Hehe, I remember that.

As an extra note, this was the first Sim I created:

His name is Alfonzo Dude and he is the coolest guy in the neighbourhood.

The above pic is of him wailing on his guitar.

His bio reads: "I am so awesome!"

He owns a huge house with swimming pool, plasma screen TV, basketball court and outdoor gym.

He works as a Treasure Hunter.

His wife used to be married to the next-door neighbours (The Goth family) but she is now Bella Dude.

They got married and she soon gave birth to their son, Luigi Dude, in the bathroom.

This is a pic of him impressing his wife by playing his guitar in his underpants Red Hot Chilli Peppers-style.

And like father, like son:

He totally rules!

I do remember the occasional funny moment in The Sims but that was effing hilarious!

That's nothing. My sims neighborhood features the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They do not have a fridge, so they only eat pizza (of course).

I tried making their home look like a sewer, but I had a hard time, so I just gave them a really awesome house.

OK well, instead of starting a new thread and causing a stink, I've decided to revive this old thread.

I've been regaining interest in The Sims and have read a lot of good things about Sims 2. I love what I see from the Sims 2 preview videos. I canNOT wait for this game to be released in 10 days! I'm definitely going to buy a copy, perhaps even an advance copy somewhere.

Yes, i am really looking forward to the Sims 2 also. I've been checking out the videos and screenshots, and they have me drooling.

I also went out and bought a brand new computer just so i could play this.Ã,  Seeing as much time i've invested in the Sims, i can only imagine how much time i'm gonna put into the Sims 2.

Looking forward to Friday the 17th!!

I think that the common wave is that the sims is a stopid lame game.... It is, but.... I love it!  ;D The thing that is annoying me is that with one with one of the updates when you reach the best position in your work you change of work... annoying!!!11!

P.S. Lorena and me have married today in the Sims!  ;)
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

TerranRich

I just pre-ordered from EBGames.com, and it is scheduled for release on the 14th. Dunno if that's the regular release date, or the preorder release date.

Sam.

theres a whole new version coming out called the urbs, where the sims go to the city and have to maintain a reputation and stuff, that looks quite fun. i found this out at ea games on he website if anyone is interested.
Bye bye thankyou I love you.

Matt Frith

I believe the Uk release date is the 17th of September.  I for one plan to get it as it looks to be a vast improvement on the first game, both in terms of graphics and its playability.  Plus you can customise your sims more, so i would expect to see lots of AGSers to be made.

I'm rather sad, I have all the expansion packs. I play them intermittently. Occassionally I play it seriously, and make loadsa money and get a nice house, but more often than not I just fool around with it. I like to put in all my real life friends, and make them all love/hate each other. Or just leave them to it and see what happens.

I'm quite looking forward to Sims 2, but goodness knows if my computer can handle it. Ah well, we're getting a new computer fairly soon anyway. Hopefully it'll be able to manage it.

Edit: Just downloaded the doo-hickey that checks your computer's specs for you, and it seems my humble computer should be able to play the Sims 2. Woo!

TerranRich

Yeah, I was looking ito The Urbz, but I couldn't find much information on it. From what I gather, it's a console-only game, thus the awesome advanced graphics, but otherwise appearance-wise it looks like Sims 2 technology. Since I can't find a PC version on www.EBGames.com, I'll stick with Sims 2. I can't wait to see what kind of extensions will be available for TS2. I'm already downloadinig content for TS2 from http://sims2.thesimsresource.com/ and have about 200+ MB worth of content already. :P

Sorry to bump this up, but I received my Sims 2 Preview CD the other day and I'm lookng at the videos and interviews and introductions. One video blew me away and put everything into perspective.

The narrator created Don, who fell in love with Dina, then Kerry (?), and then Angela (I forgot the names, let's just use those for now). In the end, Don truly fell in love with Angel and married her. This was shown using the Movie Maker feature, which I want to try out.

Anyway, next the narrator showed us their lives together now, and their son's birthday party, an important milestone. What played out next was something out of a movie, where the narrator showed us the Fears and Aspirations of the Sim Don. One of Don's aspirations was to talk...simply talk...to Dina, who happened to be at the party (she's apparently now a family friend through Don). He showed us Angela's sister, who looked just like her sister would in real life. Same hair, different style, slightly older. It was amazing. We also see that one of Angela's Fears is being cheated on.

