I'm not arguing this anymore Andail but I don't think you've understood what I was saying. I feel you're exaggerating my point out to me being afraid of disagreement and that's not what I was saying at all. I also did not ask for "loads of music theory".

My final take on this is that Medical Waste did not cause very much controversy compared to the efforts spent on telling him off.
I'm not saying that he made a good counter argument, or that his post was all that necessaryt, but the overall level of hostility really skyrocketed after certain other peoples' "intervention".

Pesty

You're mistaken in thinking that Medical Waste was the target here. He's not the only person that did what I'm complaining about and this isn't the only thread that it's happening in. He just happened to be the person who defended his post when I felt like discussing this problem. For that I apologize to him. It's nothing personal, I swear!

As for my post progression, I don't feel the need to defend myself. My whole point is not to prevent polemics, that would be impossible to expect from the internet. It's to prevent unexplained one line polemics. If you're going to be a jerk, at least have some explanation behind it. If I had come in here and called everyone dicks without explaining myself, then yes, I would be a hypocrite. But I said why I felt that way. And I still stand by that.

Well, I don't wanna keep beating this dead horse, but your first post in this thread said something like "Jesus, you're all dicks because you just want to be contrary" which is in itself not much more than a controversial one-liner, one that people will want to disagree with.

If you want to moderate (intervene in order to resolve a situation that you're not personally involved in = moderate), at least employ some tact and set a good example.

QuoteLike I said before, I don't like Korn. This isn't me defending Korn. All I'm saying is that I ALWAYS see people eager to hop into a thread about something somebody likes and getting all over their case about it, and I just don't understand the point.

There's an interesting counterpoint to this that you're missing, Pesty:  people just as often hop enmasse into a thread to adore the topic a person brings up; is that unacceptable also?  If people should only post when they agree with a topic of discussion, don't you find things will get a little bland in internet town?

I don't really have an opinion on Korn aside from the fact that I hate pretty much all post-80s rock, but I think it's worth defending the rights of individuals to both dislike a topic and to comment on it so long as they aren't being jerkwads.  Sure, if I started a post I was passionate about I wouldn't want people tearing it apart, but then you realize the flip side that those people are probably just as passionate, just with a different view than yours.

Judgement:  Keep your opinions, but keep them civil.
