Since I readed an interview about AGS in my favourite Video Games Magazine, I become fascinated with it, and I thought my dream of creating my own games will become reallity. I studied the tutorials, the manual, and I started writing my story, for my adventure game. Now the story is ready I want to create my game but I can't draw a good room. I tried to draw it first in a paper, and then put it in the scanner and with a painting program correct it, BUT IT DOESN'T WORK. The image doesn't become as I want. I want to ask you to tell me the way you draw your rooms. (sorry if the english isn't well written because i'm Portuguese and I don't dominate this language very well)

This isn't really a technical question, so the moderators will move it at some point... but:

As far as I know, some people draw their rooms like you tried, first on paper, then scanning, and then tracing them in Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop or similiar. Some, like me, draw them all the way with computer. Even with MsPaint you can make good backgrounds, as I did for first and second game. The third's bgs are drawn with photshop, but with nearly same quality. It's just that you need ot practice a bit. Your talent doesn't seem to have shown itself yet. Just try things, out, stat by following some bg tutorials through, a few times if needed.
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

I have already tried with Paint sho Pro and Paint, but I tought It wasn't a really good way. I'll continue searching. Thank you

Heh.. Well, it's not easy to draw backgrounds. You just need to keep practicing until you develop a style that you're happy with.. You might want to try posting your art at the Critic's Lounge so we can give you suggestions.

It's not the tools you use, it's the way that you use them. I've seen games made with Paint that were awesome and I've seen games made with 3D Max that weren't worth shit.

Buy a sketchbook and draw. And draw again. And again. And again. Try to get a feeling for what you draw, try to BE what you draw.

After practising for a long time (and the great artists took years and years before they were considered great) maybe you find out that art isn't your forte. Well, too bad. There are several options left at this point. Trains, bridges, high buildings, you get the point.

But... (there's always a but :)) Good games don't depend on great graphics only. There are scores of really great games out there that have crappy graphics.

Maybe you are great at coming up with ideas or plotting or scripting or...

Okay, this post is way too long already, so all I will say is that if you want to improve your art you have to practice. Look at art that you wished you had made and try to copy it, just to get to know how it was done.

And don't be ashamed to post your work in the Critics forum, the people there will tell you how to improve it.

Phew...
