Even though he was not active for some time anymore, he was still a highly valued member of the community. He delighted us with tons of games and wonderful drawings as well as being just a great guy. I am glad that I had the pleasure to collaborate with him on a few occasions.

I like to believe that he is indeed a ghost now, watching us while baking cakes and arranging furniture in a RAM house.

Farewell, Ghost!

Tabata

It's an honor to have known him and incredibly sad that we've lost him.

Cassiebsg

That is indeed very sad news. Hope that he's at peace now.
I'm happy to have had the opportunity to meet and interact with him, even if only online.
There are those who believe that life here began out there...

Stupot

That is really sad to hear. Goodbye, dude. It was a treat to have known you and played your games.

Slasher

I can't believe it!

RIP my dear friend....

CaptainD

Oh no! Such sad news.

Tycho Magnetic Anomaly

I am very sorry to hear this,  thoughts going out to his family and friends

Eulogy for Ghost

Once upon a time
You found yourself
In art
And adventure games

You are a Ghost,
The chance of the dead
To be alive
With your blue cup friends

Once upon a crime
You were taken from us
But you will stay with us
In our hearts
Through your art
And adventure games

Farewell, Ghost

Creamy

I didn't know him well but I loved his games. He seemed very nice.

Snarky

Oh man, that's really sad to hear.
He had such talent and skill, and contributed a lot to the AGS community, even if he would leave for extended periods. I didn't really know him, but it was always good to see him around.

I hope at the end he could look back on a life that was more good than bad, more joy than pain. And I'm sure he'll live on in the memory of his family, friends, and those of us lucky enough to have had a chance to experience his work.

bicilotti

I will never forget the excitement in sharing projects, ideas, suggestions, plots for our games, plans for our lives, GUIs, betas, drawings, dreams.
I will never forget the affectionate words as a friend, the encouraging ones as a mentor. I will never forget your stories: sweet, somber, delicate, deep and touching.

The regret of not having met you in real life is immense.

Haggis

Sorry to hear this, I didn't know him that well but he was a member of the AGS Cavefish group helping others finish their games. Seemed a really nice guy, adventure on Ghost.

Sinitrena

He haunted the forums for many years.
Now he haunts in other realms.
Rest in Peace, Ghost.
:~(

Retro Wolf

A great guy and a talented artist. Rest in peace mate.

Mandle

Oh no! I knew him only through our PM conversations but his great comments and kind sense of humour always made me smile. So sad to hear this. A depressing way to end a depressing year.

Vincent

Words cannot express what I'm feeling right now, the body is but an outer covering for the soul.
The reality is the soul which never dies, but just changes form. So, we know that in some way, you will always be here around us.
I am reading all your messages that we have written to each other back in 2014, you have taught me a lot of things about Ags that I am still treasuring all your words.
All of this it cuts to my heart, words cannot express my condolences to the entire household. Rest in peace my friend.

LimpingFish

That's such sad news.

Besides our forum interactions, I had the pleasure of chatting with him over Steam on a number of occasions, and he seemed like a genuinely lovely person and a very talented guy.

Such sad news so close to the end of the year! It was a pleasure playing your sweet games and chatting with you, no matter of here or on deviant art. I always enjoyed your work and your words. farewell my friend, rest in piece :(

So sad to lose such a friend and a mentor. I'll never forget our many fine conversations, so many discussions of ideas, plans and goals. You were a great man, my friend. Thanks for everything.

Ponch

Very sad news. RAM Ghost is still one of my favorite non-adventure AGS games. He was always up to chat about game and puzzle ideas or just to share doodles. He will be missed.

Plus he made a RAM ghost wearing a cow costume.  :cheesy:

AprilSkies

A really sad news. I fondly remember Ghost and how pleasant it was to chat with him. A great artist and programmer, one of the nicest and kindest members of the community.

Ghost was a very talented person that left too soon. I have never talked to you, but I have looked up to everything you built. I saw this thread when it went up, I knew the name from the template I am using for my games. Farewell.

rongel

Same here, I never talked with Ghost, but I'm using his template. When I started working with AGS it was extremely helpful. I've understood that Ghost was an important and beloved part of the community. RIP.

I think I have never talked with him (?). Can you suggest some of his games?

I still love Chance Of The Dead. The walkcycle and the giggle of the main character - a zombie - are hilarious.

I am unable to write a blurb but maybe it would be a game worth to become the next 'pick of the month' ... in loving memory of our beloved family member, friend and mentor?

Once Upon A Crime is a very good one, too ... and there are others

arj0n

Such sad news. Had many fine conversations about (making) games but also a lot about real life.
A truly kind person has left us. Hope you found your peace now, buddy!  :~(

Frodo

So sorry to hear this sad news.

I never really knew him - think I only spoke to him a couple of times.  But he was indeed very talented.

I especially loved his game Chance Of The Dead.

And his posts in here shows what a kind guy he was.

My heart goes out to all his family and friends.

Tabata, I support that idea.
Possible blurb for Chance Of The Dead (unless someone else can think of something better)?
What's that strange shuffling sound you can hear outside your window?
Why are things in you kitchen being moved around?
Where's that cake you left on the kitchen surface?
Don't worry, you're not going crazy.  It's just the dead looking for another chance.

cat

Thanks, Tabata and Frodo - great idea and done!

Kastchey

I wish I knew Ghost better, such a sweet and kind person.

abstauber

Incredibly sad news indeed. I still remember when I found his homepage about "Daemons in the Attic" and just a a year or so later he decided to use AGS and joined the forums. And it makes me very sad that his unfinished work will never be finished anymore.
He was truly a great artist and game designer.

RIP Björn, I will miss you.

