Much to my surprise, I finished a project! I hesitate to call it a game, because it's extremely short; and I'm not entirely sure I'll ever finish it entirely, so it isn't exactly a demo. In a finished game, it would act more as an intro, as it's intended to get exposition out of the way, introduce the main character, and let the player get used to the general setup.

There's zero actual puzzle solving, except finding a key, which doesn't require any serious effort [in the demo, anyway]. The full game would require problem-solving and character interaction, rather than puzzles.

The setup: 12 year old Norah is alone in her dormitory. She's been almost completely on her own for a few days now, and frankly, she's bored-- to the point of doing extra chores, just to occupy her time. Unfortunately, in the process, she's lost the key to the trunk containing her most valued possessions.

This is the overall look of the game. It's very, very basic, obviously, because I'm still learning; but it's functional. There's no music or sound yet.

I'd greatly appreciate comments or critiques on anything from the artwork, to the text, to the game function itself. Thanks for your time.

ETA: One Day is set to run at 640 x 400.

Wow, that looks really good.

Ps. You can put the demo in the "Ags games in production", i noticed you made a thread, but moved it to crit's lounge.

i for one would love to see this continued. you've got characters with actual backgrounds and, possibly, personalities. you've got an intriguing and unexpected "world" and cute graphics that i expect would jar with the rest of the storyline if it was continued. i may have to track down the story this is based on.

the main character could probably use a nose, and in the side walk cycles, the shading seems to change, it's rather odd. the absence of a talk icon would be strange to maintain, and i'm guessing you wouldn't if you continued the game. keep up the good work, even if it's not on this particular game.

Nice. Love the style.
You forgot to mention it should be run in 640 x 400 resolution.

I wasn't sure if it'd quite fit there yet, since I was wanting some commentary. I'll re-post when I'm a little more organised, to add a general plot outline, character designs, screenshots, etc.

"Gunslinger Girl" is deeply, profoundly weird. The manga is only out in the first volume [www.adv-manga.com], but I'm told that the first season anime is currently running in Japan.

I dumped the talk icon because without anyone to talk to, I felt that it was basically visual litter; but the full projected game *will* have other chars.

The shifting shading was supposed to help with the illusion of movement, but I'm afraid I'm still learning how that kind of thing works.  I can't seem to get a nose that looks quite right, but that's likely a matter of tinkering; then again, maybe I'll leave it as it stands. We'll see.

Evilspacefart:

I'll make sure to edit the initial post to add that.

Thanks to everyone's who's downloaded and commented. It's appreciated.
