Spin-offs of horror games

Is it a bad idea to make a spin-off of an existing horror game? I have some ideas of my own but I'm just being curious. I've taken a liking to the Silent Hill series.

Well, there have been plenty of AGS fan games.  What kind of gameplay would you use?

Well, it would be 3rd person adventure. There would be battles with monsters which I guess would be turn-based. You would be able to travel all over the town to different areas and solve puzzles and such. All the Silent Hill games have different plots and this one would too. I just figured I would give it a shot.

since i am a big fan of all 3 silent hill games, i would love to see a 2-d adventure made of silent hill. If you do, make sure it has plenty of weird monsters that freak out people. Don't forget pyramid head.

Destroyer, Best of luck. I'd love see a silent hill adventure game. BTW i posted as shawnk right after your post, and didn't realize it would be a 3rd person adventure. So never mind the 2-d adventure stuff in my post.

Sounds cool, sort of like the Quest For Glory concept.

Well, it won't be 3d. I don't have the right tools to make it that way.    But I'm only saying it would be 3rd person as opposed to first person shooters or anything like that.

Some of the plots I have thought of don't seem very good. One is that Adam's(main char.) family has been cursed because Adams father secretly was a serial murderer in Silent Hill. He seemed to hate everyone but his family. Yet, no one ever thought that Adam's father was the one who commited all these murders. After awhile, Adam's father disappeared and was never found. After this, both Adam and Mike began to grow strange, talking about seeing creepy things and hearing voices and talking crazy, so their mother got them out of town. They moved to a new city and everything turned out fine. The two grew up and got married. Then things began to get crazy once again. Their mother vanished. And after a time, so did their spouses. Despite the past, both brothers decide to go back to Silent Hill. They are growing strange feelings that their family is there...

I know, I didn't mean that either  The Quest for Glory series is all 2d, except for QFGV, which sort of came after the bulk of the series anyway.

although, im not sure i get the whole 3rd person thing right. ive never seen it done before in a 2d game (yeah, shame on me, i know...)

I'm not sure I know what you mean here...  Every AGS game I've seen is 2d 3rd person.

i think fizz is equating 3rd person with a chasecam not just viewing the character from an "out of body" view

3rd person just means you are looking at the character.  1st person means you are looking from the character's point of view.  2nd person isn't really a viable way to make computer games.

So almost all adventure games are 3rd person, since you control the character from an external perspective.  There are some 1st person ones though, such as Myst and similar games.

Just to clear it up, by 3rd person I meant it in the external way. Not a chasecam way. I don't even think AGS is up for chasecams. :o
