I'm diabetic, as well. Ã, I've had it since I was a little under three. Ã, Sugar itself doesn't really affect mine (which probably seems a little odd, yet is true), but starchy foods that turn into sugar do, so I have to watch about eating too much stuff like potatoes and bread and such.
After I started high school, I got in with a whole new group of friends than the ones I'd had from childhood, and half those friends truly had no idea that I was diabetic until I told them. Ã,
It's not a hard thing to manage, though insulin shots aren't exactly fun. Ã, You do get used to those after awhile, however, and there's always the option of a pump.
I forgot about keytones, man. Ã, Sorry. Ã, Those are definitely something she should watch, SSH. Ã, Did the doctor give her a list of the best stuff to eat to keep those down?
Anyway, I hope your wife feels better soon. Ã, Diabetes is sometimes a little hard to accept, but if she has to do it, I'm sure she'll have no problems adapting to it. Ã, It doesn't actually require a 360 degree lifestyle change like most people would think.

I'm back up with the listing, with better time. Last night I only had few minutes to finish my post... so...

I suffer from three little sisters, it's not from birth, it devlopped in four first years of my life... what??

Someone mentioned insomnia? I used to have something like it, I used to lay hours in my bed before getting to sleep. Nowdays (I'm older, my parent's won't bother me about ti so damn much anymore) I do something - like listen to music, read, or just fool around with the stuff I find when get caried away searching one of those piles of stuff that get gathered in my room - untill it's so late that I have to go to bed so I can get some kind of sleep so I wake up in time, or untill I start feeling too tired. I think I should see if I still have that little bit of it, and start going to bed really early, as the changes are I'd have a decent dream again... (I had a really bizarre dream a few nigths ago, I slept until 9:30AM or something, as I normally would have to wake up around 7AM, but no school that day...)

I've met a girl (and unfortunately had to spend a year with her, same class you see) who suffered from about everything, apart from diabetes... well, not of everthing, she only had had like three lobotomies (sp), she has pipe vision (like looking throught a binocular that does not magnify at all), she cound't see things that don't move very well, and she was stubborn, loudvoiced, ans extremely stupid. I'm gald she's most likely one of a kind.

I do understand I should not mock anyone with a disease, I am one of them after all, and I've see a lot, and grown to understand, but there is NO PERSON on earth who would understhand her.. not for long anyway. I withnessed a relationship with her and a boy from a lower grade, the relationship lasted six weeks, untill he ended it. And his comments were along "She is horrible! I shouldn't ever have started that thing" or something... I won't go on about this anymore, I have used up enough bandwith already.
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

AGA

Then I think us Mitteners should talk to you about your soda intake, AGA...

The my drinking shitloads thing is more of a habit by now than anything. It is true that diabetics need to drink loads when their blood sugar level is high, but I just sort of got used to drinking loads when I was younger, when my diabetes was a lot more poorly controlled. I could theoretically cut down and not be left thirsty, I just can't be bothered.

Having met AGA twice, i would never have guessed he was diabetic.

I have dyslexia but try not to make it too obvious.

edit: petes reply reminded me, i'm practically deaf in one ear

Pet Terry

About eight years ago my school doctor found out that my hearing is under the what it is on average person. Basically that means that I have hard time hearing high pitched sound or whispering for example. Like, if my cell phone rings in the next room, I might not hear it. When studying languages I have never been really good with listening comprehension tests. I also have tinnitus, but I don't usually notice it until I'm alone and it is rather quiet. I'm not sure why my hearing is what it is, but my parents and doctors are suspecting it's because when I was about 4 years old I had ear infection and I refused to take the medicine. Mind you, I remember the whole thing. It was horrible and the medicine tasted really bad. The other reason might be that I got a walkman when I was about eight years old and I listened it quite much, but I can't tell if I had the volume too loud.

It's annoying at times. Especially if people don't know about it and I go 'Sorry? or 'Huh?' every now and then after they have said something. Especially this happen with new people, but I always get used to their speaking and after a while understand them pretty easily. Another thing is that I'm very musical. Fortunately my hearing hasn't affected that in any way, but I don't know what I would do if one day I went compeletely deaf...

Woh tough man. Well, seeing us everyone seems to be a lot sicker than I would have thought, I'll share mine.

I've got this piece called Coeliac Disease (pronounced see-lee-ack). What it basically means I have an intolerance to gluten, so I'm not really supposed eat food with gluten in. When I was younger I missed a lot of school because my parents didnt realise I had it, and I kept eating glutenous food. The problem is most food has gluten in - most things made with bread for example. But a lot of places make 'gluten-free' food now which is handy. Anyway, I've come to accept it. Not as severe as some of the over ailments here and I don't treat it as an issue any more. I still have glutenous food occassionally and I'm fine now. I think its if I eat it regularly problems might begin again.

