Star Wars or Star Trek?

To answer your first question, NO, this is not a thread to start a flame war between the Trekkies and the erm...Warries? its a question to all the fans out there,( yes, we know who you are)as well as none fans, as to whether the star wars or star trek fans, have less  of a sense of humour, to put it bluntly, who would be more likely(or the first) to burn my house down if I made a game unofficially in these universes, but made fun of the universes conventions while at it. give you your reasons, and which you would prefer. oh, and hate me, hate me now.

I don't think anyone would care. If you made a game about making fun of Bolivians I'm sure you'll get some angry PMs but I'm 99.9% sure no one will hate you for making a game making fun of a tv show/movie.

There is fan fiction out there involving all the characters of each universe having sex with each other, I doubt you'll do something more "offensive" than that!

So to answer the question: I don't care which, as long as you have fun. But I'd prefer Star Trek because Star Wars has been spoofed so much and is so boring anyway. Just don't make jokes about the one guy on an away team that gets killed.

Actually I think it's quite a fun debate! I remember we used to talk about it a lot down our street, because there was a clear divide amongst the street-leaders, Leigh & Neil, one was a trekky, the other a Star Wars fan.

At the time, I was a trekkie fan moreso because though the Star Wars universe was quality, it was all about war. Trekking was about, well trekking, discovery & adventure (and yes sometimes some war, but not ALL OUT war).

Anyway. Don't quote me but I'd imagine Trekky fans have less of a sense of humour. I've never heard of crazy Star Wars conventions like we all have Star Trek conventions.

What would be awesome is if Jean luc Piccard stumbled across the Star Wars universe! :P

I beleive that you're likely to offend both parties if you parody both universes, but on the flip-side - both sides will still really enjoy a parody. J Dekker's Star Trek Spoof game looked really fun. That's about all I can contribute, because I'm not really sure what it is you're asking.

I hate Star Trek and am one of the biggest Star Wars fans ever, but parodies don't really offend me. In fact, I was even think of making a Star Wars parody myself.

That's it, which would you rather see spoofed. actually, my plan was not a spoof, I mean it would make fun of the universe, but it wouldn't spoof specific characters, like "Captain Jerk" for "captain kirk" or something like that. (its hard to spoof star wars names anyway, because they are just so silly already)

Contrarywise, I hate Star Wars and am huge fan of Star Trek, a parody won't offend me.

Also Mark, though I haven't heard of a purely Star Wars convention, I'm sure they exist, and I have seen just as many Stormtroopers and Darth Vaders as I have Klingons and Federation personel at these events.

I wouldn't say Star Trek fans are any crazier.

Hmmm...

Stargate? I like that but can't see the potential of it getting spoofed.

(Well I suppose you could have a symbiont argue woith the host...)

I don't mind star wars, but it bores me from time to time. (Not just the new ones either)

I have watched probably every single episode of star trek except the sixties series. Having said that, I don't consider myself a trekkie as I only own a few films and don't do anything else star trek wise.

I once spoofed star trek myself when I was younger. It was audio only and it was called "captain's log", so yeah I'd love to play a spoof game.

When I was first thinking of what adventure game to make I had an idea for a game I'd call "Odo's investigations", set when he can shape shift. But my graphic skills would never give it justice.

Quark has his own bar on earth now? That's awesome! Despite the obvious name I much prefer Star Trek. Star Trek IV seems to be a parody of Star Trek itself. I often like parodies of either of the universes. Ninjas on the otherhand are deadly serious.

I was working on a star trek parody that played like Star Trek 25th, but with over the top situations like 'The Strange Case of Mr. Scott' where each episode Scotty's a bit fatter until Kirk goes to the engine room and finds that Mr. Scott's become addicted to Andorian Donuts and he's expanding at an exponential rate.  So yeah, I think humor with either series is fine.

Krysis

Star Wars has stormtroopers, lightsabers, the force and Darth Vader.
Star Trek has klingons, proton torpedos, trekkin' and Jean luc Piccard.
Hitchhiker's Guide has vogons, dolphins, loads of fun and Marvin.
Dune has huge worms, freemen, the spice and an evil fat Baron.

Parody all of them a just little. Don't limit yourself on one thing.  :P

I always have loved Star Trek over Star Wars (mainly over plot preferences), but I feel that if you were making a parody, a SW parody would be funnier and be more easily recepted. However, if your making a funny version, as in having very daft situations in a universe, I feel Star Trek would be more suitable. Also, you won't have to worry about George Lucas sending his death star loaded with cease-and-desist letters to you. :=

Although, on the topic of which have a greater sence of Humor, its probably going to be the Trekkies. Pretty much my entire family have been a fan at one point or another, and we all get along fine. Star Wars is just too serious.  :-\

Heh...How can you parody Hitchhiker's Guide? That'd be weird.

Now, with his very own game: Alien Time Zone

Make something like Space Quest... but with parodies on different movies...
And let me do the music... like... 70's Hawkwind spacerock... It'd be great  :D

Paper Carnival

Space Balls is a nice Star Wars parody that I watched, it's a bit old but quite nice.

I was never into Star Trek, but I saw the Star War movies (except Phantom Menace) and played a few Star Wars games. I was never a "fan" though, I just think it's a nice story. Being a "fan" of something very often forces you to lie to yourself and also to waste money on things that you don't actually need :P

ManicMatt

Space balls the movie! I love that film.

By the way, it also to a smaller degree spoofed Alien and Star trek! (and maybe some other things)

Remember, when that bad guy gets beamed in by Snotty? Man that was freaking hilarious!

Also, Space balls stars the guy who plays Tuvok in Voyager who has a very small part "combing" the desert.

Steel Drummer

I think in the game you should spoof actors from both series and creators of both series. I'd personally prefer a star wars spoof since i'm not into star trek.

Forget all the previosly mentioned titles and make a parody of "Alien from L.A.", Kathy Ireland starred in that film, along with Thom Matthews (Tommy Jarvis in Friday the 13th VI). It was cheesy as hell. I'm sure you can think of a way  :D

ManicMatt

Never heard of it. I suspect most people haven't if you have to tell us who starred in it!

I think some of those star trek fan series like you have under your banner are more like parodies lol

(Dunno if I saw the particular one in your banner actually)