Baron

This is a sad day indeed.  :~(

ManicMatt

I see he was making a game called Collateral Jelly, which I presume wasn't finished. It would be nice if possible, if someone reached out to his family and obtained the code etc for his game, and try and make it a more or less complete game and release it.

I don't know if that's something he'd want, but I know it's something I'd want if I died before finishing a project and it had a decent amount made.

Did Ghost make the BASS style template that comes with AGS? I am currently using that for my latest work.

Same here, and his work helped me a lot in mine.

I was also following him on Deviantart, and his pictures of fairies and mermaids were always a joy to behold, and it's a terrible shame that he left so suddenly and so soon.

Rest in peace, Ghost.

Same here. At the very least, I'd want all of the project files to be released, so that perhaps someone somewhere could either finish it off, or at least admire what I had done.
But that's just me.

I'd feel the same, at least if I knew people would try and finish the original vision. Wouldn't most artists want their work shared?

dactylopus

Wow, this is such a shame.  I never knew Ghost beyond his forum posts and such, but always admired him and his work.  He had a unique vision and a great talent.  I always felt he would be someone in the community that I'd like to meet and share a few words with.

So sad.  I send my best to all who knew him, especially his friends and family.

shaun9991

Extremely sad news. Ghost will always be a legend in the AGS community. My thoughts go out to all his family and friends.

RIP Ghost.

Dave Gilbert

I just read this. So sad to hear. I haven't chatted with him in a long time, but I was a big fan of his art and we once discussed collaborating on something together. RIP. :(

Laura Hunt

I never interacted with him, but he seemed to be very much loved in this community. But a close family member of mine happened to pass away on the same day and everything around those days was a bit of a blur, so I never got around to posting my condolences here in due time. I'm truly sorry for your loss, all of you who were close to him.

Icey

It's been a while since I've checked into the forums and it's sad to come back and see that a member has passed on. For some reason I had the push to check out my messages (I guess it's been so long that I forgot there was a game he helped me out on. I wanted to go read messages for it but what I came across was something even better, yet bittersweet).

It was really uplifting and motivating to look back on this message. While I have switched to pretty much primarily doing videos now and I know he did like the last video I shared here, it makes me wish I actually had finished that one game so he could have gave it a try.   :~(

RIP Ghost and thanks for the good vibes, mate. Hopefully one day I can actually finish that game.

Stupot

Hi Icey. Man, what a great message. We should all aspire to be as encouraging and thoughtful as this. What a loss.

kconan

This is awful news.  He was a super talented gamemaker and artist, and a great person...RIP Ghost.

Crap!  If only I had known sooner...

Man, another great, gone.

Igor Hardy

Very sad to learn about this. :~( The look of Once Upon a Crime was one of the iconic AGS images in my memory.

miguel

Hello guys, just want to express my sadness regarding Ghost's passing away.

In truth Ghost (Bjoern) was important in my life in ways that only now I understand.

Some of you may remember me from the forums, I was a bit of  a arrogant prick, a person I'm not proud of, although I now understand it was part of growing up as a person which I did and therefore am capable to show up and man-up to the occasion. For anyone that cares, I apologize.

But this isn't about me. Back then I'd already left the forums and game-making, I had a young kid and decided to become a artist, a painter.
Ghost was this guy that I could talk regularly about a few things, about his art, my art, the forum and people here.
He was so kind and polite. Always.
Ghost was very supportive of my art and always encouraging me and saying that I could make it and was very talented, all things that I didn't actually believed because my confidence was not very high.
Then, in 2014, we decided to change portraits, we would swap photos and each would paint a portrait of the other in the medium we wanted.
I was working with pastels at the time, just before starting with oil paints and so I did it. A portrait of Ghost shipped to Germany and Ghost loved it.
Strangely I found Ghost's confidence a bit faded then and he never sent me my portrait although he said he had done it with his Magic Pixels.
We kept talking once in a while, less and less I admit. Life takes turns and we all have our different lives.

Anyway, what I sad discovery I made today reading this topic. Such a gentle person deserves a place in Pixel Heaven. Rest in peace my friend.

Working on a RON game!!!!!

Stupot

Nice to see you again, Miguel, though I wish it were under different circumstances. I hope you’ll pop in more from time to time.

Mandle

Miguel, that is an absolutely beautiful portrait and obviously done from the heart!

(When can we expect part 2 of The Roots Of Sound? Damn, I loved that game!)

miguel

Hi there Stupot and Mandle, nice to speak with you guys.
No more game-making for me, but this forums will always be part of who I am so I tend to check it out from time to time.
Let's honor Ghost, probably one of the last good guys.
Working on a RON game!!!!!

OneDollar

It's been a while since I last checked the forums, so I missed this. I saw a tweet about Ghost being remembered at the AGS awards this year.

It's very sad news. I didn't know him particularly well, but we talked a few times and discussed collaborating on a game. He was a lovely, friendly guy who always had positive things to say about people's work. Also a talented game developer and artist in his own right.

Atelier

I am sorry to bump this but that is a fruit of my itinerant ways. Miguel, you needn't apologise :)

Ghost, I remember you as one of the first AGSers I interacted with. I would wonder from time to time what you were up to, and how you were doing. I have been through our PMs together, and your words of encouragement and kindness are just extraordinary. Had they not been so at such early stages, it is quite possible that I would not have grown the interests I have now. Although I never met you, this news has made me truly sad. Thank you so very much.

vertigoaddict

Ghost had always been such an embedded presence within the community, it's hard to imagine. Condolences to his family and friends.

Cyrus

Wow, I saw this thread only now, so sorry for bumping it. We were not close friends with Ghost, but I've been a huge fan of his games (especially Once Upon A Crime), and we chatted in private a bit back in the old years, so it's a real pity to hear that.

May you be happy on the other side, Ghost...