Then, the narrator decided to play out Don as himself and talk to Dina. They talked. Suddenly, we see one of Don's Aspirations change, and now he wants to Flirt with Dina. Okay, so we do. They're inside now, in a living room area. Next, that Aspiration changes so that now he wants to Cuddle with Dina. Narrator decides to continue, despite the social ramifications if they are caught, and cites how lucky they are that they are in private. So they Cuddle. Now that Aspiration changes into Kiss Dina. So we do. As they make out (rather excitedly and animatedly, by the way), Angela's sister comes in, sees them, and freaks out silently. Showing their semi-intelligence, she now knows about this situation and, on her own, goes to tell Angela outside, who starts to cry.

The narrator then makes Don apologize to Angela. It seems to work...until Dina runs outside and ruins everything by giving Don and short but passionate lovers' kiss. Angela has just had one of her Fears realized, and starts to lose it, dropping on the floor, and sitting there cryng and screaming. Then, Angela brawls with Dina, defending her sister's honor, while Don watches and cheers.

The narrator then zooms out, wrapping up the genetics and realism of The Sims 2. I would suggest anybody that pre-orders/pre-ordered TS2 also get the free (pay for shipping only) Preview CD. It's amazing. :)

Yeh ive seen that video too and my thoughts were exactly the same.  There are so many more possibilities compared to the original game.  Ive also preordered a copy. I think it will arrive on friday, zing!

I don't like the SIMS. I just thought I might as well say it here, because I haven't been able to say it anywhere else. As a matter of fact, I HATE the SIMs. It seems to me like the ultimate life-copy game... but life isn't really that exciting unless we make it exciting. If I want to go on a date, get kids, make a house, I actually do it. I play games - adventure games - to live other lives, participate in stories. The SIMs has no real plot, and doesn't appeal to me.

Out of curiosity, am I the only one to think this?

redruM, i would have to agree with you about this. I found that the only part of the Sims that really appealed to me was the house design, because this was a way to express my creativity. But once this stage was over simply placing some items like fish tanks, or a new TV really did'nt excite me.

I fear that GrandTheftAuto, which i used to find quite fun is going in the same direction. I mean, mow your own lawn... whats up with that?

TerranRich

You two make valid points. That is true with The Sims 1. I found that after creating the house, it all went downhill from there. The add-on paks were the only things that would keep me playing.

But wth TS2, I have a feeling it's only going to improve. The Sims is a different type of game. There is no real plot; you play it just for entertainment, maybe one or two hours, then you're done with it and move on. It's not like a Space Quest or a Monkey Island where it keeps you glued for hours.

And that's why The Sims is a money-maker: ultmate replayability. You never get the same scenario twice. Unless of course you make it happen that way.

How to torture your sims to death.

I was able to get into the sims at one time in my life, and that was when we had to drive from Oklahoma to Florida and there was nothing else to do in the van besides read a book for the third time or argue with my siblings.

That website brings back memories.
Once I killed a man. His name was Mario, I think. His brother Luigi was upset at first, but adamant to continue on the adventure that they started together.

BOYD1981

only bad things about the sims 2 is that they're using SafeDisc 3, which unfortunately is becoming popular, it "blacklists" certain cd emulation software so that if the game detects it running, it won't load until you've disabled it, which if you ask me is just asking for people to crack your software, i don't know why the makers of these virtual cd programmes (it's mostly CloneCD users that have problems with it) don't take legal action against the makers of SafeDisc 3 (Macromedia i think)...
another sucky thing is that there are no signs of a Special Edition DVD version of the game on any of the british stores, the links on thesims2.com just link to american stores, and amazon.com won't ship the dvd edition to the uk, which sucks...

I've never really understood the beauty of Sims, but then again I've never tried it.

Can you do interesting, funky stuff, like robbing a bank, becoming a world famous lute player, etc, or is it just about getting a family, buying a house and paying the mortgage? Can you skip doing the dishes without your children dying from bacterial diseases?

Is it a mere substitute for those in lack of a real social life, or can everybody enjoy it?

Andail,

The Sims is a unique game.Ã,  There is really no way to explain WHAT it is that makes it so fun.Ã,  It's like Sim City, you look at it and think "What could POSSIBLY be so fun about building a city?"Ã,  But then you try it out and realize, for some reason it is fun.

Basically you can do pretty much anything you want with your sims.Ã,  I'd suggest giving it a try, but personally, I would wait for The Sims 2.Ã,  I'm quite certain it's going to be the BEST Sims game in history.

Did you ever play Jones in the fast lane??? The sims is like a REALLY hugh version of that game. You get to pursue goals, careers and buy awesome stuff for your Sims.  And you don't have to sit around and watch them eat, wash dishes and sleep.  There is a fast foward button.
