My my..
Threads like these make it impossible to be completely neutral :)
Oh well.. I don't listen to Korn at all but hey there's always time to change that..
Think I'll check out that performance  ;D

Pesty

Jesus christ you're all a bunch of dicks. Can't anybody post about something they like without people coming in JUST to be contrary?

Alas.

To anybody else: As I was hoping the 'pointless internet battles' comment would convey, I think this is rather silly and have little interest in pursuing it further. So, uh. Feel free to call me a bastard or a defiler of public decency or whatever, but don't address me expecting a reply. kthxbye

Eww Korn...

And here's the first good grounds on saying that:

I don't like their music! Now try and tell me I'm wrong with my opinion. Tell me I like them! You can't. because I know better what I like. Because it's my opinion, not the common one. Ok, so I don't see what people like about it, but so what.

I don't give a rat's ass if you don't like them. I don't like them, either. But people should at least have the decency to respect that some people DO and want to discuss them without having people come in here and constantly go "Eww, Korn". Nobody's forcing you to change your opinion. If you don't like them, don't reply to the thread. Is that SO hard?

Puppet Master

I watched this, and let's let it just be told early, I don't like Korn. Or Amy Lee for that matter.

But I noticed that about 70% of the sound come from their accompanying percussion ensembles and orchestras. In fact, all you can really hear from the band is Jonathan Davis' voice and occasionally Munky's guitar. You CAN however hear bass, as there are 3 upright bassists to make up for Fieldy's (in my opinion) terrible tone. My theory behind them having so many guests and accompanying musicians is this: They didn't sound very good unplugged, so they got more musicians so it sounds decent. However, most of the songs are so drastically different from the regular versions, they're unrecognizable.

So No, I didn't really like this episode of Unplugged, since it was barely even Korn, and I would have enjoyed to see it be just Korn, so they may prove me wrong, that they actually can make decent music without the distortion of guitar and bass. But so far I am not convinced.

Got up on the wrong side of the bed, did you :) Relax, it's harmless fun. And there's only this much Korn fans here to keep this alive, so why not give them something to talk about?

LGM

No, she has a point. It seems very common on the internet that whenever someone states they like something, there's a barrage of people who say it sucks. No matter what it is, it happens. Shit, it could happen with movies like Citizen Kane and God bless it, Star Wars. Get over yourselves, people. Just because someone says they like something doesn't automatically mean they think you like it... Or they even want you to like it.

GET. OVER. YOUR. HIGHLY. OPINIONATED. SELVES.

I didn't really like Citizen Kane that much...

Your post lacks any consistency DG. You accuse me of using the comment 'people who lack an open mind towards foreign music genres', but you've obviously got Korn summed up into your own nice comfortable stereotype.

At least it's based upon what I've listened to of Korn -- mainly their most popular albums and songs. If that's their popular stuff, I can't imagine their other stuff is any better. If you think it's a stereotype, fine. But at least it's a stereotype actually based upon some evidence.

QuoteDoing this means that ultimately you're going to end up listening to the same old until you get sick of it, and when it comes to the point that you're looking for something new all these bands you've stereotyped into genre's will be unaccessible to you.

I haven't stereotyped any genres. All I'm saying is that Korn hasn't developed past their angsty teen hate-my-parents rock since Life Is Peachy. At least other bands branch out and try new things. Korn has been repackaging the same album over and over and over. And they've got an eighth album due out soon. I can't imagine it'll be any different.

---

As for anyyone who has said something along the lines of "don't reply if you don't like Korn": Cut the sanctimony and stop being crybabies. If we're going to start a thread about, of all things, Korn, we should allow a right of reply from people who don't like Korn. I don't know what you guys think, but one-sided conversations are shit.

I've shown Evil and Chicky and others enough respect. I haven't said "ur a bunch of retards for liking Korn". No, all I've said is I don't like Korn and these are the reasons why. I haven't made fun of ANYONE in this thread. Well, except for Korn, I guess. But that's because I think they're untalented hacks.

Instead of going "boo hoo don't write if you don't like em" why don't you participate in the actual discussion. Perhaps post your own thoughts about Korn. At least I respect Chicky for replying back to me with something of substance that relates to the discussion at hand.

