I read in the completed games forum about a letter in a bottle, and a fishing rod, but I can't find them

I found the bottle, in the screen where the tree with the coconut is, go up to the right hand corner and you will see fishing rod, walk to the far right and he will go up to it and use the fishing rod and you get bottle. There is a note in the bottle, if you interact with bottle you can get note. From the few hints on completed games I think you have to give empty bottle to the crazy man and he will give you a rock, but I can't figure out how to do that because everytime I talk to him he then disappears so can't give the bottle to him.
Now where did you find the telescope and the nitrate?
Oh also in the screen where sandcastle is, look in the bushes, I found a plank. Have you got that yet?

Now just have to figure out how to give empty bottle to crazy man?

You just have to be quick - get the bottle out of your inventory, so you can scroll round to it when you've talked to the guy.

Thanks Oneiro, I did finally manage to give him the bottle and like you said you have to be really quick.  Not sure if we are both stuck at same place or not, not sure what to do with the coconut, figure you have to make it into a bomb. I found another chasm, went back to get the plank to get over it and discovered you can't carry telescope and plank, you have to put telescope back, which I did and proceeded to put the plank on the other chasm, saw an island in the distance but it says its too far away to see so I guess you need telescope which I don't have because I had to put it back in order to get the plank so there must be another way to see the island or we have to figure out how to have both the telescope and the plank or a way over the second chasm. I won't get back to the game until really late tonight so maybe by then you will have got further and can help me lol

To the right of the river/chasm there are steps cut into the rock, but he won't climb them without some kind of help. I assume you need to use the liana somehow, but no luck yet.

However, after picking up the telescope and going back, the plank is still over the river and also still over the deep chasm to the right of the fishing rod scene.   I used the telescope on the island in the distance and was able to view it and Indiana Jones.    I went back and picked up the plank from where the telescope orignally was and now it is in my inventory with the other planks still in place!    Oh, well.... this is where I am stuck and have not been able to get any thing to work.   Any ideas about the alter and what fits in the hole?

I am stuck, I cannot get across the top gap across the river with the telescope, I have racked my brains and cant find the answer to this it says I cant carry the telescope and the plank of wood can anybody help me here please.

There is the river, where you need to use the plank to cross it.  The steps are in the 'mountain' on the other side-they look like little holes in the rock.
The chasm is up to the right of the fishing pole, and you also need the plank to cross it.
Haven't figured out how to carry the plank and the telescope at the same time. 
Someone said they interacted w/ the wild river while standing on the plank, but he only says "not a good idea"...Nothing happened.

When you interact w/ the plank, and choose "yes", you go to a whole new area, and get a device to climb up the mountain AND you can carry the telescope at the same time!

  ok I sank inthe river and went into the contest and got a pick  used that to go up steps.  now i am stuck on mountain without way to get off. I dont have the board because i have the telescope......Now what?
