Why there are so lazy musicians here?

I was just wondering... to me it seems like the music from all other game making parts (graphics, animation, modeling, programming, scripting, story writing etc.) is the least active area in here forums. I feel it's so ridiculous when lookinng at members. I mean... it's so ridiculous, there are a lot of people marked as being musicians but then again there's no competitors at tune contests and everyone seems to be winning by default at this rate! Also, any topic that relates to music, get least amount of replies! I feel this is something to be worried about: A lot of passive musicians... or they just like to pretend to have titles on their profile?  :P

Well, in otherhand it's better for me: More available projects to get involved --> Profit!!!  8)

This should be wake up alarm now... Let's get going! We need more musician guys like this famous finnish artistic artist:

One thing that I would like to see happen with films is for music not to be treated as just one more ingredient, but as an integral and fundamental part, due to its fatal capacity to affect the mood of the movie.

For fuck's sake there is an AGS Band!
I know because I' m in it (and we're still pretty busy to say) but to the outside world we might not be very well know.
A shame indeed! :P
Life is like an adventure without the pixel hunts.

Wonkyth

Guess what?
I'M GETTING REAL INTERNETS!
Which means I can use Skype.
Which means I can join the band!

...Once I have a keyboard to use, or at least a microphone worth singing into.
Ah well, getting closer.
A keyboard is at the top of my "To have enough money for one day" list, so I'll get there.
Once I have one, writing music should be a good deal less tedious, and so I might even enter some of the comps. :P
Now all I need is a few thousand...
* Wonkyth goes of to try and win first prize and ProgComp.

AGS band? Great, I never even noticed that. I use Skype as well so maybe we could try some improv sessions? I'm just more of one-man-band so basically I could do everything alone... except no samples can replace real drums  ;)

I disagree. You have 3 types of musicians here.

1. The people who turn up, don't say much, get involved in a few projects and become familiar with developers, so they don't even need to be ranting and raving on the forum about what they can do from an early period.

2. The people who turn up, say they can make music, don't actively involve themselves in projects and fizzle away until a year later when they re-post about their abilities.

3. The people who turn up and just say "Im a musician" and post it here or in the Recruit thread and are never seen or heard of again.

Basically, the musicians here are sorted. They don't need to be wailing left right and center about stuff, nor are they grasping for profit. At least, none of the decent AGS musicians I know have ever grasped for it. Seriously, you will fail miserably if you've come here to make music for profit. Try an independent films board! ;)

Don't take it the wrong way, but the competitions don't mean much to me. As a musician, of sorts, I'm not really interested in proving I can write a piece of music about "tomatoes in a space shuttle" or what not. I did that in school. So I'm here to just work on games, when and where needed, and usually that doesn't require ever making a public post!  :=

AnalogGuy

I was kidding about having profits... except that surely will have mental profit of enjoyment of achieving something. I also do not take too seriously about the tune contests, but I just feel a pity about someone winning by default.

Well, you answered your own question then dude. There are not so many musicians in the competitions because they're busy working on games for the mental profit you talk of. The comps are a great way to get people involved and bring out new talent and work on your skills for the said art, whether its music or backgrounds. Great for when you've got some spare time and some willingness! But just as many people are too busy with actual projects, some don't even have time to just chat randomly about stuff here. Also people who do it day by day may be sick of it by night to an extent, so they probably wouldn't choose to do what they do for a living for fun, for a little gif.

If people win by default then they deserve it for taking part, and hopefully they realize there's nothing personal about a lack of other entries - people probably just have other stuff to do. I'm sure what I said about me and tune contests strikes a chord with a couple of other musicians here, too. But I understand what you're saying.

As you called me lazy, I thought I'd give you a thought out answer, not a joke, or a gif of some guy clapping from Godlikeproductions.com. :P

Yeah... right... now I feel stupid...  :-[    "lazy" was the wrong word

Anyway, as you can see from the video I put there... I wasn't completely serious about the topic.  ;)

but for example, in critics section someone posts a song and wants comments about it, but eventually will get just a very few replies... whereas for example, someone posting graphics will get several dozens of replies... but maybe that is related to fact that there's much more people doing graphics than music?

Graphic images are usually immediately visible, while songs might even require to... *shiver* download a file and then open it.

In addition, I might be (read 'am always') listening to music or the radio and it's an extra hassle to pause it.

Plus I have no understanding of music whatsoever, so couldn't really offer suggestions.

Mods puts it well, especialy about the lack of people taking part in the tune contest.

What? Since when are gifs wrong?

PS: As you can see I am super lazy, so lazy I am using Mods reply, so I take no offence on that part. But I do join contests whenever I can.  ;D

I'll betcha five you're not alive if you don't know his name.

I dunno, I'd kinda like to hear more from the AGS musicians in the comps:)
Keeping to oneself is all well and good, but an active forum is a healthy forum:D
I for one like joining comps not so much to test skill, but usually just to get away from my daily asset grind and generally interact with other AGS forum members.

Igor Hardy

I'm lazy and I'm no musician, thus the theory of there being lazy musicians is falsified through the use of pure logic.

DoorKnobHandle

Well, I posted a music c&c thread for one of my songs pretty much exactly when you started this thread here. There has only been one response and about 25 listeners. Why don't you all go there and give me some feedback? :D

HERE is the link.