A lot of you are going "let them discuss Korn without others saying they don't like em". What are we supposed to do? Start a thread where people can talk about how much they don't like Korn and anyone who likes Korn can't respond?? Now, that's retarded!

If people want to go discuss Korn without anti-Korn people replying, go post about it on a Korn board!

I mean, seriously, someone starts a thread about a topic and you're NOT allowed to reply if you don't like it?? What kind of twisted world are you people from!! Y'know, it is possible to show someone respect AND disagree with them BOTH AT THE SAME TIME. I'm sure my rambling on about how I think Korn are untalented isn't going to stop Chicky or Evil or anyone from enjoying them. It's not like I took all their Korn CDs, put them in a big pile, lit them on fire and danced around the flames naked.

Bloody hell, we've had threads where people have disagreed about topics and they're still allowed to reply without anyone going "you hate such-and-such? dont reply!" Has the AGS forum really gotten to the point where, of all things, Korn is too HOT a topic for discussion?

oh wait i forgot this is the internet and its serious business

voh

Disregarding the hoity-toity drama you can find before this post, I just wanted to say that there are, in my opinion, some gems on this album.

I absolutely adore the Cure/Korn crossover (Lookie loo!) and the rendition they did of Love Song.

I think it's a decent album, even a decent show. I loved the orchestral bits.

All in all, I'm pleased. And yes, I am a long-time Korn fan, though Issues through the Untouchables left me cold. The new album, however, is a step upwards for them, and I'm willing to give them another chance.

This unplugged show gave me some more good tunes to listen to, and that makes me feel good. Regardless of anyone's opinion, because in the end, we all know what we like and dislike, and while it's possible to discuss on things like "they're geniuses" (which they aren't, though good musicians), it is never possible to discuss about taste.

Calling one another dicks and closed-minded gits won't get anyone anywhere, other than just that bit higher on the already high horse.

Giddy-up!
Still here.

Pesty

Like I said before, I don't like Korn. This isn't me defending Korn. All I'm saying is that I ALWAYS see people eager to hop into a thread about something somebody likes and getting all over their case about it, and I just don't understand the point. It's one thing entirely to have an actual discussion about Korn, it's another entirely to come into a thread and respond with things like

well you should

How is that discussing anything? All you people are doing is being dicks because you don't like Korn.

Medical Waste

Because I said I don't thinkt they're musical geniuses (a valid opinion which most sane people over the age of 15 would agree with) I am somehow not discussing the band?

I haven't said anything remotely bad here in this thread. It's been you Korn fan's on the defense. Grow a pair. People are going to disagree with you. Get used to it.

Evil

I think people assume that musicians don't know what they're doing because they make crappy music.

Honestly, I don't like Korn. I don't think their music is that great, but I have respect for what they do.

However, watching this show and seeing what they chose to do, shows to me, that they know what makes a good show. If someone likes metal, someone's gonna say I hate metal and that it sucks. Someone likes emo, someone else hates emo and that it suck. But for a "metal" band to bring together a group to do a semi-acoustic performance, they have to know what they're doing, or it'll never work.

This was very well done performance, and I would recommend it to anyone who has an open mind. They might not be "musical geniuses" in some peoples mind, but anyone that truly appreciates all forms of music can see that Korn has a deep knowledge and understanding of what makes great music.

...even if they don't utilize it. :)

Medical Waste

If you want metal mixed with acoustic guitars by real geniuses try Opeth.

voh

I like Opeth, but whenever I think Opeth, a part of me screams "Screw Opeth! Katatonia, idiot!".

But I like both.

Omerta is the most awesome song I've heard over the past year, though.
Still here.

Medical Waste

I could never get into Katatonia as much.

I'm not a Korn fan, as I've said twice. But that doesn't give me the urge to be a jerk and post "Korn? PAH! Korn sucks!!" just because someone wants to discuss Korn. There's absolutely no need for it. Let the people who want to discuss Korn discuss Korn and keep your rude one liners to yourself.

I will repeat, I did not say "Korn sucks" or ANYTHING like that at all. The first poster said they were musical geniuses and I disagreed. I AM discussing the band. Welcome to the internet.
