputer will be upgreated another two times, so who gives a shit, what games want right now. If you're desperate to buy the latest game in the market, well you're kind of victims. Victims of the advertising industry that sells you everything new.

And now I'll stop cause if I go on I'll keep saying more, and that's not good at all. And as I think that I started my post wanting to say Bravo to Eric and nothing more... Shit! I can't keep my mouth shut!

InCreator: I deal with music. Seriously. Which means that I need pretty good equipment. What I don't need though is the latest software. I'm pretty good with Finale 2000, Cubase SX, and Gigasampler 1. What if there are new software every month. I do my job, and well I might add (I'm so selfish!!!!!), so why upgrade? The only thing I need is more RAM. I only have 512 MB and it's not enough when you deal with 24bit samples. Not enough at all.

And no, I like you. I respect you. And I do have a hatred towards consoles for some reason. As I do towards MAC even more. I don't know really why. But I always had PC. Always!

The thing about consoles is that they're entirely game machines.  Computers can have games on them, but it's not specifically what they are made for.  It's pretty obvious that computers run much better if they don't have any huge ass game in it.  A computer can do everything a game console can but more, whereas a console can do one specific thing better.

I just find it -bizarre- that you refer to it as a `craze`, as if it's temporary. Well, I find everything you've said so far about console gaming bizarre. Sure, it annoys you and you were just stating it... it's just... strange, really. Console gaming encompasses every kind/genre of gaming, and all consoles have their own style. If you think console games require less thinking than PC games, you must be thinking of them all as kiddy platformers or something. Not just the games themselves but the controls can be very complex!

I won't get into it though, it's been handled already ^_^

What annoys me with gaming... the majority of consumers being clueless about gaming. I know it's the way of the world that as games become more popular, they also gain a wider audience of people that care less about them, but I look fondly back on the days when the only people who played games were people that really liked playing games.

Also, the shit little kids play. You look at any Top Ten list for consoles/hand helds like the GBA and it's almost entirely Pokemon. I look at my little nieces playing games and I can't help think, `It's your fault I have to look so hard to find anything decent to play.`

I wish people cared more about making genuinely good games.

Well you can blame the shit little kids play on the media... warning people about violence in video games... it's all the same.  They just don't like certain games, and therefore they start to really bother the voilent one and encourage other games.  Pokemon is a game about trainers who "love and care and make bestest friends" with their little creatures who they hold in tiny spherical balls and use to earn money in cock fights.  It's all bullcrap i say... bullcrap!

What irritates me is people who get too emotional about game companies and games, which hardware, software is better and the inexplicable notion that buying a product engenders any obligation from the seller but to give you that product.

I'm almost half expecting in a decade or so to be watching the TV when a Current Affair comes on with a story about the heartless, weirdo family that kept hundreds of animals in their stinky, run-down ranch... all in little red and white plastic balls.

What annoys me about games?

Orcs and World War 2, man. Orcs and World War 2. I've seen enough of those.

- The fact that my local "game store" (it's not a real game store, k) still hasn't got a copy of Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow.
- Lack of game boxes and manuals, as Tom said (though GBA and DS games come with good manuals \o/).
- The fact that my Nintendo doesn't work very well anymore.
- Expensive games.
- The lack of neat game cover images (ie. Loom, Faxanadu, The Legend of Zelda... all have AWESOME cover images).

Yuftster, this isn't Idle Thumbs. ;)

Though, I do hate that games will cost more, and yet they'll be equally meh in memorability. And also, that unless someone has the guts to make something new and exciting, there'll be plently of GTA clones for years to come.

I also hate that new games MUST push the graphics all the way in order for them to be bought and be fun. We have fun just playing games with retro graphics... I think a lot of us put good emphasis on animation which is really more important than the graphics, so they could do that on normal games. Oh, but then the guy with the most expensive pc won't buy it... boo hooo hoo...

Well, to quote some drunk guy I met somewhere, "Playing a game only for graphics is like owning a ferrari without an engine."
