I come out of the hotel, see the monks, visit the puppet theater and can combine pen and knife, but then Ketmaier says he needs something to join the two objects together. What does he need?

The puppet theater is at your right as you leave the hotel but, as usual in the Devil's Shroud games, you would be able to enter the theater only when the time is right. The same will happen with the keys, which can be picked up only when you "realize" that you need them

read the notebook, it gives some clues about the next tasks. For the theatre: From the hotel entrance go to the lower left and left one screen, read the poster. You can't get into the the theatre until late in the night (morning). When you have been there, you can get the keys. For now, consult the internet ("oogle" in the game) about Prague and the monastery. Find the barman and talk to him. Again, the tasks have to be completed in order before you can activate certain hotspots

I have talked to the barman and have gotten to the monastery where I put the dog to sleep. How do I get into the chest to get the sheet I need to climb the tree? Still can't get into the theatre or get the keys???

I thought I might be looking for keys on the desk so I can open the chest but all there is is a lamp. If you are talking about the knife that was there, I already have that but I cannot use it on the chest.

again, you have to wait for the right moment until you can use some items. After you have put the dog to sleep, use the knife on the lock. The sheet is not enough, though. Open the wardrobe and take a hanger.

this symbol on the door that you also find in the book? When you click at the small "arms", they make a turn and move the dots  by a certain angle. Arrange them so the symbol looks like the one in the book. It is not too difficult.

You have to take three books from three sections, one on the left wall, one from the wall in the background, where you have to move a ladder to reach the section, and is the shelf in the foreground. When you click on the right section, the game will ask for the book number (the ones on the note). Read the titles of the three books, the books contents are not important. The first letter of each word in the title form a new word. Write them down, and remember that there is a globe in the library...

I suppose, you both saw the sacrifice and got into the library? From the death monk, you get the third shroud and from his pockets a note. The note is the pointer to three books in the library: section and number. Read the big book in the library that is on the counter (you can't take it). Section D is easy to find, J is at the back, but you have to move a ladder first and climb it. The hand icon and "exit" works with this section. The T section is just in front, the lower left shelf. Read the book titles. More hints?

Globe puzzle

The first letter of each word in the title form the name of a city. The cities are, in this order:

  ROME, YOTO, LIMA

Use the hand icon to turn the globe and the pen to activate the buttons. Use the correct order. Yoto, btw, is the left dot on the image of Japan on the globe. The globe opens and you get the book that the monks used during the ceremony. But they ripped out important pages. Also, the authors name is not readable. Otherwise we could ask him or her about the book. But the title should be enough for google to give some information on the author :-)

I never saw any sacrifice or a deak monk. I still haven't figured out how to get into the theatre because when try its locked. I know the keys to open it are probably under the grate and I see them but when I try to get them he says there is no reason. I can't pick up owl, broom or pot, but I have been by to talk to the barkeep about everything. I'm stuck!
