Penny Arcade's PC game is out!

Apparently it's part point-and-click adventure and part (mostly) Final Fantasy-style active timed battle combat. Wired.com's review: http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/05/review-penny-ar.html

It looks pretty awesome, and it'll come in several episodes. I've downloaded the demo but I haven't had the time yet to try it out.

I've been told that Penny Arcade is reportedly not just amazingly awesome-great, but the most bestestestestestestestestest web comic of all time ever made ever. So I've heard.

I was interested in checking out the game which the website says is available for download to the Xbox 360, but couldn't find it in the game store. I was actually hoping for a playable demo first.

Maybe for now I'll just read the comic and find out what this thing is about. And what Logan's been on about.

I was on the fence about it, but after playing the demo I love it!

The whole Steampunk mood is great and the art is amazing. Some of the best cel-shading I've seen in a game. And ofcourse the dialogues are hilarious, true Penny Arcade style.

They did a good job.

The demo was definitely fun, and the game gets a big plus from me for the linux version. I had no trouble playing it on our linux boxes (tried it on two of them just for the heck of it), even though there are tons of reports of graphics and audio problems. The game is quirky and well written as expected and it looks good as well. I'm not a fan of the timed fighting system though.

Precipice goes on the long list of games I'd like to buy as soon as I have time to play them. There are some AGS-based adventure games way higher on the list of course.

I heard its $20 on the xbox market place.I think thats a little outrageous for an Xbox live arcade game.

Whoever told you this is wrong. And I'm a man who reads a lot of webcomics.

Penny Arcade's not bad, probably the best of the videogamey comics (apart from Powerup Comics obviously.) And I totally respect what they do outside of the comic itself - this game doesn't look too bad, for example, and I'm gonna check it out.

It's not too bad, just not my cup 'o' tea I guess? Don't get me started on Ctrl-Alt-Del though...

Back when there was Official Playstation Magazine, I used to read one Penny Arcade per week, and I always loved their ridiculous views on video games, geeks, and the geek universe.

I've been keeping an eye on the game, mainly due to its Linux compatibility.

I checked out the XBox Live Arcade Trial version today, it was okay, but not sure i really want to get the full version.

I didn't think it was that much fun IMO.

after that, went back to GTA4.

I tried the demo and it was packed to the tits with style and a very slick presentation. When I saw my 3d character in the 2d scenes I was shocked that they even bothered!

The humor in the narrator was great and it was pretty looking but I don't know if the game play is compelling enough to keep me playing. I also was really ready to start playing in their world, with the 20s feel and the dark setting and then... A fruit fucking robot. Felt too much like cramming a popular character into the game. Oh well, I wish them major luck because I'm a fan of the production values and I hope they can help prove if episodic gaming is a good idea or not.

I downloaded the demo for PC and started playing it, but as soon as I customize a couple of attributes for my character, the game locks up.

Anybody know how to fix this?

i just tried out the Xbox 360 demo after finding it, it doesn't appear under demos but the game is listed under all games and from there you can download the demo.
it seems an okay game from the demo, dunno if i'd buy it though as it's not really my kind of game even if i do like the comic.

Apparently the ability (and necessity) to block enemy attacks forks up the whole battle system, according to most reviews I've read. Can't say I noticed it too much in the demo.

The presentation is very nice, though, and probably the games greatest strength. The humour is typical Penny Arcade, which, depending on your personal tastes, is either a good thing or a bad thing.

Not too sure about the gameplay.

Precisely. When I saw that they took the time to dynamically insert a 2D version of my 3D character into the scenes, I must admit I was impressed. Probably not nearly as difficult as it might sound, but still enough to make me go, "Wow, that's my guy!"

I've only recently started reading the web comic, and it seems okay. As a matter of fact though I was going to say that I found the demo (listed as "Penny Arcade" wtf!

) and that if the humor in the game is even remotely a good indicator of the newer comic strips that I'm pretty sold. For example when the narrator says:

Much more jocularity can be found in the blog posts attached to the comics (accessible via the 'news'-icon under the images). These posts also provide helpful context for the comics in case you -- like me -- are easily perplexed by the game references.

Just completed it. It was pretty good, enjoyed the style more than the gameplay (or anything else) really.
I'll be downloading the other episodes when they are out though.

If I had an Xbox 360, cared about new game releases, were willing to pay more than a maximum of â,¬5 for a game, could stand episodic gameplay and really, really liked Penny Arcade, I'd probably buy it.

That said... meh.

Happily the console is not a requirement, as should be apparent from the thread. The game is also available for Mac, Linux and Windows. The price is admittedly a bit high for a shortish game.
