Religious beliefs aside, you can't really make fun of what someone believes in - with (what you to believe to be) witty quotes, pictures and signing up as Jesus and telling everyone to go to hell - and then when they reply - some screaming in indignation, some trying to reason - you tell them to stay away from your freedom of speech and to accept their sense of humour as God would as well.
Whew... That was a long sentence.
I mean if someone posts telling you their mother is the greatest person alive, and you would all love her (something as wacky as how this thread started), and you started insulting her, involving sheep and making pictures etc, they wont like it. You can't exactly tell them that if their mother was so great, she wouldn't mind their humour.
The only reason I can think of such a vehement "funning" is religious insecurity. I mean, accept it that there are many religions out there that don't agree with your "I am an athiest, because it is the most logical thing to be" ideas, and they never will. As suggested, just agree to disagree.
I am not really advocating religious mania either. I am sure it is very annoying to have people push their beliefs on you, but just tell them that this is not the place to discuss such things. Lock the topic if need be. Making fun will just fuel there mania.

When some adult man believes the things that are told in Bible... some of us just can't avoid make fun of it...

I hope that in 2,000 years there will be another similar discussion in a virtual café with a bunch of guys telling "Yes... he sacrificed his life, but he came stronger as ever to fight the evil!" "There are something in the universe that we can't see, but it moves it all"

And some of the other guys will say "No, Lucas was just trying to tell a tale! He was not telling real facts!"

Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

Ghormak

We are only human.

Athesists/whateverists: Don't try to make the Christians "realise" there is no God. How could you possibly know there isn't?

Christians: Do not be shocked and surprised at the comments here. I'm sure you can see why any non-religious person might find it silly to think there's a guy up in the clouds that knows everything and chooses what to do with your soul after you die.

What are my religious beliefs then? I don't really believe anything, because there's no way I could know what's truth and what isn't, so I don't want to take a stand and argue for something that may not be true at all. I just acknowledge the different opinions and then move on.

well, you're so freaking diplomatic, Ghormak, it brings tears to my eyes.

Just last night you said to me over irc: "damn those christians, let's burn them on stakes!"

I heard the movie 'The Passion of Christ' was based on some book.

No it's the other way around.

I'm Christian, but not extremist. I don't get upset about those comments. I kid and joke about religion, but if God's there he'll know I'm kidding.

You know, it's always amused me how most religious people hold the belief that without religion people are evil heartless bastards who become murderers and rapists and cannot control their urges and instincts and emotions.

I am an atheist. And I'm the nicest, kindest, most generous and giving person you will ever meet. I don't believe in anything. I just believe in my person morals and the belief that I should treat others the way I would like to be treated. The Bible does have some good advice, but to me, most of it is nonsense. I don't believe in God. I don't believe Jesus had magical powers. To me, God is a mythical being that is interesting to study and read about. But to believe God exists? Let alone worship him? That's a stretch of the imaginaton as far as I'm concerned and I prefer to believe in established fact. Don't be offended. Just like I'm not offended whenever somebody says "You must choose Jesus as your savior, because sooner he won't tolerate it anymore and start whooping your candy-ass." I'm just telling it like it is.

I mean, think about it. Really think about it. Does it make much sense for a perfect God to create a people, to give them free will, only to demand that they worship you every waking minute of their lives? It makes more sense to me for a God to only ask that his people be moral and good and do whatever they feel like doing. Indulgence shouldn't be a sin; it makes no sense for it to be. Why wouldn't God love us enough to let us do whatever we felt like doing? I never understood why I had to even attend church or pray to him every night. At that point, I believed he existed (much like I believed in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny), so I figured why would he want me to take time out of the life he gave me, to waste it away standing, sitting, kneeling, shaking hands, eating crackers, bowing my head, singing, reading. It is not a productive use of one's time and to me it's a sin. I would be wasting time out of the life that God gave me to do whatever I wanted. I'm sure he wouldn't want me wasting it like that. I know he exists, and if he's omniscient then he already knows this. It is pointless and futile to actually act out my belief in him, if he already knows I acknowledge him.

Of course, I woke up eventually and saw that God is just a figment of our imagination. Is it any coincidence that the only records of people being contacted by God are thousands of years old? Oh sure, we can explain it away as the fact that God is saddened by us and he is disappointed and is sulking somewhere ini heaven. So why doesn't he just contact somebody and prove he exists? Oh! Because God "works in mysterious ways" and he expects us to believe in him regardless of proof. How...convenient. I saw through all these lies and convenient explanations and backing-out.

Sorry for that rant. It's just the way that I feel. I refuse to believe some paltry explanation of "we must have faith, regardless of proof" and "we must worship him because it is a way for us to control you all God expects us to". None of if made any sense to me.

So what I guess I'm really trying to say here is that people don't necessarily need religion to have morals. Morals can exist without religion. It's a ridiculous notion that without religion, morals either fall apart or don't exist at all.

God makes people do all that?

"Eating Crackers" Does that make low-carb dieting a sin for Christians?

Did someone mention my name?

I was busy watching Desperate Housewifes.  Best show since "The Young Ones"..... anyway, what did I miss?
