These are the first positive posts I've seen regarding PSP 8, I've never used it but most of the PSP users I know seemed quite dissatisfied and many are sticking to PSP 7.

As I said I haven't used it myself, I use Photoshop 7.

Peter Thomas

really??

well..... as I said, I never got a chance to use it extensively, but I thought it was pretty good from what I saw.

My friend reckons it's great, though. A bit strange to 'learn' (don't ask me what he meant by that... I didn't think it was really all that different), but good.

Go figure, heh?

There's also now Photoshop CS which is PS8, I don't know if anyone has it, just thought I'd mention it if people weren't aware.

What's with these trends of adding 2 more letters like Macromedia MX, does this marketing work? what's wrong with just a new version number, do the extra letters make it any better, It's just like cars now, who the fuck knows what the extra letters really mean (I guess just different models), or are they just trying to scam us in another way, We're not that stupid are we?

MrColossal

to me MX is a new swear word as the new Flash MX and Dreamweaver MX are shittake to the Xtreme

Are they bad cause of the interface, or is it just the programs itself? cause I remember a couple of years ago Macromedia had to change the interface because they lost a court battle with Adobe for stealing their interface.

I use Fireworks MX, I originally used it for web design, but it works as a normal paint type program with layers too, probably doesn't quite have the features of Photoshop, but it has enough for me. I'm not as good with Photoshop cause I haven't used it for a few years now (v5.5) and I'm much more familiar with Fireworks, I quite like using it.

I'd like to learn Flash again too, but I haven't played around with it since version 3, I have Flash Mx, but I've never actually used it, is it much like 3?

MrColossal

it's not much like 3 at all

you'll be all "wha?!" when you try

it's been much more of a struggle for me to relearn flash than it was for me to teach myself photoshop's new stuff from 5.5 to 7

the way Flash MX handles things just seems pretty assbackwards to me and even though the most complex thing i've done are the digi-helm and digi-cj things i can't for the life of me figure out how to make them in flash mx

I use PSP 7. I got PSP 8 too, but I don't like it. The interface is really weird. I also have PS 7, but I don't use that either.

I was just thinking the same thing! More examples include Windows XP...um...that's abot it.

Maybe CJ should try that. Once he hits 3.0, just change it to "Adventure Game Studio LMNOPXYZ3½". I know I'd definitely buy it...if it were for sale...

I tried PSP 8, but I use the keyboard.  Once I learned the new shortcuts, I found that it took longer than PSP7 to do stuff in the menu.  For instance, ALT-C, I, 6 to increase to 16million colors instead of ALT-I, C, I, 6.

That happened alot!  I think you can change the menu but I'll just wait for someone else to do it.  I have both 7 and 8 installed so when I went back to 7 I had to first open 8, then Batch Convert the files to PSP7 compatible format (Cuz 7.04 doesn't read version 8 files).

Animation was not updated but Animation Shop 3 came with my PSP8 download.  I purchased it on Digital River.

I use Flash MX a lot for work and it's very easy to use now with the new ActionScript.  You can do ANYTHING, but first learn ActionScript. IE if you have 4 images and you want to click on a bar in the middle, and a circle mask opens up to show one of the 4 images, you just create 4 'movies' in your FLA, each one shows the image, then a circle eats away at it from the center.

Finally you have to write the ActionScript to play each of the different movie sequences.  It was harder to do this in Flash 4 or Flash 5.

Most absolutely ... just try to make a simple button with a mouseover animation in MX. Flash5: breeze, FlashMX: brickwalluptherectum.
