You're right with the rusty object (cane) and the indentation. But you need to really look at the indentation first, then act..

I am stuck as to what to do in the room with the indention in the ground. (there are boxes and clothing on the rack. I tried the rusty object and the chair leg but nothing...

That's quite a rouphly made part of the game in my opinion,
Spoiler
in the servant's room (a rom to the left on 2nd floor) you would find some papers, which describe a cane (rod) that unlocks secret door. If you already took and read those papers from your inventory, you may then click somewhere at the boxes (not sure where exactly) and Nathan will find a cane. It serves as a key to be put into the hole to open the passage.

EDIT: Oops, didn't notice Leon already answered, sorry.

Hello, I'm stuck. Please help if you can.

Of course we can help. That's what this board is for ;-)

I'm not sure what you're trying to do though or where you are in the game. Can you tell me a bit more what's in your inventory and what you did/see the last few scenes?

Spoiler
Did you visit the secret passage already and you've managed to get out?
Did you make your plan in the kitchen?

That's often enough to get you going. And it's a start, the rest will follow automatically. Just play a lot of adventure games and you'll pick up the language pretty quick.  ;)

Right, when in the kitchen...
Spoiler
... there's a board on the floor (on the left side). Take it. On the worktop you can find a knife to use as a 'pen' to write on the board.

That should help you further.

Tell it to my mother. She thinks I'm just wasting my time playing adventure games.  ;)

Regarding this game and another I played recently, I couldn't read a lot of the dialogue in different colors. White I could read but others were a big issue. I was playing in a small window but I suspect that isn't the problem. I've played many AGS games before and don't remember having this problem. Anyone experience this or know what may be going on? Thanks.

Leon

Do you play with a LCD screen? Often it can be the angle of the screen that changes the visibility of the dialogues. I can't remember having a problem with this...

I've got a CRT using 32 bit. The graphics are crisp and I can read white font no problem. Maybe I need to play in a full window which I'll try.

I remember a few people expressing concern about the color of the font, which I now regret not listening to.  What colors in particular are hard to read? I'm guessing Jacques'?

Had trouble with all colors but white and not just your game. I think it may be a combination of color and font type. It's as though some of the font/color overlay melds with the graphics so parts are illegible. Finished the game though and it was well done.
