UFO Experiences

I think the main thing to remember, which is what Evenwolf touched upon. Is that we are uneducated to what space looks like on a daily basis. Especially compared to a NASA scientist.

What does space look like normally? We as adventure game authors don't know. People look at HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS of footage and find the 1 thing that doesn't jive with what we think space should be like and we immediately assume it's a UFO. We'd be just as right if we assumed it was a football floating in space. When you assume UFO you're taking a backlog of knowledge about which there are innumerable amounts of bad science behind it and applying it to what could very well be anything.

When the camera zooms in on that tether video, how come the dust particles get bigger and fuzzier and turn into discs with black dots in the center? Not because you're zooming in on a platter UFO but because you're zooming in on a small particle that is being distorted by the focal point of the lens. Just like supposed orb footage from ghost photos.

You work with cameras and have a knowledge about focal length and such, is this not what's going on?

If you show footage from a movie to someone who does not know how the earth and it's atmosphere works and in this movie a lens flare shoots across the movie lens, they may immediately think that a series of UFOs has just shot across the scene.

"UFO's seem to like thunderstorms, and congregate above storm clouds perhaps to gain energy." What about the idea that there are naturally occurring weather phenomena that happens in thunderstorms that we misinterpret as alien in origin?

"If they're clouds why do they move over a storm and then stop and hold position?" That's a good question, what is the scientific answer? Do you accept the scientific answer or do you automatically reject it?

http://www.rense.com/general49/blurfo.htm  this is a neat site I just found, it's a believer in orbs and other ufo styled images explaining how cameras work and why blurry pictures of normal things look like orbs and ufos.

Anyway, not to try and rain on parades but don't you think it's odd that you spent all this time reading about this stuff and then saw another UFO later? Would you call shenanigans on someone saying they spent all day reading about fairys and goblins and then went for a walk that night and saw some?

UFO's?

Bullocs, they are obviously the Matrix correcting flaws!  :=

I think that Aliens exist, and they are visiting us.

I think they are smart enough to cover the vast distances of the space and are intelligent enough to develope a stealth technology that helps him not to be detected by our radars.

And I think that they are idiot enough for not remembering to switch the lights off when they arrive to our orbit, because they allways are photographed as blurry light shources.  :P
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

Darth Mandarb

First off ... are those UFOs?

Yes, they absolutely are UFOs.

Why?  Because they are objects that are flying which we can't positively identify.

Now... are they aliens.

No.  I am 99.99999999% positive they are not.  I leave that 0.0000000001% of chance in there just 'cause only a Sith deals in absolutions.  Also because I'd love to meet E.T.

But the video quality of all these "sightings" is such crap that it's clear to me it's just normal anomalies being caught out of focus and all "shaky-cam" like.  When somebody can bring me something like this: UFO over Haiti I will maybe start paying more attention.  Don't get me wrong ... I find it intriguing (all the UFO hype) but I'm not a believer.

I look on the odds of encountering an alien race like this:

If there were only 2 people on the entire Earth and both of them "knew" the other existed and the only thing they did was search for the other person ... if they lived to be 1,000 years old and spent their entire lives searching the odds of them actually finding one another is so remote I can't put a number to it.

Now ... multiply those already astronomical odds by the sheer infinite vastness of space and time.  Sorry ... to my way of thinking we'll never find another form of life we can communicate with (or that might be looking for us).  I do believe they are out there, I just don't think we'll ever find one another.

DISCLAIMER - this statement is being made in the year 2008.  I reserve the right to, at any time, change my opinion given the advances in technology sure to arise in years to come.  Given that, 100 years ago, flying aircraft were 'impossible', who knows what tomorrow brings?

I'm not 100% sure, but I want to believe.

In regards to the three clips Mods posted... I'm no expert, but....

****************

The first "ufo" is the same as all the other white blobs... the only reason it appears to make a right turn is due to several factors... firstly lens is curved causing distortion around the edges (even at the top of the screen some of the white blobs appear to tail off slightly because of this).  The only reason that this is more obvious at the bottom of th screen is the fact that the item is a hell of a lot closer to to vessel.

Secondly, the camera is higher than the ufo and moving in the opposite direction... while it is directly over the blob, the blob appears to be moving vetically up the picture, but as the camera goes left the blob, quite logically, appears to go to the right of the screen... this makes it look like it has changed direction... and bear in mind the phenomenal speeds these things are really moving at... much faster than it looks on the camera.

It might also be worth bearing in mind the fact that the earth is curved... on top of this, I don't know if the blob is orbiting or if it is just passing, but whatever the case it must surely be curving due to the gravitational pull... this may also go towards creating the optical illusion we have seen.

*********

The second video is more difficult for me to debunk due to my lack of technical knowledge... However...

The 'orbs' in the first section appear to be reflecting whatever the light source is coming from the bottom left (my guess is that it's the Sun)... I can't explain what they are, but they're not producing their own light.

I can't explain the blob in the thunderstorm either, but to me it makes sense that it would be nothing more than, say, an aeroplane... the strange aura around it is merely created by the static and/or electromagnetic energy created by the electrical storm.

I hate the way this guy calls them "extra-terrestrial craft" like it's obvious.

