Hello all,

I'm a 16 year old student in secondary school in the Republic of Ireland, and this year I am doing an Enterprise project- I've decided to make a game (using AGS of course). I really need some help on the character design front. I'm wondering would anybody be interested in helping out? The finished game is going to be entered into a national enterpise competition, and actually produced, copied and sold in my town. Even if you donate one character, you'll be credited for it in the game, and be given a copy of the game (we're aiming for the xmas market). If you could send me any character you may have which I could use, I'd be delighted. My address is mcullin@online.ie

Thanks

I can help. What are you looking for? Like a comedic cartoon, a serious life like? I can always draw concept and sprites and such. Do you want low color or high color? Try to expain waht you are looking for.

...Do you want a pencil sketch or a photoshop version? Do you want us to animate it, or just design? Which must be their mesures? Is the game aimed to teens, children?

Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

I can help, too. We will be able to help you, if you give us information about characters.

Thanks for the response, everyone. Basically, I need a male lead character. He's a space-explorer type, so a see-through helmet might be a good idea; i'll give you some artistic license after that, though. Definetly high-colour, with animations too. It can be a cartoon style or realistic; though I'd prefer realistic. I'm not all that fussy, to be honest. I'm making a school-based level using digital camera shots of my school, and I need a couple of characters to fill that; a caretaker would be great. I suppose a bent-over cranky-looking man could do fine. If a few of you post some .cha files up here, I could pick a few that are right for the job. And If II use it, I'll definetly give you a copy of the game and a mention in the credits.
Also, I need a couple of business-type people in suits.
Thanks a lot. Oh yeah, the game is 800x600 resolution.

I can draw all of the animations and such for my character though I'm no good at coloring in high color. Anybody want to help me out here? Also how big do you want for character sizes may vary from backgrounds, which aparently you are doing yourself.

hi Mark

Have i missed the point.....

Are`nt you supposed to be making this game for your school project........not the rest of the forum members.

Why don`t you get someone to do the backgrounds and the music aswell why your asking....(sarcasm).

Sorry if i come across uncaring but if you are puting this forward as your school project.....you should at least put the effort in.

I think you should do your own character design no matter what the results.......then if you win the prize it would have been done on your own merits.....not someone elses.

I`m sure lots of people would help including myself if you was just making a game and wanted a few people in on the project.

Its like sitting an exam (something i have`nt done for a long time)....and getting the answers off of someone next to you.
You may pass.....but the other person deserves the credit.

I`m starting to sound like someones dad.....

Good luck any how.

i'm kinda thinking that if he hadn't mentioned that this game will be produced and sold everyone would tell him to release a game first or show some of his own art before asking for help, every other newbie that asks for somebody to their art for them in their first post usually gets flamed and the post deleted, why should this be any different?
this isn't a personal attack, it's a personal opinion, i sure wish i could have asked other people to do parts of my schoolwork for me...

BOYD: I've noticed it's utterly random whether a newb asking for help will be met with "Let me do it! Please!" or "STFU n00b do it yourself or show something!"  No harm in asking, I suppose, although the wildly varying reactions do puzzle me.

no, the answer depends on who the person replying is.

See, Other newby: Sure! I'll help you's!!!!111! (They will hopefully drop off the earth within a week)

And A veteran (most likely helm): STFU N00B!1!!11

See. It's easy.

I know, but there's no way to predict which of those categories of people will respond.  Usually, the thread is dominated by one or the other.  In this case there have been none of the inflammatory vet posts.

You haven't planned your request well, don't you?
People happen to have different drawing styles aswell drawing SKILLS. Putting many different characters into one game - made in different style -- will surely make a big mess. You'll get alot better help if you:

a) draw characters by yourself, just ask for help to animate them -- or:

b) ask for characters but redraw them with your own hand and style - and then maybe ask for animations on them

But otherwise - It'll be an interesting experiment, but not a selling game, I think -- just imagine Gabriel Knight mixed with Day Of Tentacle -- or Leisure Suit Larry with Indiana Jones.... But then again - who knows?

P.S. Can't Draw? Lower the resolution! Can draw? Still lower the resolution! Wanna sell game? DEFINETLY lower the resolution!!!
