There are 4.02 million in Ireland and over 100 million worldwide who claim Irish decent. That 4.02 is still lower than the Irish population before the Potato Famine and the beginning of a true exodus and diaspora.

That 100 million includes roughly 30% of the Australian population, or 6 million. And think of Canada, New Zealand, the US and even Argentina, all of whom recieved Irish immigrants.

They must have got really sick of hearing about Double Fine.

The larger maps shows some interesting things as well. It's like there's a string of globes accross Russia. I can only assume they're towns that have built up over the past century as a result of the trans siberian railway.
I also like the way the Nile is a bright Salamander for half it's Egyptian length.
I like the way the Canadian fireflies are clustered against the US border, and away from the cold wastes to their north.
I like the gems of Singapore and Honk Kong.
I like the way The most densely packed country [Bangladesh] is relatively dark, but the second most dense [The Netherlands] is amongst the brightest.

It's amazing how much light there is in India, I know the population is huge, but I didn't expect the whole country to be covered.

heh yeah, and probably that white dot west and a bit south of it was where I'm living.

As for millions and billions - the metric (i.e not american) way of expressing it is more scientifically correct.

A million = six zeroes
A billion = bi being latin for twice or double, results in 2x6 = 12 zeroes
A trillion = 18 zeroes
etc

The metric word for 9 zeroes is milliard, for the record.

It's interesting how dim the West Coast of the US is in comprasion to the East Cosat. Also, notice how the path of light through Russia narrows as it goes from the West to the East. I can't quite think of a reason though. And, I can see the little Big Tel-Aviv metropolis - it's that star in the middle of the Israel.

Here's a still bigger version of the map. I can even spot my own city on this one.

As for the Russia thing - isn't it just because there are so many more people in the Western part of the country?

SSH

Another statistic: if all the blonde girls in the world were laid one beside another, no-one would be at all surprised...  ;)

Also, Barcik, the west coast of the USA is famous for being dimmer than the east...

Anyone has noticed the difference of lighting between the North and the South Korea?

[sarcasm]After that people will go on saying that communism works![/sarcasm]

QuoteOther noticible things. South Korea is a very bright rectangle of light. North Korea is the opposite in equal magnitude.

Yep, and you've just confirmed that most of what's written on the forums isn't read.

It is, but look at that 'tentacle'. Why is it more dim to the North and South of it? It's as if there was some center river going through all of that, but I know of no such thing.

Isn't the Gaza Strip the most dense?
