I'm not a Korn fan, as I've said twice. But that doesn't give me the urge to be a jerk and post "Korn? PAH! Korn sucks!!" just because someone wants to discuss Korn. There's absolutely no need for it. Let the people who want to discuss Korn discuss Korn and keep your rude one liners to yourself.

Look, I refuse to believe that you were trying to add to the conversation. Just because you didn't say "Korn sucks", you DID say something just as useless. If you had said "I wouldn't say musical geniuses, but" and then gone from there, then I would have nothing to complain about. But two sentences of a derogatory nature with no explanation or reasoning behind them do not a discussion make. You can defend it up and down to me all you'd like, if you must, but I highly doubt you'll convince me of otherwise no matter how hard you try. Sorry, pal.

Also, no one is saying anything like "Let's be serious about this! This is a post of utmost importance!" I'm just asking people to at least try and not be a dick. I don't think that's much to ask.

Also, "oh dear" and quoting "oh dear" fits under rule number one of posting golden rules and falls under the forum rule guidline labelled "Think" found in the sticky at the top of this forum.

My comment was more aimed at pslocum than you MW. With his pointless one word reply it reminds me of a lot of the shit that my band and the bands that i promote get from the few mindless people who call them selves musicians but in reality will get no where without an open mind.

I don't listen to Korn, because they aren't my style of music. So, I won't discuss it, as my opinion would be uninformed. However, when I saw this, I was reminded of a humorous anecdote from my youth that was a bit too open-ended, high-brow and inside for it to probably be of any real comedic value here. I'll give it a go anyway.

When I was younger, I was forced into a Christian high school by my family. My best friend Juice came from similar circumstances. At said school, we were taught to be closed minded, pompous pricks (literally... I recall being justified by my teacher when I called a girl a slut for wearing quarter-length sleeves).

We were at youth camp once, and we saw a kid with a Korn T-shirt on. I pointed it out to Jui. He responded thusly, in the presence of our youth counselor...

It's become something more than a discussion on Korn and once again it's become a discussion of how people on these boards should treat others. And threads like that always get locked before someone gets to lay some rules down on others.

So as it's not locked yet, I'll butt in with some comments. Firstly, about the annoying one liners. When I first saw this post I thought "Korn", okay - well, I'm not really a fan so I won't even bother reading the thread. Then a day later I thought "Unplugged eh? That could be interesting." So I checked it out. And by that point people had already started to mildly cuss Korn. That is pathetic. That is a prime example of some of the people on this forum thinking the rest of us actually give a shit about their completely different opinion. It's the Nefarious (sp) syndrome kicking in, something said that simply should never have been said at all. There are things in this forum that crop up all the time that I disagree too, simply, I just ignore the post. Why can't the rest? ADHD? :

I accept that I'm different to a lot of people here, that I'm more interested in the game making side than the chat-yer-bollocks off side the gen gen forum allows. Eric is right though, about thinking before you post. There is a sense of community we're trying to achieve. And a community is generally a bunch of people who are happy together and share similar views. Not that we have to, but the LEAST we have to do is RESPECT what others think. Dropping in thinking we can be funny with one-liners isn't a great idea. Especially if you've only ever made 30 posts on the forum, Medical Waste.

And as Medical Waste said, "this is the internet, get used to it". Well, you're right - but you're also very wrong. Just because you might be able to contest a friends' view about a band or whatever, would you go up to a bunch of people you don't know and tell them whatever they're talking about is rubbish, or something to that effect? No, you wouldn't. So what gives you the right to do that here? This is a community, not a forum. You can't just blindly tackle peoples views and think they'll be happy with you for it. Therefore there is a certain level of etiquete required from all members.

One thing I don't quite understand is people's constant battle of music and bands. A lot of people take it so seriously it's a real let down. They make out that things like religion shouldn't be allowed to rule peoples lives yet somehow they replace religion with music. Very very sad. You wouldn't rip into someones religion without a very good reason, so why do it with music?

I don't particularly agree with DG's way of going about it either - but that's purely because I expect a bit more from him than just cropping up when he needs to vent some rage about something. But, at least he made a post of it and didn't one liner us all to hell.

So, if you don't have anything constructive to add to this post, just don't bother. If you don't like Korn but gave them a chance, that's great. If however you dislike Korn and you simply want the rest of us to know how much you despise them, feck off!

And please try and consider this with other threads too. I don't think one liners particularly bother people here, only when they are unthoughtful to who the thread is actually aimed at.

C'mon. I find I creative way of saying "Korn is untalented" and that's "rage venting"? I think you're overreacting a little. It has nothing to do with venting rage and everything to do with me not liking Korn.

I was trying to point out that the majority of your posts are rambles about things you dislike At least, the majority of your posts that I've read over the last year are :p And sometimes they do come across as rage venting rants, even if that's what they're not.

No, seriously, though, you've hit the nail on the head with why I even bothered posting in the first place. Even though I don't frequent the forums as much as I used to, it makes me sad to see people lose consideration for each other. I don't want this place to drift further and further away from being an actual community and turn into every other jerk forum on the internet. We're better than that!

As long as people don't resort to namecalling, apparent flaming or insulting for insulting's sake, they're perfectly free to question a statement such as "band X consists of musical geniouses!" without backing it up with loads of music theory.

People will have to tolerate some disagreement in a public forum like this, it's not kindergarten.

And if the goal here is to prevent polemics, I don't think you're doing a good job, Pesty, looking back at the post-progression here.
