Today, I bought the Indiana Jones Collector's case, remastered for DVD, and I must say, these are possibly the best movies I have ever seen!

Being the age that I am, I didn't see these when they first came out, but now that I have, I just have to share it with everyone!  :)

However I was disappointed when I couldn't hear the voices, because I don't have 5.1 dolby surround sound, but im happy to have spent a good 30 bucks for 3 great movies!

Here's the one I bought

ManicMatt

Uh.. you can surely pass the sound through to your stereo speakers, or play it on your PC. You dont HAVE to have surround speakers to play it. Heck, insert headphones even!

Speaking of boxsets, I got BlackAdder complete collection for £34.99!  :D

You can't hear the voices? You're certainly doing something wrong. And while I must agree with you that the Indiana Jones films are true classics, they would be absolutely worthless without any voices...

you need to make sure whatever you're using to play it (be it a dvd player or software) isn't set to use 5.1 stereo, there is probably an option on the DVDs in a Setup menu that allows you to choose the audio setup.
inserting headphones like matt suggested WON'T do any good as you'd still be trying to play 5.1 sound through stereo speakers.

Goota agree with you on this one, great trilogy!! This and Back the the Future remain my favourite trilogies, and even moreso now that I've realised I love the slightly darker nature of the second film of both trilogies (same goes for Die Hard). I wish I'd seen the Indy trilogy at the cinema but I'm pretty sure I only saw Last Crusade.

R4L

Well I can hear voices, but they're very faint. I changed the sound settings on my TV but the voices are still hard to hear.

GarageGothic

The audio settings should be changed in the DVD player setup menu, as BOYD said, not on the TV.

BOYD1981

well i actually meant any setup menu on the DVD itself, but yeh, check the DVD player too.

I have the same boxet (awesome btw) and I play the movies on a regular DVD hooked up to a regular Stereo TV and I have everything great.
Try to set up the audio on the DVD menu as the lowest setting but anyway it can't be that you can't hear the voices.

ManicMatt

Hmph, well on my dvd player, inserting headphones changes the sound mode to 2 channel stereo automatically, so there!  :P

Maybe it doesn't do that on other ones then.

But headphones was hardly a final method anyway.

Back to the Future is my favourate trilogy of ALL time!

I'm still not buying the second version of the boxset, those cash hungry bastards.  >:(

It tells something about Lucas' ability to write dialogue when his movies are equally appreciated without voices.

Redwall

I'd consider Indy to be more Spielberg than Lucas (although obviously both had much to do with it).

I had heard a while back that they were going to make another film...Anyone know the status of that ?

Interesting that both Raiders of the Lost Ark and Empire Strikes Back, arguably the best movies in the two series, were written mainly by Lawrence Kasdan, and that Lucas pretty much only wrote the stories for both trilogies. But of course he wrote the amazing ::) dialogue for the new Star Wars trilogy.

Yes, it's true! They are making another Indy movie. On May 2008 Indiana Jones 4 will be in the cinema. Filming will begin in June 2007.
Casting:
Harrison Ford    Indiana Jones
Sean Connery   Henry Jones Sr.  not sure
Natalie Portman     not sure

and more

Redwall

Indy 4 has been in development hell for years. Every year there's a new story that "filming will begin in ____ and it will be released in ____". I hope by now they just replace the dates and don't bother to write a whole new article for those non-stories.

ummm. not really. for years it was always "when george finishes star wars then they will look at doing indi4"

I'm pretty sure Indy4 was on the cards ever since Indy3. These things just don't go public so early. Same happens in our gameworld. Oh yes! But I can't say anymore :)

Definitely. I reckon Lucas said "yes" to a script, turned up to a couple of locations and that was it :P

Going back (to the future), I think this thread and the "ideas for nightmares" thread sparked up a strange dream for me last night. I dreamt I had my own time-travelling delorean. It's one of the longest dreams I've ever encountered, I was going all over the place, meeting lots of people. Then I got this feeling it was going to get nicked, so I went back to the car park I'd parked it in and true enough, someone had stolen it! But luckily like 2 seconds beforehand, so I saw them pull-off. In nightmare style I couldn't run, but they did some crazy manouvere which meant they had to go back on themselves. I ran up to the car and remembered I'd left the sunroof unlocked, so the robbers thought I'd go for the door and didn't get a chance to react when I actually jumped on the roof and hauled open the sun-roof.

This is the mad part. I jumped in through the sun roof head first, toward the lap of the fat robber man :P I awoke to find myself hurtling toward my bedroom floor. I had actually pounced in my sleep. That's never happened before!! Anyway, just thought you might give a shit ;)

You didn't jump,  I threw you off the bed. Don't take all the covers next time!
