My wife forwarded me this, and though it is a bit overly thought out, I am reposting it since it is funny nonetheless.

Aladdin: In one scene, Genie calls Al's clothes "so 3rd century."  Genie says he has been in the lamp for 10,000 years, so there's no way he could know of the fashion trends which have happened since he's been trapped.  Which means the latest Genie could've been trapped in the lamp is the 3rd century.  If he spent 10,000 years in there, it is now AT LEAST the year 10,300 AD when he gets out.

Conclusion: Aladdin takes place IN THE FUTURE.  A post-apolcalyptic world where only Arab culture (and some Greek) survived.  It has been so long that the name "Arabia" has been corrupted to "Agrabah".  The Muslim religion has atrophied to the point where there are no mosques, Imams, or prayer mats, but people still give praise to Allah in moments of happiness.  Amazing technological marvels left behind by the previous civilations, like sentient flying carpets or genetically engineered parrots which comprehend human speech instead of just mimicing it, are taken for granted by the locals or considered "magic."

The Genie proves this my making impressions of ancient, long-dead celebrities like Groucho Marx, Jack Nicholson, etc.

:= I know it's just a joke and fictional, however, the conclusion assumes the genie is referring to at least ten thousand years ago (it is 10,300 AD). But technically he could have been freed from the lamp at the very turn of the 3rd century. He could actually be saying Alladin's clothes are "so last year" because it becomes the 4th century during the timescale of the animation. The celebrity impressions I can't explain.

Didn't the genie make an automobile with a convertible roof in one episode? There may be other anachronisms in the show to besides the celebrity impressions.

That's kind of how I always figured it; the genie's seen the future. Maybe one of his previous masters wished for knowledge from distant times, who knows.

Disney did a similar thing with Merlin in Sword In The Stone. But the jokes are a lot more restrained

Merlin: Maybe one day they'll make a motion picture about you
Audience Member: Oh ho ho ho ho! I'M watching one of those!! Pop culture refereeeeence!!!
Audience Member 2: lol! So meta!

Simpler times. Simpler times.

You know, no one outside of the intellectual elite of a small christian cult would have referred to the 3rd century AD as the "3rd century" -that whole dating system was retroactively imposed once the church became sponsored/co-opted by the Roman state in the 4th century.  Thus, I conclude that the genie is referring to some other third century in some other epoch.
