found the game. i'd played it before but thought it was calloed insta game. i quit the first time cuz stupid me i didn't read the manual and didn't know how to access my inventory anyhoo...

I used the fish food with the stick by one of the lakes

I found the game too buggy and gave up

I kept thinking that I'd picked stuff up and lost it - then I realised there is a scoll up or down on the side of the inventory! Can't tell you how many times I restarted the game before I noticed that

To call the fish

you need to use something "old" to attract the fish

The stick doesn't work with the fish food!
Still not certain which item to use;

Call the fish using the skull, make sure you picked it up near the entrance to the crack in the sand* before you met the hermit- then give it the fish food - then it will give you the crystal

Then use the stick with the item just received!

I can give you more hints if you do want to finish the game - don't know about you but I hate it when a game beats me - bugs or fiendishly clever game creator
