There are some quality sitcoms with laugh tracks though.

MASH
Family Ties
Happy Days
I Love Lucy
Frasier

Granted, the laugh track isn't what makes the above shows funny, and I'm sure they can do without the laugh track, but it seems a little discriminating in taste if one disregards a show based on a laugh track.

Incidently, Seanbaby's latest article in about the history of the Laugh Track: http://www.thewavemag.com/pagegen.php?pagename=article&articleid=24803

Yeah, and I really like MASH for example.  The laugh track was just one example, and it's not an automatic blackball or anything.

Jennifer Lopez wasn't in Cube, she was in The Cell...

Thanks.. The Cell.. I haven't seen the cube then.Ã,  You see how I tried to burn the imagery out of my mind.Ã,  Never drink and post, I should've learned that by now by observation.

Thought I'd add a bit on the anime subject while here.  I dislike much of what I've seen but occasionally enjoy a film that either doesn't have the normal anime conventions or is good enough to appeal to me despite them.
I've enjoyed Miyazaki's work, beginning with Spirited Away (which turned me on to the rest, after which Spirited Away became one of my least favorites of his).  I moderately enjoyed Akira, dug Ghost in the Shell and think Cowboy Bebop kicks ass.

I have to adamantly agree about Ninja Scroll though, the movie (at least) is horrid. I've never seen the episodes so can only judge the movie. Since the movie was based upon an already-established character maybe it could've been good with some plot behind it.  Standing alone, it's like watching someone complete a video game in a couple hours.

I personally have nothing against Starship Troopers.. It was one of the first R movies I had seen.

Apparently they're making a lower budget, out-on-video sequel.

Just so I don't come off as some complete Anime-hating bastard, I can easily say that I completely agree with all of those opinions.  The only ways in which I differ are that I saw Mononoke Hime before I saw Spirited Away, and I haven't seen any of the guy's other stuff.  Mononoke was completely awesome, though; definitely better than Spirited Away, which was still cool.  Akira and Ghost in the Shell were both good.  Cowboy Bebop is easily among my favorite anime productions, and it's got one of the most badass soundtracks I've ever heard.  The only other soundtrack I've heard from the composer Yoko Kanno was incredibly uninspiring, but Bebop's is amazing.

Las Naranjas

I may as well mention that I didn't like Mononoke as much as most Miyazaki films.

I mean, the standard is so high that it is still a very good film, but I still found it weaker than any of the others bar Nausicaa [which had obvious problems being based on an unfinished manga], which in some ways it seemed to be a second shot at.

I may check out some of his other films at some point.  Between Spirited Away and Mononoke, I definitely much prefer Mononoke, but I can see reasons for people feeling the opposite way.

It's already out, I saw it yesterday in the video shop. My guess is all the clever military satire will be left out and only the mindless gore and bad acting will remain.

I think they forgot the clever military satire from the first one too...

I love Anime but I agree with that guy who hated Akira : "WTF?!" .

I have a love-hate thing for "Being John Malkovich" . I love the basic idea "hey let's make a movie about what it would be like if you could get inside someone else's head and see things through their eyes and take over their body ...ect. !" ...and although JM is a great actor....why , oh why , JM? He's not very attractive and since there was a shower scene and love making scenes...*shudder*  I'm surprised I didn't have nightmares about the part where they showed him as every person but then again that part was also funny.  Hmmm...I just checked up to see what films he was in because I realized that I didn't know why I stated "he's a great actor" earlier and turns out he's in "Shadow of the Vampire" ,  I've seen that and he did a great job in that so I guess that's why I stated that...I haven't seen those other films he's been in....yet.

I love Magnolia , it was so sad what happened to that child actor and Aimee Mann is a great singer , but I also love it when the actors seem to be singing it instead of AM in that part of the movie.

I love movies like Dune ....I haven't read the book...yet...but I'm usually not the type to go "I like the book better" anyway.
Even though I can see how things like the movie "IT" can be called worse than the book , I think it's a cool movie and does scare a bit ( clowns scare me... ) even though some of the effects _are_ crappy...but it's a "so bad it's good / funny" sort of cheesy-crappy thing to me.

I love alot of the movies that others don't like , I think Bedazzled is hilarious and The Ring is exciting and scary.

Sorry for mostly talking about movies I love , I can't really think of many movies I hate other than ones I've already chatted about.

