Your knowledge within the art of chocolate milk is exceptional! But what about the hot chocolate powder that is made to be dissolved in hot milk? Would that mix with cold milk as well?

Tuomas

Blueskirt's reply made my head hurt :(

So is the hot-cold powder thing a chemical mixing thing or something? What would happen if I mixed cold powder into hot milk or water? Or the other way around.

And Eldkatt might be a winner, but we have the moral victory... you pagan ¬¬

This is getting way too complicated  ::)

If I need a break from my usual hardly-liquid-nearly-pure-caffeine-drink-diet, I usually use a machine for making hot chocolate. All it needs is some water and two ridiculously priced plastic thingamajiggies (a brown and a white one) containing some sort of magical substance that turns into tasty drinkable chocolate under the influence of hot water. And a lot of noise, as it were.

Stupot

errr... you sure sure you're not just talking about chocolate Nesquik?

Yeah, a restaurant I worked at once had that thingy, only with coffee. It's extremely noisy though!

Alright, let's simplify it a bit. From my personal experience:

Hot Chocolate Powder + Hot Water = Hot Chocolate (Good)
Chocolate Milk Powder + Cold Milk = Chocolate Milk (Good)
Chocolate Milk Powder + Hot Water = Hot Chocolate with weird taste (Not good)
Hot Chocolate Powder + Cold Milk = Milk with chocolate powder floating on top (Not good)

I never tried with hot milk, so I have no idea what it would result with.

I suppose the dissolving is linked to the temperature rather than the substance it is dissolved in, but there's only one way to find out, to the Fat-Cave!

Domino

I find that Hershey's Chocolate Syrup works best to make chocolate milk. It stirs in evenly and doesn't leave any globs of powder at the bottom.

Agreed. Delicious. Though I think I've developed an intolerance to milk by drinking waaaay too much milk for the last few weeks.  :(

Is it just me, or is the powder that you stir in FAR superior to the boxes and bottles of chocolate milk that you purchase pre mixed?

Chocolate milk in a container that is premixed always disappoints me - I've only ever had one that I liked, and that was diet chocolate milk - even though I usually hate diet food. I think the milk flavour was so weak that the chocolate flavour came through better.

Nesquik appears to be far superior flavour wise.

It's not just you. I've never liked any of the chocolate milk shit you get in bottles or cartons.

How about Yoo-Hoo. I think that is chocolate flavored water. Not 100 percent sure though.

edit (ingredients): Ingredients: Water, dairy whey, high fructose corn syrup and/or sugar, non-fat ilk, cornsyrup solids, cocoa processed with potassium carbonate, soybean oil (partially hydrogenated), sodium caseinate, salt, tricalcium phosphate, dipotassium phosphate, xanthan gum, guar gum, mono and di glycerides, vanillan, lecithin, calcium ascorbate, natural flavor, vitamin A palmitate, niacinamide, vitamin D, riboflavin.

Now doesn't that sound delicious.  :)

Vict0r - Ah ha! I KNEW I couldn't be alone in this case. How do the companies manage to keep selling that stuff when it's obvious it is so bad? I'd rather take my own tin of powder and buy plain milk at the store when I'm thirsty and mix it in.

In fact.... (considers taking tin of chocolate powder everywhere)

Domino - Nope, I can't say I've ever had it. Damn, there be a lot of things in that. But chocolate flavoured water? I cannot imagine enjoying such a thing!

Khris

I'm addicted to Nescafé's Cappuccino Powder. I think I drink about ten cups a day... :-\
It's supposed to be mixed with hot water since it contains milk powder.

An ex-girlfriend used to mix it with hot milk. The taste wasn't too weird (milk is 85% water), but the consistency was.

Paper Carnival

I only drink canned chocolate milk. There's some kind of manufactured goodness in it that you will never accomplish by mixing in the powder yourself.

When I was a kid I'd drink:

Now I drink:

Which is chocolate Soya milk but it's tastes way nicer than you'd think.

Also nice:

Ah, the chocolate obsession  ::) I just eat a spoon of Kaba chocolate mild powder per day and cut out the middle man (or, in this case, cow).

Man, when I was a kid, I used to LOVE the taste of Soya milk! I haven't had any for ages though....

...maybe I should go and get some to see if it is as good as I remember it. Unfortunately I fear it will just be me remembering things prettier than they really were again, and will destroy one more fond childhood memory.

Oh, the dilemma!
