I recently installed a number of extensions in my Firefox browser and they are terrific.  The extension manager is great and the extensions are really small in file size.

I am using and highly recommend the following Firefox extensions.

  • Image Zoom -  Right click any image and zoom in/out

  • downTHEMall - Download all images, links, mp3's or whatever from the current page.  Really cool...

  • Disabl Targets for Download - Gets rid of that blank page you somtimes get when downloading a file to disk.

If anyone else has some favorite Firefox extensions list them here.  Cheers!

  • AniDisable - Right click to enable/disable gif animations

I have installed these but haven't had much chance to try them out yet

  • fireFtp - Puts an ftp client in a browser window or tab.  Lacks ability to store login info at the moment but this is on a todo list.  When this get's implemented I'll start using it more often.

  • ScrapBook - Same and manage web page collections on your hard disk.

  • Bookmarks Synchronizer - Upload and download bookmatks to a WebDAV server.

I can't remember what it was called, but it was under developer tools, it gave FireFox an eyedropper tool so you could pull colours you liked from websites, giving you the HEX and RGB information to put into your paint program or your code.

AdBlock is utterly essential. Within a few days of using it and blocking any ads you encounter, you can get through the rest of your time without often needing to block many more ads.

Nuke Anything will remove any object on a screen, images, tables, whatever. Also comes in handy if there's something annoying you about the way a page looks.

Gmail Notifier tells you when you have new Gmail messages.

Download Manager Tweak makes the Firefox downloading look and work a lot nicer.

Mouse Gestures is good for those of us that got used to Opera's mouse gestures. If you've never used mouse gestures, you should start, it speeds up your browsing a lot, very intuitive.

SSH

I used to use the Tabbrowser Extensions a lot in the 0.9 days, but it was buggy and doesnt work on 1.0. It had the great feature of "CLose left tabs" and Close right tabs" which I really miss  :(

Chatzilla IRC client!

Gcache easy to check if page is in Google cache

Webmail Compose

plus Adblock, tab preferences, disable targets download

I have about 18 of them. I will list them later when I am not so busy ;)

Timosity

I used to have more extentions but since the versions kept changing and installing my system again, I never got them all again.

ones I have installed now

Adblock - makes you breakfast

Paste and Go - pastes url's directly from the clipboard and goes directly to the site, it's identical to pasting and then pressing enter without having to press enter [a standard Opera feature]

Image Zoom - An invaluable tool for the Critic's Lounge

Tab Clicking Options - Customize what happens if you middle-click, double-click tabs or the tab bar.

FlashBlock - I don't mind ads as long as they are not intrusive. FlashBlock replaces flash animations with a play button so I can play them only if I want to.

BugMeNot - I hate having to register at some site I'll use maybe once to read an article. BugMeNot gets existing usernames/passwords from a database and fills them in for me.

Ad Block is by far the best extension for firefox.
But when I discovered I could block the ads in Opera I went back to it. I lost no functionality, but it's faster.

Mouse Gestures
Mentioned above.

Adblock
Mentioned above.

Paste and Go
Right click and hit "paste and go" in the address bar if you have a URL in the clipboard. Similar to Opera.

Add Bookmark Here
No need to use the crud bookmark manager to add a bookmark anymore. I should jibble with it sometime and add an "Add Folder here" option.

Download Manager Tweak
Open downloads in a new tab, not a small window.

downTHEMall!
Right click on a page and use downTHEMall! (sic) to download all mp3s/images/whatnot present in the page or linked to from the page.

DictionarySearch
Select a word, right click and load it up in an online dictionary of your choice.

Tabbrowser Extensions
Makes tabs in Firefox useful (and similar to Opera). Most of the extensions I install seem to reintroduce features present in Opera.

It's only the version from 1.12.2004 which doesn't work in 1.0. I found the version just prior to it after some googling. Still buggy though sadly.

I'm going to go through this guide later from the mozillazine forum and "Rebuild TBE's featureset with other plugins" as it claims is possible.

Strazer: I used to use bugmenot, but I was never able to actually get a working username/password pair for any of the sites I tried. Have you had greater luck?

The few times I have tried it worked very well. It sometimes takes a few tries when sites closed some fake accounts.

LGM

I use Tabbrowser Extensions and it works flawlessly.. Where have you guys been?
You. Me. Denny's.

AGA

Oh yeah, I forgot to list Tabbrowser Extensions for some reason. Most useful.

Thought some of you might be interested in this. It's a search plugin for the AGS games page. For those that don't know, unRAR it to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins then restart Firefox for it to appear [Linux/other OS users will have to work it out for themselves...].

Gregjazz

I notice you put the file in the "crap" directory on your server. ;D

AGA

....everything that's not an image or game goes in there. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

Good to see so many people using firefox
When I was a little kid we had a sand box. It was a quicksand box. I was an only child... eventually.

Ad-Block is the main thing I like in Firefox, although I'm actually too lazy to block ads most of the time it's a bit more refined than the Opera thing I use (which I have never added an ad url to).  I also use Firefox+downTHEMall when I need to get all the links in a page (totally not just porn galleries, honest), if anyone knows of an Opera button or whatever to do that it'd be useful to have, because I do prefer the way Opera does downloads aside from that.

And of course nobody should browse without mouse gestures.  I only have a few things visible in my opera UI by default, the address bar, a bugmenot button, the page style controller thing and the tab bar.  Cutting out all the buttons I have gestures and keys for makes things look nicer, and I browse faster.

Opera is better for me, but I'm not trying to start an argument, use what you like, I do use Firefox sometimes.

Do you have stats, CJ?  Is IE still as inexplicably popular as it was before?

Pressing ctrl-j can be quite useful.

That was too obvious, I have had the links panel on my sidebar forever but never thought to use it.

Two of my favorite extensions:

Web Developer - adds a toolbar with dozens of features.  Enable/disable almost anything, validate code, view a speed report, outline page elements, etc.  Don't know what I'd do without it.

FlashBlock - Know how annoying flash ads can be?  If they slip past Adblock, this extension replaces them with a "play" button.  Only view the flash animations you want to.
