waking up with a headache that could kill a whale and my ears still ringing I realised I had a pretty DAMN good week!

so let me tell you about it!

it all started with Elvis Fergis a nice bloke with some nice tunes he opened for Willy Mason, a young folk singer/songwriter wich was a lovely concert.
his lyrics are very clever and he really gets it going!

then I went to the Who!
the Cult opened for the who wich was pretty cool.
I'm a MAD who fan I've seen them before but never like this it was a great show lots of endless wire stuff great GREAT jams, just awesome on the whole!
I even got a wink from Pete Townshend, probably 'cause I was looking ridiculously happy or something.

then I went to see bowling for soup, not really my thing but I had fun.

then there was this festival with lots a dutch bands and I had a backstage pass wich equals free beer al day long HUZZAH!

and finally I had tickets to see Robyn Hitchcock and the venus 3, the whaddayasay? Robyn Hitchcock (some new wave guy) and the venus 3 (wich are actually 3 members from the minus 5! still doesn't ring a bell? the guitarist is Peter Buck who also does guitar on REM, ahhhhh now you get it?)
this was the small hall in paradiso, I've seen REM times before (even met Peter Buck and Mike Mills) but this time I could litterally sneeze on him if I wanted to.
awesome!

but wait! there's more!
same night in the big hall of paradiso Patti Smith performed! so I sneaked in and got to see her whole show wich was just magical I even remember weeping at times.
Patti Smith started earlier then Robyn Hitchcock so when I was watching Patti all of a sudden Peter Buck comes in and stands next to me! WHAT? YES! later he walks on stage and starts jamming with Patti they even played everybody hurts, fukkin awesome!

so then Robyn Hitchcock started wich was cool and after the encore is over Lenney Kaye (from the Patti Smith group) comes on and they start jamming for another half an hour, Peter Buck even played some drums.

let me tell you it was one hell of a night! Cameron Crowe could make a movie about it :P

so I woke up this morning headache and all and realised it's been a DAMN good week!

so how about you? what bands blew you away lately?

Saw Ron Carter, Hiromi, and Pat Metheny/Brad Mehldau this semester. All very awesome shows!

I saw The Decemberists on Halloween and they played for something like over 2 hours, it was awesome. They did about 30 minutes of REM cover songs at the end, I'm not really a fan of REM but I enjoy The Decemberists muchly. They came out dressed as Ninjas [for halloween] and rolled around on stage and fought with swords then had a costume competition in the middle of the show.

Then I saw Of Montreal in Massachusetts and they were pretty great so we saw them again in Brooklyn a few weeks after that where they played a karaoke show. They did their set and then fell to the back and played music for people from the audience to come up and sing. Michael Showalter hosted and Paul Rudd and David Wain came out and sang 2 songs. It was pretty awesome...

And before all this I saw The Tigerlillies at Mass MoCCa and that show REALLY blew me away. I want to see them in Europe so hard because they have this whole circus stage show act thingie... Damn me and my American blood!
"This must be a good time to live in, since Eric bothers to stay here at all"-CJ also: ACHTUNG FRANZ!

Last (rock) concert I went to was when I saw Tony Levin Band. They opened, of course, with barbershop quartet style a capella. And they played "Elephant Talk," which was awesome, except that Tony Levin singing doesn't really work all that well for that song. I really enjoyed all the material they played from Resonator, which was brand new to my ears. They also played "Sleepless," which was very nice.
