Frodo

Stace, I wrote my own walkthrough for this.  I recommend you reload a game from *before* you enter that room.

Spoiler
Cast Reversal spell before entering the room  :)
[close]

You can find the full walkthrough at Reloaded.org, but this might help you.   ;)
Spoiler
When you enter the room, the big statue comes to life as you get close to it.  First, CAST TRIGGER on the statue to make it crumble.  Now CAST FETCH on an unlit candle.  This will break Ad Avis' spell.  He is furious, and will use his shape-changing spells on you.  Fortunately, if you have Reversal activated, it will rebound off you.   ;D

Thanks heaps, I'll give it a go!  ;D

I'm having the same problem as Stace. I have followed the walkthrough exactly. I cast trigger, open, and reverse, then enter the final room. Ad Avis starts speaking, and I cannot go to the spell menu before the statue kills me every time.
I've tried it many times. I don't understand it.
Any help would be appreciated, as the rest of the game has been fine.

Nevermind guys, I got the answer off another message board. It was simply because my health was too low. I checked and it was only 17. I simply a health pill, and the statue no longer killed me.

Frodo

Glad you solved it.   ;D

I'm playing this game on a laptop (which is probably murder to my keyboard) so I had to change the keys for the fighting. But when I try to fight against the warrior girl, I can't attack her. I put the attacking moves to 7 and 9 but when I press these keys, nothing happens. Is that normal, am I not supposed to attack her, or is this some kind of bug that other keys won't work?  ???

I had to press Num Lock to unlock the numeric keypad keys.  Try doing that.

Ok, first of all I love the game!  You guys did a great job re-making it. ;)

Now here is my gripe. ;D  My first time playing I got caught in a dead end right at the beginning. :'(  I imported a fighter and went and changed my money and bought some stuff including the Upgraded sword from Issur.  Then Day 2 the Saurus Salesman comes around and I can't afford to purchase a saurus because I spend my money on a sword. :'(  Which is my fault I know. :-\  So I wanted to go earn some money by fighting monsters.  But battle is so much harder in your game than the original I was unable to Obtain the money before the game kills me for not buying the saurus. :'(  So then I figured I rather than restore a game before I did all the work talking to people and haggling to get communication, I would look on the internet and see if there are any cheats that I could use just to get past this part and then get rid of the cheat and continue.  Then I found this thread telling me that you cant access the cheats until you beat the game with a perfect score. :'(  So I guess I am stuck going back to that saved game back before all that work.

So I guess my gripe is the easy to fall into dead end at the beginning and having to finish the game with a perfect score is a little extreme to get access to the cheat codes.  I could see having to finish the game first or even finish with each class but having to get a perfect score seems extreme.

Sorry if I sound too critical.  I really do like the game and I am enjoying it.  The visuals are beautiful and you did a great job in virtually every aspect of the game.  Thank you for the great job you did! ;D

I have this trouble. I've found the Thieves Guild and all, done some small quests, but from Shapeir, how do we get to Raseir?
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

popolon

question: i cant seem to use spells in combat, but i can use them when not in combat

i am a fighter is this the cause? can i do anything to work around it?

Frodo

Hehe Popolon   :)

As a fighter, you would be better to use weapons for combat.  But before going out into the desert, you need to train a lot, in the training room.  You'll also get a run-down in the training room, of the combat actions you can perform.

;)

popolon

yes. i understand that weapons are best to use for a warrior.

but i gave my warrior magic powers. i can use the magic powers,  but i cant cast zap while in combat, or any other spell

when i play wizard, i can use the fighting controls (numpad) and the spells (QWEASD). i dont see why i cant cast a force bolt with my warrior while in combat, while i can cast force bolt when not in combat.

maybe i'm doing something wrong? i understand the game will be harder maybe, but i chose to play a warrior with magic skills.

popolon

turns out it was the shield - i put in in storage and now i can use spells in combat as well as use the sword :)

great game so far.. ! how do i turn on the lamp btw?

mehhh

First of all i love the Quest for Glory games, and the QFG2 Remake I find awsome. I played the 4th as a kid and i'm on a mission to work my way from 1 to 5. I'm playing 2 as a fighter. I am in the Dungeoun of Rafier and i don't have the Object to give to the Katta guy there. I think i could have bought it earlier, but i now don't have it and my saved game is too far to go back to shapier. Do i have to start all the way over?   :(

Who Has Defeated Issur In An Arm Wrestle As A Fighter?
Whoever Has Can You PLEASE Tell Me How Much Strength You Need In Order To Defeat Him  :D

I joined just to say how much I truly and utterly appreciate what the staff at AGS has done. I'd like to be able to say I've played games such as King's Quest, but I never did as a kid. I will say that what I did play almost exclusively was the Quest for Glory series by Sierra, and a few others later like Gabriel Knight. The one I always disliked the most was QFG2 because of the outdated graphics and at the time, I didn't really type all that well (two fingers!).

When I heard you were doing a remake, I could hardly stay in my seat and I downloaded it the moment it was released. Thank you so much!! It's a very wonderful and enjoyable game, the graphics are great and in keeping with the other VGAs of the series, and I must say that I love walking through the streets of Shapier and wondering what I'll see next: clothesline, plants hanging from windows, elaborate doors. One time I even saw someone leap across the tops of the walls!

Really and truly excellent job! Sometimes I do have a bit of bug, like with my fighter. I'd beaten him already in arm-wrestling and then the Air Elemental showed up and even after talking with Keapon, the 'tell about air elemental' didn't show up. However, the 'combination' for menu of parser and point and click came in handy there, so thank you for that too!

I couldn't think of any game that I wanted redone more than QFG2, as a staple of my childhood, and I had the greatest fun in playing a thief in there. The added quests you put in made me never want them to end!

Psssst.... we're over here:

;D

Thanks for your comments, nonetheless! Glad to know that the 8 years of development were put to (questionably) productive use.  It's also interesting to know that new players are still discovering the remake for the first time.

Regarding the 'bug', did you actually witness the Air Elemental yourself? For some "tell about" topics in the game, there's a knowledge flag where you need to physically see the subject of conversation with your own eyes before it will appear as a "Tell About" topic on the Hero's Point and Click menu trees. From memory, I believe that the Air Elemental is one such topic.

Sentinel

heh, oops? XD Response posted on the new forum then.

I will reply in a new topic if need be, and will also be responding on the AGD forums.

I cannot laud the efforts of AGD enough; thank you so much. I expect to encounter many problems in the future playing of this game. I anticipate solving most of them myself.

I want to also add a personal note that few others can share. Growing up, I was once a childhood friend of Al Lowe's son (of Leisure Suit Larry). Being a child I had no money, and cheat manuals/walk-through guides required purchase from the bookstore (don't you remember - that's where we bought software!) I remember harassing poor Al regarding nuances of King's Quest IV which he helped to work on. I now am embarrassed of my laziness.

In this age of the internet most answers are readily answered through cordial (and mutual) dialogue. The need to harass developers is in extremely poor taste. The amount of effort that went into this pet project is truly extraordinary.

Back in the day I had character importation problems with QFGII and ended up playing through from scratch starting with that game. It was a good game, but I was sad about my 'weak' character. I am revitalized to try again, and this time, in VGA graphics.

Thank you Erpy, I owe you a case of scotch.
