It might not be because of PC stuff, though, Darth. I mean, you'd have to have ESP to read the mind of Hollywood producers.

Perhaps, they are casting Beyonce to be a little diffferent and attract attention so people will go see the movie.

I remember they did that in GoldenEye where they cast Judi Dench as 'M' (in the past was a male role).

I think they do that to be a little different. I mean, people would get bored with the same old interpretation of Superman.

It's like what Delroy Lindo said in Get Shorty: "Where's it say in the script that the man has to be white? Color's what the part needs, man!"

I don't mind that change, as Douglas Adams had never said that anyone is black, white or purple, unlike what has been established in the Superman universe where Lois is white...

Now, if Adams was alive, as long as the actor is good in Ford Prefects role, then I think he'd approve... and Mos Def is a good actor...

Ok then, by that reasoning, why are we even here on some little internet forum making little computer games that will never sell? It pisses me off everytime another badly done movie based on a comic or a book comes out because people have it in their power to do it well, but they screw it up on purpose to get a particular actor/singer's fanbase to see the movie, or to be "wacky" and "zany" and "change it up a bit", or to make it a "kiddy" movie, or any one of about a million other retarded reasons.

Spiderman didn't turn out to be an awful movie, but there were little stupid, STUPID things they changed that didn't have to be chaged at all. That's quite possibly the most annoying thing. When someone obviously knows what they're doing and how something should be done, but they then change one little basic fact for no good reason.

I agree that we do indulge in things (like Ags, as you suggested), but no one would ARGUE that it is insignificant. Your post seemed to suggest that Superman IS important, when, really, it's not. I think what (whoever you quoted) was getting at was: it's insignificant so get over it, so don't worry about trying to defend/rebut it.

I'm not saying you aren't entitled to an opinion, but to say it's "important" what colour of skin the character is - that's a bit unfair.

Can you see that when you're dealing with a comic that doesn't have to stick to a certain length and a movie that must it would make sense to condense characters? Can you see that a highschool kid devising some awkward "spiderweb" solution at home on his own is actually pretty stupid? This is the spiderman movie, that is the spiderman comic. They aren't the same thing and when dealing with the different mediums you have to change things. The Green Goblin died also... That doesn't upset you? Why did he die? Because the movie [unlike the comic] had to end. And I really wish they'd end the comic too.

Sully, I think you mean Gwen Stacey when it comes to Spidermans first love interest. And the web shooters were changed to be caused by being bitten by the spider when James Cameron was on board and he wrote the script (its the only thing that survived all the adaptions). Cameron figured that a kid not even out of High School would probably not be able to create a super adhesive that was so strong that it could withstand everything that Spidey did, when the worlds top scientists couldn't... and also, he thought that no High School kid would be able to create a device to shoot that same adhesive...

Good point(s).Ã,Â I commented on that earlier (sort of) about casting her in an attempt to widen the audience base.Ã,Â Which, I agree, does make sense from a financial POV.

I don't [always] mind a woman playing a previously male part, or a black guy replacing a previously white role.Ã,Â It sometimes seems like it's done for the wrong reasons ... like they're trying to ethnically balance the movie or something and I find that irritating.

I also agree that if they're going to put a black woman as Lois, they should pick a better actress.Ã,Â I gotta go with Peter Thomas on this one, I just can't stand Bouncie.

Anyways.. Movies and comics are two different worlds.. In a comic, you can drag the same topic on for 8 years, and people will still read it.. You can introduce, kill, and make people dissapear in a comic, and no-one will bat an eye.. But in a movie, you have strict contraints of time, money, and interest. So of course, compromises have to be made, and fanboys will be upset.

That's life, live with it.

There's really no point bitching about something you can't change on a forum that nobody important reads.

Probably beating a dead horse, but where in any of the books does it say that Ford Prefect is white? My point was simply that they could at least TRY to audition a woman that LOOKS like the original Lois Lanes. I mean, Teri Hatcher (looks-wise) was a good choice for the role. Beyonce, whether white or black I could care less, does not make a believable Lois Lane.

Let me get a word in about these rumors.

Contraversy worked VERY well for Mel Gibson and "Passion Of the Christ." Despite LOADS of negative criticism, the movie raked in tons and tons of money at the box office.

Likewise, these "Supes" casting rumours could be trying to stir up contraversy and therefore publicity just the same. And here we all are going crazy and yelling "WHY ON EARTH WOULD THEY CAST A BLACK LOIS?!! PC PC PC!"
