dose anybody know why my game link is broken download works

Ali

Hi Igor,

Please don't keep posting in the Competitions and Activities board, posts like this aren't supposed to go there.

I think it's because the links don't work. One goes to www.mediafire.com the other fails to go to www.media fire.com.

Khris

There are two game entries linked in your profile.
The first one contains two links, one redirects (or does it...?) to the mediafire main page, I guess because they can't find the file, the mirror leads to a bigbluecup 404 error because you've omitted the http:// and the link is thus interpreted as relative.
The second entry contains one link that leads to http://www.media fire.com, but due to the space it's also broken.

It looks like you're trying to enter "http://www.mediafire.com", which is pointless. You need the link to the file, the one they showed you after you uploaded the game.

It's going to look similar to this:
http://www.mediafire.com/?woewhf9a8sdd93m

Simple, you added your game to the db 6 times each with a different word for "unexplainable" and none of the links for any of the entries work. Go back to one of the pages and click "edit this game" at the bottom and then add the right link and fill out the rest of the form fully and the 'link not working' will be removed.

What? Now you've linked one of them to Ghost's game, what are you playing at?

Ali

Excellent use of "what are you playing at". I don't think I've heard anyone say that in years.

Try to say "this is a strange kettle of fish" at the next opportunity.

Oh big thanks for that one! I don't think I've ever heard it before (either that, or took it literally).

WOW - veeery clever!
Now you linked to the uploading site - to make some of us upload a game for you, or what  ???

You should seriously clean that mess up and delete all those "entries" of yours in the database.
Please do!   :-\

Ali

This is going beyond a strange kettle of fish and developing into a rum do.

Okay, this broken link leads me into my mediafire account. Am I missing something, or is this the next big thing to do?

[edit]
I am out of proper English witticism but feel inclined to utter a few German ones.

Step 1: Delete all those useless entries in the database.

Step 2: Go to www.mediafire.com.

Step 3: Click the big white folder in the middle of the screen.

Step 4: Click the white window (with the big '+' sign in the centre) that appears.

Step 5: Find the file (that you have already zipped and named) that you want to upload in the file browser window. Highlight it and click "OK".

Step 6: The file you have chosen will now appear in the white window. Click the green "UPLOAD" button.

Step 7: Once your file has been uploaded, click on the little "COPY LINK" text on the right side of the white window. The url of your uploaded file will know be copied to the Windows clipboard.

Step 8: Create a new text document on your desktop, open it, right-click anywhere on it, and select "PASTE" from the context menu. Save the document.

Step 9. Create a new entry in the AGS game database. Fill in you information, and right click on the "DOWNLOAD URL" entry. Select "PASTE" from the context menu. Your file URL will appear (if it doesn't, open the text document you saved earlier, highlight your url and select "COPY" from the context menu). Do NOT save the database entry until you are sure it has the correct information.

Step 10: Save the database entry.

...

I probably could have whittled it down to five steps, but...ehh.

Sorry, never mind about that. Users don't have that ability, and I'm not sure why I suddenly thought they did.

An admin will delete them eventually.

If there is no way to delete it yourself,
make sure to modify it* into something like "invalid"
(and please don't forget to change the link you set to Ghost's game)
until the entries will be deleted from someone else.  :P

*[Go to the page/entry, scroll down to the bottom of the page until you reach nearly the last line and you find the link for editing it.]

Right, the English language needs an utterly new expression to describe a situation this weird. I'm plumping for "not the explainable".

This situation is totally not the explainable.

EDIT: I hope that didn't sound too unhelpful, I was only being silly. Good luck to ig299, I say!

LimpingFish

We're either dealing with someone young, someone who isn't well versed in English, and/or someone who is only marginally computer/internet experienced.

Hopefully it's sorted now.
