Just started using AGS three or four days ago...I wanna know what veterans think of my stuff.

This is my first game ever, and I've never done computer art or animation before...here's a background and a character, I'm pretty proud of them ^,^

I know the horizon line needs to be cleaned up a bit...

Eight frames - Took me an entire day to make this :D

You should be real proud of your walk animation you've got there.  Very well done.
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

Eh, could be better =P

I'm going to shade it and try to add some movement to the head

Gilbert

Heh that character reminds me of Inherit the Earth (no I never played that game). Really nice though. :D The only thing that bothers me is that the bg lacks perspective, unless it's the style you used to.

Kaninus

I love Inherit the Earth ^,^  I wasn't trying to copy it or anything though...I just really like foxes =P

I'm not used to any BG style, because that's my first one...I don't really know how to give that perspective

dagooh

I think it's cool, but first of all I would get rid of the horizon line, you have splotches from the filters that you used in the sky ans grass, and i would do then on different layers and then compose them, so you don't get pieces from one on to another.
and for the perspective if your going for a child's fantasy book I think it's ok this way, but off course it would look better with some nice perspective.
really cool work man.

As I stated before, yes, the horizon needs cleaning =P  But how would I add perspective?  By drawing hills and stuff in the background?

By the way, thanks for all the comments, everybody  :)

MrColossal

i enjoy the walk cycle indeed

i like his feet they move really well

his arms lock in position for 2 frames and i think that is the first thing you should fix

other then that rock on

Hey, foxies rule! :D

Anyway, that's a really nice animation. You might redo his ears though, since they look little strange. But, I know how hard it's do draw pointy ears when using just couple of pixels. ;) I might've drawn him little sharper muzzle as well, but that's just my opinion.

As for the backround... Yes, adding hills and stuff would give it more depth. That tree looks little flat as well.

But still, nice work all in all. I'm certainly waiting for this game. ^^

Colossal, you were right, so I fixed that ^,^  And did some shading..

Lucky, I think his ears and muzzle look wrong too, but they seem to look worse if I try to change them in any way ;P  And yes, foxies rule.

Now I'm just thinking, "What's up with that dancing line in his pants?"

ravenfusion

^ Now the arm looks stiff O.o

Kaninus

 :( Where?  I don't see stiffness

Minimi

ravenfusion means that the elbows do not bow in the animation. But I probably can't do any better, so really nice job!

ravenfusion

yeah, the second one is smoother but in the first one, the elbow doesn't appear to click back like in the second.

MrColossal

ahhhh that's what was bugging me, the first frame is his standing frame and that has to go, so i took it out:

then i futzed with his arm a little cause it seems to get fatter and it looks like it grows a bit when it's swinging back. it stretches down. also the gloves he's wearing change in one frame from stopping at his elbow to going over his elbow, so i changed that, it also looks like you redrew the handle of the sword each time so i just copied and pasted it over itself on each frame:

then i just tried something with the ears:

Yey Mr. Eric has done it again. :P

Kaninus

I redrew the sword handle each time because the sword is bouncing...at least that's what I intended it to be doing ;P  The standing frame was my mistake, I just wasn't paying attention.  And I think maybe the growing on the arm that you saw was just my attempt at a shadow...and he's not wearing gloves, he has black paws =P  And I'm definitely going to be doing something with the head sometime

Quite honestly, I really don't appreciate you editting it without asking me...and if it says somewhere that people can edit stuff in this forum without asking, I musta missed it

well, i guess i shouldn't assume then

i apologize

i guess from now on people should mention if they wouldn't mind an edit or if they would rather people just commented textually

BUT the reason i edit people's art is because sometimes there are things that are very hard to explain through text

i don't see what the problem is but it's personal and i respect that

oh bouncing sword handle: in a higher res you may be able to get away with changing the image from frame to frame but i think at this size it just ends up looking liquid and blobby.

if you're working in low colour you may want to find a way to get your colour count down, but if it's hicolour no worries

blah and again another edit: on the new walkcycle you posted there is an opaque white line on his face and on the background. i assume it's from another layer when you compiled it to a gif

i'd also go back in and redo the tail, it hops and skips about. personally i'd delete all but one start over and try and get a good swooping cycle going

Andail

Kaninus, it's more or less a tradition that whenever somebody publishes a picture, people do what they can to improve it and show the results.
That's one of the most important functions this forum has; people can train on other people's art, and everyone get to see the process and the outcome. If you're not pleased with the outcome, just don't use it.

It's not like Eric is gonna steal the sprites for you, nor is your original walk cycle lost.

Esseb

That's on this forum though Andail. On most other art forums I've visited the rule is not to paint over a piece unless you get permission.
