Modgeulator, I get that error too. It's so annoying, I know my PC is strong enough to run the demo (I mean, I ran Half-Life 2 at excellent settings fine!)... It's quite annoying. I've tried looking around the net for help, but have only found people encountering the same problem.
I make music.

The default setup is retarded in my opinion. When you "invert" both axes of the camera movement in the options it makes a lot more sense - the mouse steers the character, just like a FPS.

Yeah, I immediately inverted both axes because, as you said, the default is retarded.  After inverting, moving around in open spaces feels quite natural and fun.  But that wasn't what I was talking about.

You have to fight with the camera when you get into tight spaces.  Even if you go into one of the little bunk houses, it's tough to see what you're doing because the camera doesn't always zoom into the house with you.

But more annoyingly, the camera always drifts back to the default zero-incline position.  This is terribly annoying when you're trying to run up a hill and angle the camera upwards to see where your going, but the camera wants to zero back to looking horizontally...  This makes it very difficult to see what's awaiting you at the top of the hill.

Yeah, the defaults were silly.  The first time I moved the mouse I realised it wasn't very good, so I moved the attack button to the keyboard and didn't touch the mouse again, no problem fighting or controlling the camera with the keys, with that setup I quite liked the controls on the whole.

I thought it was a pretty bad port of a game made with consoles in mind.

From what I've been hearing Tim Schafer say about this game it made me think it was going to be something hugely original. It just seemed like a pretty run of the mill platformer to me. I'll probably buy it though since I'm into comparable games like Jak & Daxter.

The world it's set in seems pretty interesting and weird, and the graphics are pretty decent.

I hope the full game clocks in at way more than 12 hours playing time.

As a lover of good platformers and an even bigger lover of all things Schafer, I want to play this BAD. But it's not going to happen any time soon, what with this rickety old pc of mine.

It'll be a shame not to have a full collection of Schafer games for the first time in a while. I might buy it anyway just to hang the box on my wall.

Woah nelly, anyone getting this message?

"Please insert your original "Psychonauts Demo" CD/DVD to start the application."

it was working yesterday...

Stickieee

OMG THAT WAS GREAT! I've now played the demo through three times and it seems to be an insanely good game. I weren't really expecting much - just your regular platformer with a glued-on plot - but this was so much more. Sure, I got to see only the demo, but it really made me want more. I wouldn't have even thought of bying this game before I played the demo. Not it seems like a must ::) In case there's still someone here who hasn't tried it out, I really suggest you should.

I'm glad I'm converting the hethens! ;D

The music is great. You could just stop in the camp and hang out while listening to the music. There's not many games that do that.

Yufshter

I've converted people at work.

Every time somebody has kids running around the store mindlessly, I gently usher them over to Psychonauts and they stay glued to it for ages.

Man, what a game! I have not been let down. I love it to pieces!

m0ds

After all this hype and excitement, you've only said TWO things about the demo Salks, and those two things are like, the shortest comments you've ever made...

QuotePsychonauts rules! :D

You're the resident Pscyonutter, I refuse to play it until I've at least read a two paragraph review by you, Yufster...! Weren't you waiting years on this? :P If you've got one hiding somewhere tell me where I can read it!!

Yufshter

Very well.

Psychonauts is the best, quirkiest, awesome game I have ever played. So far. I mean the demo rocks. The opening logo, both of Double Fine and of Raz and the Majesco logo... they sent shivers of delight up my spine. It's so cinematic and gorgeous, you simply have to experience it yourself to understand.

The intro is great. At first I thought it was a little too long, but then I realized that it has to explain the story for people who haven't spent the past five years hanging on to every word Schafer has said about it, so actually it's probably the perfect length. The characters leap out of the screen, and the environment is simply awe-inspiring. The acting is awesome. The animation is awesome. The music is awesome. The gameplay is fun and awesome. Awesome!

The humour is one of my favourite parts of this game. It's so different, so excellent. Man, I've got to start using words other than 'excellent', 'awesome' and 'different', or people might think this game is limited.

Now download and play the demo NOW, before I kick your ass...tral projection right outta here!

Yufshter

Oh by the way Psychonauts helped me overcome my bulimia and cured my cancer. A little miracle with every Installation File!

Kweepa

Game's out tomorrow!
On the PC, $30 = £15.75. Bargain!

In the US, if you preorder with an EB store you get a pack of Psychonauts playing cards. I'm getting me down there and getting me some this lunchtime.
Gamestop may still have t-shirts too...

Woot!

Well, it's now time to get it, and you can also get some cool shirts and junk from Double Fine:

OMFG Richard Horvitz is doing voice acting for this game, definatley a must for me
When I was a little kid we had a sand box. It was a quicksand box. I was an only child... eventually.

modgeulatorrr

Oh well, there's a new version of the demo out and an 11mb patch available. I've tried it, now I'm getting a BSOD just after the intro when you first enter the camp. Tried updating my video driver but that just causes the game to freeze right at the intro... I think I'll be getting the XBOX version somehow...

So is the game out yet or what?
All the stores around here said it had a release date of the 19th, but none of them have it.
Never though this would be a game I'd have to chase around.

edit: Fark it. If the stores won't accomodate me, then screw em. I ordered it straight through Double Fine, which probably makes my copy Double Extra Fine. Plus I'm getting a totally rad patch for my jean jacket. Try to resist me now, ladies.
SHAWNO NEWS FLASH: Rodekill.com, not updated because I suck at animation. Long story.

I'm still waiting for it to arrive at EB - they keep saying "tomorrow".
The xbox version was in yesterday...