*ahem* Well, that's mine.

Babar

I am half blind in my right eye. It has something to do with the fact that my family kept a ton of dogs when I was younger, and I was quite close to them. Something about the dog hair. The result is that I have really bad perception. This unfortunately means I SUCK at a LOT of sports. Balls more often hit my head than me catching them.
I also have this weird compulsive habit. I am not sure if it is a chronic illness, but it is like if I lock my door, a few seconds later I have to check again to make SURE that I locked it, even though in my head I know that it is locked. Small stuff like that.

yeah some people get that really bad, like they will flip the light on and off 9 or 10 times to make sure they have actually done it

M

There was a thread about compulsive stuff like that a while ago.
There it goes. I used to have some myself.

DragonRose

I have bronchial asthma.  This means that the bronchial  tubes in my throat go into overdrive when I come into contact with my triggers or I do something aerobic.  I'm really lucky in that my only main trigger is cold air, so I don't have to worry about animals or pollen or anything like that.  However, I'm really unlucky in that my main trigger is cold air, and I live in Canada.  Early mornings are already cold enough to set me off.
Sssshhhh!!! No sex please, we're British!!- Pumaman

Kinoko

Man, I don't have anything. I feel like such a freak. My swimming teacher used to say my hip was out of joint! I once had ring worm... I have a severe fear of cutting my hair short.

*sigh* Nothing.

auhsor

Thats the same with me Kinoko. As far as I know, there is nothing majorly wrong with me. I know that I will develop a bad back when I'm older due to my posture now. I also know that I will need glasses soon. Probably next time I go to the optometrist. But that is a more common thing than what other people have here.

Blackthorne

Well, if anyone remembers the thread a while back, about weird medical experiences, you'd know that I suffer from Chronic Glomular Nephritits, which is now an End Stage Renal Disease.  Meaning that both my native kidneys in my body have failed (Either dead, or less that 10% of the nephrons functioning).

Kidney diesease is pretty awful, and I never thought it would happen to me.  It clouds my life a bit, having to undergo dialysis for about a year was tough.  But, there are people that are on dialysis for years, and I was lucky enough to undergo a Kidney Transplant about a year after my diagnosis (and near death experience!).  My father donated one of his kidneys to me, which was incredibly generous of him considering I'm a lazy pontificating bastard - but seriously, I got a chance that some people wait YEARS for, or never get at all.

The transplant hasn't been perfect, and there has been lots of problems, but I haven't had to do dialysis since November of 2003.  Dialysis is awful.  When I think about it...... it makes me shudder.  Anyway........ along with all the typical dramatic bullshit that goes along with such an event, there's been plenty of funny stories about it too.  Makes for an interesting life, that's for sure!

Petteri, I have the same thing, except tinnitus. I also go "huh?", and "what?" all the time, even when standing right in front of people. My hearing was also reduced by an ear infection left untreated. It's stupid when some people don't believe you when you tell them you don't hear all too well. But it's also awesome in ways. I hear bassy music almost twice as bassy as I did before ;D

Well for one thing, he doesn't go around injecting himself with insulin in front of everybody (something which another diabetic friend of mine does, which creeps me out cause I hate needles!)

I hate them to. I'm actualy darn scared of them. Maybee becouse when I gawe blood a few years back, the nurse mutilated my hand.
But back to the topic. I hawe to much stomach acid. So i'm not alowed to eat anything sour or anything that would stimulate the acid (like chewing gum).
It's not a MAJOR problem. Just a few pains in my stomach here and there. But I did hawe to go on a test (I don't know what it's caled in englesh, but in slovene it's caled gastroskopija).
Man that hurt. The put a few cm thick hose in my mouth and all the way down to the stomach. But I gues I'm lucky I didn't hawe to go to a koloskopija (they push a hose up your ass). :P

Hate needles, huh?Ã,  Try dialysis. They stick TWO 14 gauge needs in your arm to draw all the blood in your body into a machine that cleans it.

During last year I also partially forgot how to speak... it's not chronical, it's because of our drummer, and maybe partially because of that idiot I mentioned earlier... But I'm getting back to usual, I still (on the phone with my friends) go all gibberish sometimes...

But of what you people have brought up, I do that checking things five times after too... like, When I lock the keypad of my cellphone, I look at the screen several times to make sure I see the key icon on the screen...
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.
