Adventure Game Ethic!

I wrote an article about something I call the 'Adventure Game Ethic' over at adventure classic gaming. It's mostly about the sort of DIY/independent meme that adventure games plant into the heads of players, and sort of explains why there's this huge groundswell of independently made games. Plus, it also talks a bit about the 'death' of the adventure game and all that other goodness.

I think it would interest most people here, so check, check, check it out. And if doesn't interest you click 'back'.  ;)

Nice article.Ã,  I found it interesting and yes, even quite uplifting :)

Nice article, but how can you write all that about Sierra and barely even mention the existence of LucasArts? I'm not going to argue about which is better, but several innovations (such as mouse drivers and multicharacter adventures) were first seen at Lucas.

You don't have to argue with me about the value of Lucasarts. They didn't do, overall, as much for the adventure game as Sierra did, but really took it to its peak (non-linear storylines, not-dying, multiple dialogue options, subversive humour, excellent command interface). They were really the only company to up Sierra at its own game and, in the long run, the two will be remembered as the 'creators' of the adventure game.

But, the article was only so long, so I had to keep it short and simple. Also, Sierra really created the game as it was and still is, for the most part, today. If you're going to talk about the ethic, as I see it, I really think that was due to Sierra, more than Lucasarts. The adventure games from LucasArts more embody the thinking of their creators (Tim Schafer, Ron Gilbert, etc...) more than the company.

But, I've been invited to write another article, so maybe I'll be able to cover something along those lines next time!

I love the observation that we saved just before the adventure game died.

Its a nice article I am just thinking that regardless of adventures being non existant in the commercial space, it doesnt worry me I dont care.

I love to see that corporate companies want to make knock off games to have a nice profit margin. Its healthy for the company providing us our other highly required dose of well some other original titles. ;)

Yeah whatever...

However the point I am trying to make is that and I cant say it any better than another post i read in the forum...

(I am lost to find where i saw that post) said something about blame your generation for setting the standards...

The morons buying the crap that is produced tried to kill adventure games, the only real games with substance etc...

Its like feeding pigeons you feed one today and the whole flock comes and craps on your porch looking for food...

Godamn n0bs... I mean n00bs
