Volunteers wanted to run AGS....

SSH

It has come to my attention that Some PeopleTM don't like that I'm doing the Pick of the Month on the games page here, or that I have been doing the AGS Awards. So, I'd like to reiterate that if someone else wants to do either of these things they are quite welcome to take over the responsibility. Or if they don't want to do them, but want to make suggestions for games to include or awards to have or anything.

Also, if you have any problem with me posting a lot, or any game reviews I may have done on other sites, or releasing so many Princess Marian games, or anything, really, please let me know directly: in this thread or in PM. Maybe I'm inviting a "slag off SSH" thread, but then maybe I deserve that. I tend to be pretty insensitive about stepping on other's toes and I'm sorry if I've hurt anyone's feelings, etc.

One thing I'm not doing, though, is leaving. Anyone who says they are usually comes back and I won't delude myself that I don't enjoy the forums. So if you wanted me to leave: tough luck.

Well, I think that the problem is in people. Everybody wants different things, you can't satisfy all, there will always be somebody who will oppose you.

As far as I am concerned, i think you are doing wonderfull job.

Haha, my fishing for compliments worked!  :=

Well, your "faster than a speeding haggis" claim has yet to be validated by rigorous scientific testing. In spite of that, I think Most Peopleâ,,¢ really appreciate the contributions you've made to AGS and the AGS community.

Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

You're an ass, but I love like respect don't hate you for it. *Certain people* are stupid. Ignore them.

Besides, *I* run AGS, not you. I control CJ's strings, after all.

Yep, I agree. Unless they're *really* bugging you, that is ;) But still, if they can't even tell you directly what their problem is, just ignore them.

Personally I have no problem with the pick of the month feature, and I admire the moderation around here. I think it's only fair that the people who contribute most to the forums and community have a way of bringing attention to the games they like. Of course there could be a monthly poll for the best game of the month, but with all the competitions, awards, and the download statistics for each game, I'd say everybody already has ample chance to shine.

MrColossal

let me guess... People think you're deliberatly ignoring their games for pick of the month because you hate them or you're corrupt or something.

Nah, there must be something wrong with SSH. Nobody complained on me when I did pick of the month.

Maybe a rotation of people who regularly visit the site is in order, and I'm not just suggesting moderators.  I would be open for such a thing if we could get 4-5 people to do a rotation so it doesn't get boring.

MrColossal

Why? SSH is doing it and that's fine. If people want to harbor illusions of mod favoritism or something like that [assuming that is a complaint] no amount of tweaking will please them until you put their game on the Pick of the Month.

Well, a broader range of people means a broader range of preferences, that's all I'm talking about.  SSH likes what he likes, and he will pick those games.  Someone else may like and select a game SSH would not, however, and that's exactly why I think a rotation might be good for everyone.

SSH's doing a great job in running the awards and picks of the month, and most important of all - he is punctual. I remember the times when the pick of the month wasn't changed for months and no-one complained, or when the awards ran in late spring.

R4L

I don't see why anyone should hate SSH. He has contributed a nice variety of useful modules, and as for Pick of the Month, I think he is doing a good job. I think Some Peopleâ,,¢ should give him a smack on the back!  :=

Or Pick of The Month could be done away with, and a simple random game entry could be displayed.

Personally I have no problem with SSH continuing PotM, his opinion is as valid as anyone elses.

I'm always amazed when people complain about things like this, were someone is taking the time to do something they don't really have to for very little in return. I haven't seen any bias in what SSH has contributed to these forums, and I have no ulterior motive in saying that.

Moderators always come under fire, 99% of the time unfairly, and I'm amazed that they would WANT to continue. But they do, and I commend them for that.

This is, sadly, true. I actually wrote the code for 3D and Lens Flare support in AGS back in 1987, but AGA has so far not permitted me to release it.
