When I read this story I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. It's just so darn funny. But what do you think of it? I can't comment anymore, its just caracking me up.

I'm not sure what funny about someone getting shot? Ok, the set up is a bit amusing if not confusing, at least for the police it is.

they've obviously been playing too much doom :)

Quote"They were actually instructed by the butcher to shoot them and salvage what meat they could and take it back to him," Boyes said.

"We're still trying to determine the identity of the butcher."

That's what I find most odd. Why would they salvage the cow and not the butcher?

That and the sawed off shotgun. To kill a cow?

Canadians think they're so much smarter than Americans, and they mock Americans for their lack of.. erm- judgment- but this goes to show that Canadians are just as half-witted, if not moreso. I think those guys were trying to make a Canadian version of the Virginian massacre- except with cows. And why would they need to determine the identity of the butcher?? So they could put him on trial as a scapegoat or something? It baffles me how stupid people can be sometimes.

well they probably want to identify the butcher so he can confirm whether or not he employed them go shoot his cows (you'd have to be pretty dumb yourself to have not worked that out  ;))
it probably was just an accident, guns don't have any way of telling whether you meant to pull the trigger or not, they just wanna shoot shit.

Actually I believe they need the identity of the butcher because hiring thugs to hunt down your escaped cow is illegal.  You're probably supposed to notify some kind of animal control at the very least.   I can't speak for Canadian law personally, but it seems more logical than putting an ad in the paper for "cow on the loose! NEED cow hunter.  must have own equipment."

I know that. The article made it sound like they were the butcher's cows, and so it wouldn't be illegal for him to have them killed.

Even still I'm pretty sure without notifying someone it would be illegal.  What if they shot some kids playing in a field on accident?  or themselves...oh wait, right.  They don't exactly allow random people here to go hunt down deer or anything without some kind of permit for that very reason.

But they allow a man to butcher his own cow... Like the guy who shot his cow on Napoleon Dynamite. :D

yeh only that wasn't a real butcher, and the cow didn't actually get shot. it wasn't even a real shotgun. oh, and the movie is set in america and not canada. plus, you know, it's just a movie.
but apart from that you're SO right. :D