***********

Video 3 is a complete fake... that line in the middle and all those "stars swimming" around it....  for a moment ask yourself 'is this even in space'?... I don't think so... it' looks more like fireflies buzzing around a stick-insect.

Or equally, it looks just as likely to have been filmed in a microscrope with lots of weird sperm-like cells swimming around something very tiny that resembles a microscopic twig

And is it really a "Banned NASA UFO Footage".... judging from the clip it comes from "UFO Magazine"... I'm sure NASA would have let them release that if it wasn't fake... and I'm surprised NASA has let it remain on Youtube for 4 months...

Do you know that those "Alien spacecrafts" seen in the poster were made by Billy Meier with pieces of washing machines, no?

I think the belief in aliens is a fantastic thing.     I would LOVE if it were true.    I just find it highly unlikely that humans can count on alien technology falling in our laps.

I think one day interstellar travel WILL exist.   But it will be the human imagination that creates it.

The human imagination is a very strong power.  Never underestimate it.   That's why I am very cautious when a human claims anything of the sort of an alien sighting.     WE are the aliens.      Outside ( or even inside ) this galaxy there may very well be extraterrestrial life.    But I wouldn't count on anything that has developed speech or the ability to use tools.  Humans hit the jackpot with those two.     So we need to reach out farther and farther into the universe... rather than wait for the universe to come to us.

Yeah the 3rd video Mods posted was definitely without a question a microscope with some sort of microorganisms swimming about.  I've seen hundreds of crazy things in microscopes when I took science class many years back in high school.  I remember changing the focus would allow you to see layers upon layers of microorganisms that weren't quite in focus previously.  It's just image trickery my friends.

EDIT: Apparently I was completely wrong.  I had replayed other clips on youtube.  At first I thought this was some hoax footage completely and that it wasn't even from Nasa, rather just some idiot with his microscope.  I later found much clearer footage on youtube showing exactly what they claim it is during the clip "sunlight being reflected off space debris".  Just as MrColossal had explained with the 'Blurfo' effect.  I honestly still haven't a clue why it looks the way it does, like a tube laying flat with no rotation; like you think it would be doing with the cable snapping and all.

Oh well, either way I don't care what the footage is from.
I believe there is other sentient life in this vast galaxy.  But I believe they haven't visited us.  Also to believe there is sentient life that has technology beyond ours is hard to imagine.  How humans have united over the many thousands of years and created verbal and written language, a government, and advanced technology, etc; I find this to be an astronomical fluke in evolution.

Thanks for all the comments! hehe, no time to reply right now but I will get round to it soon. Glad it's got you guys intrigued though ;)

"If they are UFO's, they are being controlled by some pretty retarded alien pilots."

Haha, some guy said that as a reply to the third video. It struck me as something to ponder -- if these aliens are so advanced and intelligent, why do they keep fucking up and getting spotted by random civilians?

Surely if they have the capacity for FTL travel and the ability to disappear at a moments notice, they would be able to not be spotted by some redneck every two seconds...

Anyway, I tend to look at these things logically. And logic is against aliens being among us:

1. Like mandarb said, the chances of a planet like Earth being close to Earth are astronomically small. There are millions of variables which must be in perfect balance to make a planet inhabitable -- the chance of it happening within traveling distance (even Faster-Than-Light) is very small.

2. If life did exist on another planet, chances are it would be in the form of algae or something else with minimal intelligence.

3. If life did exist on another planet, and they were advanced to the point where space travel is possible, and they were close enough for the trip to be made fairly easily, isn't it a little bit narcissistic to think that they would waste all their time just hovering around us in droves, monitoring every little thing we do? I mean, they'd have the whole bloody universe to explore, I'd like to think there's more interesting things in it than us, and our tethered satellites...

Emerald has mirrored my opinion, and wonderfully so.

All those probabilities seem spot-on from a logic point of view.   I'd like to add this theoretical.   If you believe there are flying saucers at Area 51 because an alien crash landed and left us his ship......  (no not the usual question of "wouldnt our government already be using them?"  but...)

Wouldn't it be probable that dumb aliens from across the universe have access to the UFOs too?    If you really believe in UFO Auto Pilot AND you believe the universe is teeming with humanoids.... then its likely we will also be visited by the Walmart shoppers of the universe who stole the crafts from the peaceful intelligent aliens.    And that my friends, is scary.

And that my friends.... is who we would be if aliens gave us their lightspeed ships.   I'm not exactly sure we deserve the technology until we build it ourselves.

According to the BBC Britain's Ministry of Defence has started releasing its reports on UFOs, and will do so in chronological order over the next 4 years (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7398784.stm).

They're supposedly free to download for the first month, but there's no link. Anyway, thought that might be of interest...

Edit: Here's the link http://ufos.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

Ahh yep, read about that in the paper today. Another well timed co-incidence :)

Well, after reading some of the reports, it seems pretty clear the consistent types of UFO in the UK over the past 20 years are the same as the 3 sightings I've had. Simple travelling east to west, or any direction directly along the compass, plus the one that moves left and right, up and down, and the static one that later dissapears. Awesome, very interesting stuff :)

Emerald

So now they can fly around top secret military technology in public airspace as much as they want -- all they have to do is file a "ufo report" about it and post it on the internet...
