School.

Hahah.

School...... wow.  In a year and half, it will have been 10 years since I graduated High School.  I know there's a few folks here that are in similar boats.  Man, time passes quick.

I just got an eMail last week for my 10th highschool reunion.Ã,  I'm not going.

It's funny 'cause it actually feels like it was a LOT longer than 10 years ago.

I barely remember highschool.  Though I think that's mostly because I was usually drunk and/or high ... but that's another story.  (I was a messed up teenager).

Okay people, I know y'all been waiting for this so here ya go:

THE CROATIAN SCHOOL EDUCATION SYSTEM (in my town)

Elementary:
At the age of 6/7 kids go in the elementary which has 8 grades.
When you reach the first, you consider yourself in the "higher grades" but there really is no difference, except you get some more subjects in the 5th and more in the 7th

High school:
Then after them 8 grades, you have to choose your carrier (age 14/15).
In my town you have a typical High school called Gymnasiun (general, language, mathematical(enhanced math type subjects and bio, chem type subjects)),
then you have the Technichal in mich you have multiple choices as: architecht, electrotechnician, builder(like bridges and all). You have then some Touristic schools, Economic, Trade school etc.

Some of them are 4 year, some are 3 year, and the Music shools can also be 6 years.
Only with the 4 year schools you can go to colledge and beyond, the 3 year schools have a higher level, which is like the 4th year, but then you can go directly to be a boss.

Only with the Gymnasium you dont have any (real) work qualifications, but
now I'm just ramblin random stuff so I'll stop.

Enough typos for you guys?

Hehe, silly Qlders. NSW and Victoria [I'm unsure about the other states], making up over half the population, both have 13 years of schooling. So on average, Austrlian students probably have 12.7634223 years, or a near number..

K (or Prep) to year 6 [7 years] in Primary, then a further 6 years to year 12 in High school, in NSW that includes the School Certificate in year10 and the Higher School Certificate in year 12 which is also used to determine university admissions.

Like almost every country in the world, we start our school year after summer. In our case, this means we start at the beginning of the calander year, which makes everything much more simple.

I had my first day of school today, which wasn't so bad, except that we start so early. I think it's out before December though.
Once I killed a man. His name was Mario, I think. His brother Luigi was upset at first, but adamant to continue on the adventure that they started together.

Hey, leave the QLDers out of it. I went to school in WA so I'm not talking about where I live now. Besides, I said 12 years because it's 12 grades of proper school (primary and high school). How many people really count kindergarten/pre-primary as a year?

sedriss

School.. phew.. im glad that im done with that crap.
By the time you read this you've already read it.

I had been to school for 25+ years, luckily it's history...

I'm having my results the same time as Zootyfruit and i'm going to collage after this summer.

I haven't looked forward to going back more than I am right now. I didn't really enjoy school though because I didn't study subjects I enjoy but collage will be diffrent as I'll be studying subjects I like, Media Production and Drawing.

My new term starts on 6th of September   :'(.
In Germany kids start with the age from 5-7. First they go to elementary which has 4 grades. Then you can decide how you wish to continue. We have four different types of high school, each with a different stage of difficulty and a different qualifications. The hardest is the Gymnasium. You'll have to do another 9 years there and if you pass the final exams you'll get Abitur which is the best qualification you can get. You need this to go to university later. Then we the Realschule. This is easier than Gymnasium and you only have to do another 6 years. After that you gain the qualification of Fachoberschulreife. You can then start working or change to a Gymnasium to do another 3 years of school to get Abitur as well. Then we have the Hauptschule which is the easiest. It's almost impossible to get a proper job with that qualification. After 6 years you get Hauptschulabschluss. You can try to go change to a Gymnasium and do another three years, but that's almost impossible because the gap between the two school is so big. Then we have the Gesamtschule. There you can get all three qualifications, depending on your marks. You can leave school after 10th grade with Realschulabschluss or Hauptschulabschluss or if your marks are good enough, you can go on for another three years and get Abitur. I'm going to a Gesamtschule and starting my last year this autumn  ;D

I don't know? you probably learn a lot more in that year than you think, but there's also preschool which is the year before Kindergarten.

in NSW Kindergarten is in big school (infants ie K,1,2)  (primary 3,4,5,6 is usually in the same school but a different section.) Preschool is the year before Kindergarten and is usually in a seperate place.

See, this is where it's kind of weird. I only had one year before grade one, which was "Pre-primary". It was a seperate school that was very close to the primary school and affiliated with it, and was where I learn most about letters/numbers/playing in sand.

I never had whatever "kindergarten" is. I mean, there's "day-care" for little kids, but that's different. I'm not sure exactly whether everyone's definition/understanding of these words differs or not.

Even though I agree that I learnt a lot in pre-primary, I don't count it as a proper year of schooling because I don't think it was cumpolsory to start there. I'm sure there were kids in my grade one class who just went straight to grade one... then again, I'm really not sure.

Babar

I don't think Kindergarten is like daycare. I had KG1 and KG2 as a kid. It is more like Class 1 and 2, but I had those too, afterwards, so I guess it is not. KG was more advanced than just learning letters and numbers and sand playing. Before KG I had "Nursery" which was kind of like learning letters numbers and napping alot. This is when I was 4. But it was compulsory. Even before that there was some kind of "play-group" that I attended. That was a bunch of singing, games and stuff. I think KG could be the equivalent of "prep", if anyone has heard of it.
As for me, although I am not too happy to be returning to school, I did not have much of a holiday. I had started applying for college, and it is a $h1tload of work, especially if you want to apply abroad. My idiot school feels like having exams just as the school starts, which is not doing much for my nerves either

Now your just making up names... :P . Seriously, to me those German and Croatian shcooling systems are pretty weird. Australia - NSW, as has already been said is quite a simple concept I think. 7 years of primary school then 6 years of high school or only 4 years if you don't want to have a decent future :P.

Oh well thats all behind me now, as I'm at uni now.

dasjoe

no, she's not making up names ;)

i got my Abitur this year, going to uni soon..
... it's quite easy being the best.

Las Naranjas

Kindergarten is just the first year of school.

Think of it as year 1, and make the numbers go up to 13.

I don't know why they have to call it Kindergarten, but hey, we also call the floor above the ground floor the 1st floor.

If it helps, in NSW
K, 1, 2 - Stage 1 - "Infants" - In Primary School.

3-4 - Stage 2 - "Seniors" [for primary school] - In Primary School

5-6 Stage 3 - ditto - ditto

7-8 - Stage 4 - Juniors - High School.

9-10 - Stage 5 - ditto - ditto - culminates in School certificate.

11-12 - Stage 6 - Seniors - ditto - culminates in Higher School Certificate
