Captain Mostly

I'm sure someone else has already spotted this and made a thread, but I can't find it.

I was very impressed to see UK PCGamer have a whole box in one of the articles devoted to Plugheburge: Dark ages!!! Well done gaspop.

If only they'd mentioned AGS...

I wonder if this'll reslut in a newbie boom? Probably not.

Yeah a friend told me about this. He sent me a scan from the magazine:

WOW. That is an impressive review! I have to admit the first few lines were a bit...insulting...but I guess they made up for it. Police Quest/Gabriel Knight AGI days? I will have to pick up that AGI version of Gabriel Knight sometime :P.

81%, that sounds pretty awesome ;D. Congrats Chrille!

Nice one Chrille, 81% is very impressive - not least when it's from a mainstream gaming magazine, where you wouldn't expect them to remember adventure games. Good work :)

Way to go! Congrats Chrille!

What surprises me is that what is overall a very positive review, they compare it to Gabriel Knight and Police Quest, and PCG UK are notorious for hating Sierra's point-and-clicks (though they love LucasArts - the last time a bought an issue which had a 'Best 100 Games EVER!'-type feature in it, GF was at no. 8, and DOTT, S&M, FOA and the MI games were all dotted around at fairly respectable positions - for a mag which mostly seems to favour emergent game design, that's most impressive indeed).  OK, so GK (the original, that is) is pretty much their only exception to this rule, but they certainly never seemed to like Police Quest.

Anywho - is this the current issue, Mostly?  I've been looking for an excuse to start buying it again (even though I hear Gillen has left) and this small box in one of the articles will do nicely.

Hey, that's great! Nice to see an amateur game get some attention - And Pleurghburg is definately worth all attention it can get.  Nicely, nicely.

Chrille - you mean they didn't even contact you to tell you they were putting your game in the magazine?

You deserve it...althought I wouldn't say the first sight of the game was that bad.

Lol I just found that article, how cool is that.

:D Congratulations Chrille :D

UK PCgamer gets all the fun...
Anyway, that's impressive! Even big-budget commercial games usually fail to get an 81% (assuming that the UK system is the same as the US one)

Hehe, there's about 50 of those ;).

Enter the Matrix being one of those big games that failed to get 81%.  In fact i think it only got 61% or 71%, i forgot :P

Oh well, now Chrille can say his game is better than Enter the Matrix ^_^

65%, methinks - I recall that Red Faction and Hitman both scored in the 50s, as well (though with Hitman the reviewer was careful to mention that the game clearly had a lot of talent put into it, but was just so ludicrously unfair that it was impossible to rate it any higher).

Wondeful. Maybye now Games Companies will realise what sort of games get 81% in PC Gamer.  :P

Captain Mostly

yes, it's the latest issue...

when I was in London, I saw a copy of Issue 50 of PCGamer in a news agents, right at the front of the magazine rack, with a picture of Bladerunner the game on the front as though it was still not only valid, but really exciting and cutting edge. I pondered buying it as a joke, but then decided that it wasn't really worth it.

Maybe I should have checked to see if it was one that I'd had a letter printed in...

Interestingly, while I had a seriese of letter printed as Captain Mostly(along side a "letter of the month" during one of the monthes where there was no letter-of-the-month prize grrrrr) and perhaps a couple under my real name, my ultra-catholic friend had one printed as Captain Muchly, and was terribly pleased with himself. I forget what his was about...

Ok. It's not very interesting. Get off my case!

BOYD1981

the letter i saw was about Richard Longhurst, i'll have to look through my other issues for more...
you know, i'd kill for PC Gamer issue 50, i'll give you £10 if you go back to london and buy it for me!