Sorry to make this post longer but I wanted to express more about my feelings towards Disney and Anime and its so-called fans , ect.  ...I know I could've just started a new topic but I've already made too many posts as it is for somebody who hasn't finished a game or been much help with somebody else's game yet.
"Sprited Away" : Great film. I didn't think I'd care too much about it at first even though it was Anime because I'd never heard of it before ....It's odd enough to be interesting to both adults and children but it's not adult the way "Labyrinth of Flames" is which makes it a good "kiddie" film.
Over in Japan , Anime/Manga is considered an art form. I do not know of any series that didn't start out as a Manga. If a Manga gets popular enough , then they go ahead and work on getting an Anime deal. I think maybe the reason that Anime is so hard to get accepted by some people is because it's soooo Japanese , even when it's been translated via sub or dub , I think some people still just don't get it. Like , comics over here are mostly about beefy superheros and sexed out superfemales , but in Japan they have something for nearly everyone. There's even some Manga that focus mainly on fashion or idol singing , ect. but can still make for a fun read.  There's alot of "in jokes" that most Americans might not get right away. A nose bleed indicates perverted thoughts /  erection.  The strange little Red marks a character might get when they're upset about something indicates anger.
I myself still don't get what's so funny about a snot bubble for when characters are sleeping but that's just another example of the humour in Japanese animation and comics.
Stuff like pleated skirts and "tube socks" or whatever are a Japanese thing because it's the school outfit over there...if I remember correctly , they looked to Europe and some other places for ideas about uniforms...they chose sailor outfits and I can't remember what else but I think German outift was also a choice at sometime. When the Kogals were still "in" , they often wore their school outfits to be cute even though they didn't really go to school 'cause they were mostly only cared about fashion and fun.
For some reason , most Anime "fans" hate Disney with a passion ...I guess they believe that Disney steals ideas or something just because Kimba and Simba just happen to have alot in common. *rolls eyes* Anyway , the fans even fight amongst themselves...and when that happens it's about which is better : Subbed or dubbed? This one article / post put it best : Some "purists" would say neither because they watched Anime back when you'd have to get it imported or something and they weren't even being subbed back then.
Labyrinth of Flames is great if you don't mind naughty / extreme humour , if you're usually against Anime , maybe something like this will change your mind , I think it's hilarious.
Even though I do love alot of the "mainstream" shows like Pokemon , (which by the way is only stupid because of the American company's fault...it's gotten dumbed down alot but I've seen some of the original stories and it's not as kiddish as people may think it is..Alot of Anime gets dumbed down due to American companies so if you judge it all because you think it's "kiddish" then you should think again...they don't always show you the good stuff but I think things finally changed over time and due to the real fans and the companies that seem to actually care about Anime instead of just trying to make a profit...well ...just saying there's good Anime out there and you just have to work to find it but please don't write it all off as "kid's" or "girly" stuff ) ,  hmm...Oh , as I was stating...I love the not so well known stuff too like Pet Shop of Horrors ...Birdy The Mighty...Labyrinth of Flames...Capricorn....Dragon Half....adult stuff.... Angelique...ect.  I haven't actually seen some of the titles I listed yet but I already like them because of the stuff I've seen online about them.
Sorry for any spelling errors and bad sentences ....*sighs*
Thanks Ryukage for bringing up other points , I totally forgot for a while that some people may complain about Anime due to whole "hey that guy looks girly!" thing. It's a female fan thing. Most girly guys ( bishonen "beautiful boy" or some such thing is the actual terminology ) are made by women.  CLAMP for example is an all female art team. That's why so many of the guys drawn by CLAMP look the way they do : Alot of women consider it sexy , cute , and funny.  If you don't like girly guys then look for another Anime. Simple , eh?  ;) :P ;D
Oh , and in just in case somebody didn't get it / missed it :
I love Disney _and_ Anime.

"But I think people shouldn't dismiss the whole of either genre on the basis of a few films." Agreed.
Even though I can't think of any Disney film that I just absolutely hated right now ,
I can think of some Anime that I can't stand.
But I still watch both.

"As for Pixar, I love their films. I think their characters are probably the most expressive 3D creations I've seen. I found them more realistic than the blank, emotionless faces of the Final Fantasy movie. But that's just my opinion." Don't worry , DG. Alot of the true Anime / FF fans hate the movie too. I still haven't seen the whole thing but from what I heard the darn thing doesn't even follow the game very closely so it's hated by people like me.  I love Pixar and it really saddens me that Squaresoft got into and keeps getting into 3D when it's obvious that they aren't very good at it. I've also seen at least one Final Fantasy animated ( no 3D ) movie and it bit the big one too but at least that Anime was closer to the game series than that 3D movie.

"And as for the whole debate on whether anime is a genre or whatever, I tend to think that Western culture has placed it into a genre (which is fine by me cause it helps me find anime quicker in the DVD store). But, I am aware of the cultural differences and the conventions. People have said they hate a lot of the conventions. However, the conventions are based on Japanese culture. And sometimes it's difficult to understand different cultures because we rely so heavily on our own." *nod* Wether or not it's "meant" to be a genre , I count it as one ...I didn't even consider that maybe I should be ashamed of that until now but I still think of myself as a "true" Anime fan. I think for reasons I've mentioned already and the fact that so many so-called fans are just in it because they see the style and are like "oh that's cool" but they don't take the time to research it and all and then there's the idiots that go out in cosplay even though they look hideous and stupid and lastly the freaking "purists" who gripe out people like me just because they think they're soooo smart.....THOSE type of "fans" are making the rest of us look bad. You know what they say about one bad apple spoiling the whole bunch.  ( or rather...in this case a bunch of bad apples spoiling the grove or whatever...arrr..you get what I mean...right? ) *sighs*
And then there's people that may act like my brother and write off all Anime as Hentai. *rolls eyes*

Whoops , I think I made a mistake. I haven't actually seen "Ringu" yet but because "The Ring" is based on it and I've seen it , I did consider it exciting and scary. Then again it's been a while since I've seen it , but the stuff I remember from it is pretty freaky.

Sorry if you consider yourself a purist when it comes to Anime , I'm not talking about anybody here since that would be stupid ...I barely know anybody here but I'm just saying that people who don't consider me a real Anime fan and act like they know more than me ...people like that tick me off. I realize that I may come off with the purist type attitude myself sometimes but I try not to , sorry if you feel I have a "I know sooo much more than you so I don't consider you an Anime fan" sort of attitude. I do not mean to come off that way since that is the sort of thing that ticks me off.  I'm just telling you all that right now because I wanted to make sure people understood that I'm not judging anybody here...but if you make it personal and insult me about things ( I know there's still alot I don't know about Anime and Japan but I shouldn't have to know every little thing but I know alot and just because I love the mainstream stuff ...it does not mean I'm not a real Anime fan if I like mainstream stuff because I also like the not so well known Anime )  then I feel I would have every right to consider you the bad type of purist if you know what I mean.  Sorry this is so long and if I left anything out. I keep feeling like I might be forgetting something...
