The best part of game making?

I like the programing aspect as it appeals to my mathmatical and logic set mind. That said, my absolute favorite part is making dialog, and then seeing what it becomes. For some reason, it'll seem ten times funnier in the game, vs written in the dialog editor. And I always get a kick out of how much flesh it adds.

Animations, the actual making of them is not fun for me, as I'm not a artistic person, and utterly hopeless when it comes to drawing. However, after all the work is done, it's quite enjoyable to look at the outcome.

I'm jumping on the bandwagon and saying "Animation". Specifically long and spectacular ones. I got hooked after spending two days working on an animation for one of my games where two characters kiss, and have been addicted ever since.

Man, the joy I felt after finishing the end game animations for ToaK... Good times.
I make music.

The best part is when the game is finally done, and you look back at all the work you've done and what you've accomplished.

My least favorite part? Writing dialog. I'm not very good at it, but someone's gotta do it.

Blade

First great thing is coming up with the story, especially the first stunning moment when I am amazed with a sudden idea. Then I like adding to it and having the plot, but I don't like details like puzzles or dialog and especially rewriting some parts because I do find something does not fit.

Second is seeing that I actually have accomplished something, that it is coming to life. I'm particularly fond of cutscenes.

Third, which is the best for me, is having the game published. It's done, now you may read comments, have a little break and start doing the next game. I haven't yet published anything  :-\

The worst is scripting, probably because I didn't get used to it yet (and I don't know if I ever do).
Studies show that 50% of the people do not know they form half of the society.

It'll happen. I got to like scripting more and more everytime I tried doing something new. Whenever I learnt some new way of scripting something, making something easier or trying something clever, spripting magically become both easier and much more fun.

I could second that. Every time I make something new with AGS I learn something new about scripting :P

Oh, I remember the times when I didn't know ANYTHING about scripting... it was like hellÃ,  ;)

Bernie

I like the scripting part as much as I like making/animating sprites and drawing backgrounds. The only thing I don't like is making music, mostly because I'm just no good at it. But it's fun to go and search the internet for good, usable midis.

Best part Id huv to say when youve finished it and everybody is in awe!
Just admiring your work and go WOW! Great job man...

This still but a dream but I believe the feeling is the same cause Ive had that
response with my poetry, wrtiting and drawing.

Other than that just getting down and dirty experimenting with the different
options you have, (story wise) I love writing the storys and spicing them up!

I feel, like Dragonrose, that the best part is planning. I can plan and plan wonderful things that'll appear in the game, and then I'll marvel at how great it would be, but making that plan come to life is well, problematic. Sometimes I can sit and imagine my game, imagine the response players might have to certain parts, etc.. daydreaming ;)

I never really get to animating cause the characters have always been a weak spot for me. However I do think it would be a great feeling to see my creation come to life.
I also feel joy when I achieve something in scripting, some trick or some bit I was trying to get to work.
And, naturally, when the release part arrives, sitting there checking for replies every minute is kinda fun ;).

I like writing, anything, a lot. Stories, dialogue, even room descriptions! Though, my increasing cynicism is killing my creativity...

So, I guess I'll say scripting. I haven't found it terribly difficult as I used to study Computer Science. I find it rather enjoyable to start from scratch trying to work out how something is done. Its why I haven't used the Tehcnical Forum much; strangely it feels like cheating!

I am however developing a bit of an interest in art. I'm not an artist, but I can draw fairly well, if I'm have something to work from. I sometimes get so into it that I actually zoom in and tidy bits up pixel by pixel (which is why I prefer 320X200 backgrounds). And when I've finished a background I tend to feel a nice sense of achievement.

Animations are not my friend though. I'm trying to improve them, but its a bit of a nuisance sometimes. It takes me ages just to do a walkcycle.

Music isn't really my forte either. I can play a couple of instruments, and sing a bit, but I'm not a composer.

Ummm... so to summarise: programming!

The best part is going to bed after having finished.

Oneway

Having players beg you for clues  ;D

well, i hope that will be nice though..
I'll know in a couple of months.

The best is when you see it all fit together and you can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Art is fun, even walkcycles, but in small doses. It just seems to take forever sometimes.

The worst is finishing it and discover that people find it bleh.

1. I second MrColossal about admiring anims
2. The start: I mean, when you just decide to start - this new game idea that burns your brains and motivation is sooo-ooo high....

...Well, it cools off soonÃ,  :P
3. The moment where you just released the game and got first (positive) feedback, like a "whoaÃ,  :o :o :o"-style answer in a forum thread or a friend finishing it and looking at you with amazed face... "You really did it?"

Game making rules!

If you start making a game, you're brave.
If you are making a game, you're cool.
If you finish making a game, you're god.

The best part of game making? I love being done.

Done with a background. Done with a walkcycle. Done with a room, fresh with hotspots. Done with the room descriptions and the attempts at the witty dialog. Done with that last pesky animation. Done with the last .midi import. Done with that batch of .wav files that needed editing. Done with the bug testing and spell checking.

Just done.

Ahh, but truth be told the best part is the journey. Adventure Game making is such a creative outlet. Nothing quite compares to it. There is nothing like drawing and listening to some Dean Martin, or bashing your head against your desk in an attempt to squash yet another scripting error. Nothing like uploading the .zip file and like Mr C. said watching the announcements forum like an expectant mother. And of course ... nothing quite like designing another.
